Lunch booking for group of 6 friends in London booked for Saturday. Obviously, can't go ahead now as the restaurant likely to be funny about 6 adults traipsing in. However the organiser has already announced to everyone that she'll just host at hers instead.

This attempt at lockdown just isn't going to work is it?

"None of the stats are accurate and the death rate figures are manipulated."

ONS figures are accurate, the government headline figures are manipulated downwards.

The whole country does not have high virus levels, it can be controlled. Everyone who spreads the virus damages jobs, health care, education because the country can not return to normal with the virus running wild.

We dont lockdown to stop people dying but to allow those who need treatment for other conditions to have some chance of getting it, to make it safe for people to go out spending money and therefore keep people in work, to allow the young to have an education without risking their parents becoming long term disabled or dead.

I live in London, and had planned to visit sister in Hertfordshire for dinner on Friday, stay over and come back yesterday. I went ahead.

I figured it was marginal, and I live alone so theoretically she could be my support bubble. I won't do any more mixing while we're in tier 2 though.

@SoloMummy

As for those spouting the ignorant crap about death rates, get informed.

*Coronavirus vs. Flu Deaths
COVID-19
There have been approximately 1,099,380 deaths reported worldwide. So that's in 10 months.

Flu: The World Health Organization estimates that in 12 months 290,000 to 650,000 people die of flu-related causes every year worldwide.

Covid IS killing more people and we still have flu to contend with. Get informed.

Hello old friend ... Nice to see your dogmatic opinion still very much precedes you from BC to MN ( nothing has change there much) .

@Runningjump

Honestly if people are sensible, keep their distance, wash their hands, don't touch their face etc we would be a lot better off. I think if you use that approach, together with common sense, it doesn't really matter whether you break the rules.

People should also take reponsibilitt for their own health. I cannot believe there's a contagious disease going around killing the overweight and obese and yet so many have done nothing about their weight. Those people are just as responsible for us all having to endure these restrictions.

Quite!

I agree.
What's happening is a small victim group is being protected by our leaders and in doing so, many, many more victim groups have been created and are growing in size and type. And our leaders must know this. What about those awaiting palliative care / operations etc (some missed the window and died); those who've lost jobs; and as a result their homes; the many elderly who were neglected and not allowed to see families; those who are depressed; scared; alone; have committed suicide due to what this situation has done to them.
Also, published figures mean very little to me without information on who died/their age/lifestyle/co-morbidities etc.
And let's not forget there are also other things currently happening in the world.
Remember Julian Assange, just for one example? He had a very important trial at the Old Bailey recently and it'll be decided on 4th Jan whether he will be extradited to the USA (uh-oh) or not. It doesn't matter what our opinion is if him, my point is...was there any coverage of this? Not that I saw. The media doesn't seem to want to cover much else. Why? What's the agenda?
I think we need to start asking questions of our leaders... MPs, councillors, governments. And be asking questions about the news reporting.
As with the flu (yes I know Covid is supposed to be far more serious) we can't really 'hide' til a vaccine arrives. And dont viruses mutate anyway? And Trump isn't the only person saying there are cheap drugs out there that supposedly cure Covid so actually we don't need a vaccine..but who knows...worth researching though, no?

We need to get back to normal. To try and keep healthy, excersise, eat well and protect our own as we would normally if the government would stop interfering and nannying! Some of these rules don't actually make sense, for goodness sake!
And we need to stop judging each other and be kind. It is possible to debate in a courteous manner.
Ok, said my bit.
Sorry to warble, all. Just another opinion in the echo chamber...
Peace to all x

I don't think lockdown will work. People are sick of following the rules, getting their lives back only to have restrictions placed on them weeks later.
Families won't be able to meet for Christmas anyway (unless they bite, the bullet and reduce restrictions for a week at Christmas) this is going to be another six month lockdown again. Let's face it they've already basically admitted lockdown is going to be longer than 4 weeks.
There will be little compliance which means the restrictions will drag on. People want their lives back (however selfish that might seem).
