To be chuffed to be promoted in a job I have worked so hard for

I have recently started a thread asking why so few women are chefs. It is a hard job that requires dedication and long hours. When my dcs were small I had to step back and almost start again as I couldn't do split shifts so took on the more menial tasks.
Obviously I missed many Xmas gatherings mothers days weekends etc which I didn't mind.Having gone fulltime a few years ago I was promoted them 18 months ago learnt ordering organising and managing others which has been a challenge.
Yesterday I was told my job title will officially change money not yet as we have pay freezes obviously. The company are fair though.
I almost cried as the only one of very few women in the company which is a large one .I will be the junior sous chef.My dm and dsis didn't respond. My dcs are pleased for me as they know my sacrifices.
AIBU to be chuffed to bits.😁

Achieving your goals is definitely worth some pride.

refusetobeasheep · 15/10/2020 14:59

That's fantastic!!! Well done, looks like all your hard work has paid off! You should be very proud of yourself! Just one thing though - get a date when the pay rise WILL come, and also ask if in the meantime you could get some additional days leave to make up for the fact you are stepping up without extra remuneration. As believe me, a man would push back on this.

Well done op! Just goes to show it’s never too late. It’s a shame your dm and dsis are a little green eyed. Some people like to see others fail so they can feel better about themselves..

monkeyonthetable · 15/10/2020 15:25

Well done. Keep in mind that you need (and obviously have) the same skillset and responsibilities as the Sous Chef so if a job as one comes up for money in a similar restaurant after about 6 months - go for it.

cheekaa · 15/10/2020 15:51

Congratulations well done!! Celebrate 🎉🍾🥂🍹🍸

Well done, fab news. Hard work does pay off sometimes.

LadyCatStark · 15/10/2020 17:07

That’s awesome well done! DH’s parents were uninterested in his much worked for promotion a few years ago just like yours. I think sometimes retired people forget what it’s like to work!

EL8888 · 15/10/2020 17:57

@LadyCatStark yeah it’s weird how people forget the world of work once they retire

My mum is very like that. It genuinely confuses her why lm busy. Err it’s a pandemic, l work in healthcare and do about 50 hours a week

whatisforteamum · 15/10/2020 19:29

My dm stopped working at 23.No idea how my 55 hour weeks would feel and no idea what it is like to be on a budget really.
