Lunch booking for group of 6 friends in London booked for Saturday. Obviously, can't go ahead now as the restaurant likely to be funny about 6 adults traipsing in. However the organiser has already announced to everyone that she'll just host at hers instead.

This attempt at lockdown just isn't going to work is it?

Overall very few people under 30 complying and many over that age not.
All sick and tired of it and pissed off with being quoted the science that when questioned for the 10pm closure was a study in the USA involving 130 people and that's it....the ones needing to comply are students and virtually non are...and I'm informed on that one!

Wife2b · 15/10/2020 15:46

I’m in the vulnerable category as is my partner. But I’ve hard enough of lockdowns. My job means I have to go into peoples houses (who typically don’t follow the rules anyways), they’ll have multiple children going to multiple schools and therefore multiple bubbles. Little ones don’t socially distance, they’re there tapping my legs, playing with my ID badge, blah blah blah. I’d feel a whole lot safer meeting friends and family in a restaurant than I do going out to homes in my job every day. Just because they’re government doesn’t mean they’re right and I think a lot of people are at the point now where they want to make decisions for themselves.

@alreadytaken
Where did you read 30 - 40% have long Covid? It is 1% just like other viruses.

The death rate for the under 70’s is 0.05%. We will look back on this as a total over reaction. I would go to the lunch.

Lowkee · 15/10/2020 15:49

I'd be going to hers too. Your mental health can kill you probably as quickly and as cruelly as coronavirus.

ilovesooty · 15/10/2020 15:49

@Jaxhog

The notion of personal responsibility seems to have passed so many people by.

I've been worried about this for quite some time. The pandemic has really brought this to the fore.

Absolutely. I'm finding people's ignorance / willful misunderstanding / selfishness / refusal to comply much more depressing than the virus itself or any of the present or potential restrictions.

And of course the government failure to deal with the situation properly.

It's not 1%, it is 10% although severity and length of symptoms varies.

GabsAlot · 15/10/2020 15:53

why should i comply when last week our rate was 39 per 100k

TheOrigRights · 15/10/2020 15:58

I guess nothing stops Londoners heading out of London to go to a restaurant?

www.gov.uk states:
you can continue to travel to venues or amenities that are open, for work or to access education, but should look to reduce the number of journeys you make where possible

PracticingPerson · 15/10/2020 15:59

@GabsAlot

Because you're a good person who thinks of others? Because you want cases to stay low? Because you believe in society?
TheOrigRights · 15/10/2020 16:01

I have a question about the following from www.gov.uk

"exercise classes and organised sport can continue to take place outdoors.These will only be permitted indoors if it is possible for people to avoid mixing with people they do not live with or share a support bubble with, or for youth or disability sport"

What does "mixing" mean? I am now in a tier 2 area. Can I swim in my covid-safe pool? nb the pool is in a tier 1 area. What about classes which are also covid-safe?

Northernsoullover · 15/10/2020 16:03

@DappledOliveGroves I don't care if you die either. I care if I do though. I don't fancy being infected by someone who has such a cavalier attitude towards safety.

DevonBird9 · 15/10/2020 16:03

@DappledOliveGroves

I'd reply with, 'thank you, what can I bring?'

If my city goes into a different tier I'm not complying. There is no plan, the government couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery and the first lock down was bad enough for my mental health.

If I get Covid and die then so fucking be it. I'm sick of everyone wanting immortality. At a personal level I'm sure my family will be upset but at a macro level the world is overpopulated and I'm wholly insignificant.

With you on this! This is all getting a joke now.
user1487194234 · 15/10/2020 16:05

I honestly think a lot of people have simply had enough,inevitably

zigaziga · 15/10/2020 16:22

I’d comply if I thought it was that simple - a few weeks lockdown and the virus goes away. It’s not, the virus is out there and the only way out is herd immunity (a vaccine will likely help that but it’s not a magic wand). We can have a circuit breaker and then be in the same situation in a months time. Nothing went away in the first lockdown - you’d think it would have eradicated the common cold and flu and chicken pox etc too but guess what, autumn seems to be the same as usual..) So I guess do we want this to be life now or do we want to still see those we love and try and keep meaning to our lives..?

Devlesko · 15/10/2020 16:36

People have had enough, unless someone close them dies they aren't likely to comply now.
There's absolutely no evidence that any lock down is working, nor are gov looking at the real problem of schools because ya know it's childcare.
Plus one rule for them (gov)and us hasn't helped.

GabsAlot · 15/10/2020 16:39

not the point our county requested it knowing the numbers are low its all so dodgy-people are questioning the motives

Cantthinkofausename · 15/10/2020 16:39

I dont think the restuarant will turn you away tbf. That sector is struggling as it is

alreadytaken · 15/10/2020 16:41

Long Covid lasts longer than 60 days. The figures come from here - and actually more people still have some symptom after 60 days www.clinicalmicrobiologyandinfection.com/article/S1198-743X(20)30606-6/fulltext

Pregnant women are more likely to get long covid and the longer the virus is studied the more damage is found - like declines in male fertility in some cases.

The virus can be controlled and then restrictions can be lighter - because there are still parts of this country managing to do it. There will also be better treatments, some promising ones being trialled. Rapid testing being developed - so another way to start reopening things, you take a rapid test before attending larger events. We wont be living this way forever.

tttigress · 15/10/2020 16:42

I don't think another lockdown will be taken seriously, do better not to have one!

alreadytaken · 15/10/2020 16:42

Or you could be like this man people.com/health/man-called-covid-hoax-feels-guilty-14-family-members-test-positive-2-die/

Youandmeareluckytobeus · 15/10/2020 16:44

I guess nothing stops Londoners heading out of London to go to a restaurant?
If I was a restaurant owner and 6 people came in, I would want to ensure we were complying so would at least asking they are from the same household. I'd prefer hospitality to be able to request proof of address.

Hatscats · 15/10/2020 16:48

Seriously, numbers were low before uni and school went back. Protests, packed beaches, all fine. Think it’s obvious where the issues are.
99.9% chance of survival and 2 in 1000 people infected in my area. Prefer to catch covid than flu.

BlackLetterDay · 15/10/2020 16:48
RationalOne · 15/10/2020 16:49

Ah... that's why London is rising and moving to Tier 2..... inhabited by people like your friend

Oh dear

wanderings · 15/10/2020 16:50

@Devlesko Indeed. What would Dominic Cummings do?

And yes, we ARE still harping on about that, and deservedly so, after Saint Boris vindicated him, and told us to "move on", like abusive husbands do.

Ditto:
Margaret Ferrier MP (no further action)
Danny Kruger MP (no mask)
Stanley Johnson (no mask)
