Anyone else do weird stuff they wouldn't admit to in real life?

Go easy on me, I know MN can be a hostile time at the minute,,,,
I am currently obsessed with The Handmaids Tale, cant stop watching the series on Prime, and I was lying in the bath having a soak and I started to mimic the lead characters facial movements, and then I though since I have been watching it, I pretend I'm in it, pretending that I am also an oppressed woman and answer to men only etc, is this weird?

I do this with other things like books or other series, it doesn't affect my life, in a crazy way but more like a day dream sort of way and when the kids ask for a snack, i snap out of it. Am I the only weirdo around here, or do have weird things you do that you would never admit to in real life or do I need some professional help :)

I’m a bit obsessed with post apocalyptic stuff. I spend hours imagining how I would live if I was the only person left on Earth.

What would I take from certain shops, how would I get about. Would I go into empty houses and nose around?

Hellothere19999 · 15/10/2020 16:17

Hahahaha this is ace. I definitely do concerts and somewhat pretend I am famous/ get “interviewed” 😂
For some reason, I really don’t know why but I sort of plan out my speeches for people’s funerals. I don’t know why I assume I will be asked to do a speech 🤔😂

insideoutsider · 15/10/2020 16:19

When I'm crossing a big road at lights and there are cars waiting, I strut with long strides, pretending I'm Beyonce with 'Deja vu' playing in my head.

Dyra · 15/10/2020 16:21

I'm so glad you're all out there, and not just me. Grin Counting, disaster planning, dream home, winning the lottery, own funeral imagining. Done them all. I o

Nonamesavail · 15/10/2020 16:24

I do lots of the things mentioned. Glad it's not just me.

AuntMasha · 15/10/2020 16:27

@MrsJackRackham

I have conversations with time travellers from the past, often Anne Boleyn, where I explain how the modern world works. We go to the pub and the cinema etc. She right likes me.
Haha! I do this too. When I was study 5th century Athens, I’d have quite involved conversations with Socrates!

(This thread is so reassuring - I thought I was just one big weirdo, but I am not alone!)

AriesTheRam · 15/10/2020 16:30

When it's thundering i like to pretend that its the sound of a Tyrannosaurus Rex walking (like the scene in Jurasssic Park) and its face could appear at the window any minute.Ive tried to get ds 6 to do it too but he won't play Blush

Wishingforanotherlife · 15/10/2020 16:34

This is the best thing I’ve read in ages and I’m snorting behind my mask in a room full of folk who keep glancing every time I giggle.

I’m weird to and delighted there are so many of us. I do disaster planning, mirror arguments, animal stairs. Sometimes things spill over into the outside world. E.g. folk will see me in car doing a mirror argument or when I get engrossed in a book or work I would then speak in a way that reflected what I was reading. When I read Lord of the Rings by the end of it I was totally method acting every part in day to day convos

TheDaydreamBelievers · 15/10/2020 16:36

I act / speak out loud conversations I will never have. Especially confrontations/arguments.

When I listen to music I sometimes pretend I am the music video for it. When I watch talk/chat shows like Jimmy Fallon or Graham Norton I sometimes pretend I am famous and daydream about me giving a witty anecdote or answer.

As a teen I used to lie flat on my back on my floor and drip water from a sports water bottle into my mouth and pretend i was in hospital on a drip. Found it quite relaxing for some reason.

PeskyRooks · 15/10/2020 16:37

I do loads of these things!!
Disaster planning yes
Apocalypse planning
Every time I hear music with a trumpet in it it's me playing it in my head (I can't play the trumpet )
Often make myself laugh out loud saying funny things in my head, then have to pretend it's something on tv making me laugh.
Explain facts to people in my head.
One thing not mentioned, if I hear a word I like I write it in loopy writing with my finger, on the arm of the chair, or on my leg out of sight! Weird.
Always assumed I am a bit mental!

Fluffybutter · 15/10/2020 16:39

Sometimes I lay in the bath while the water drains out ,shivering and imagining I’ve been washed up in a storm.
Fuck me ,I’m weird 😬
This thread is great !

nevermorelenore · 15/10/2020 16:46

@LagneyandCasey

When I'm alone in the house I watch those crappy Hallmark type movies, particularly the Christmas ones.

They're all the same really. Woman with perfectly curled hair and unsuitable winter coat returns to hometown after 10 years making it big in the city to care for elderly family member. Bumps into high school sweetheart who broke her heart. Falls in love again. Big misunderstanding ensues. Woman goes back to the city. Bf follows her to explain misunderstanding and declare love. Happy ending.

I'd be mortified if anyone found out I watch this stuff. It's sheer easy escapism in a 90 minute package!

There was a thread in the Christmas forum about those movies! Don't feel ashamed. A lot of us watch that crap.
CycleWoman · 15/10/2020 16:46

I pretend I’m doing my driving test when driving. I’ve honestly no idea why.

The80sweregreat · 15/10/2020 16:48

I Also have imaginary conversations with people I don't like and I tell them how I really feel about them .. ( I'm a coward and would never do this and too much of a people pleaser to hurt anyone's feelings)
My sil would never speak to me again if she heard this 'imaginary speech' but I feel it's mutual and I'd have to hear stuff I wouldn't like too!
All Best left unsaid!

The80sweregreat · 15/10/2020 16:50

Those Christmas channel five films are so cheesy but also oddly watchable as they are so predictable! Considering the possible bad Christmas coming up with covid and restrictions any feel good things to watch is a good thing in my book. I bet they put loads of good films on tv to cheer us up this year

Fluffybutter · 15/10/2020 16:51

Yep, I also do that . I also do animal stairs but mostly as a big spider and sometimes when I’m out walking I pretend I’m in a film being followed ..
sapnupuas · 15/10/2020 16:54

@Imissmoominmama

I make escape plans in my head. I used to do it when I worked in school; I’d work out where to take my class if someone came into school to try to harm them.

I do it on walks too; I imagine a big cat stalking me and how I’d deal with it.

I plan disaster strategies all the time.

I’m really weird (but surprisingly cheerful considering all the terrible things I’m imagining).

I escape plan, too.

Especially after something has recently happened. Such as going to the cinema not long after that shooting in America. I had images of me diving under seats and all sorts.

The80sweregreat · 15/10/2020 16:55

I'm often wonder what others are thinking when they talk to me and try to predict their next words. It's a bit distracting.
I often think that I think differently to other people anyway, if that makes any sense.

TooGood2BeFalse · 15/10/2020 17:00

If I can't sleep, I imagine myself as a young beautiful Tudor princess married to Hemry Caville (As Sussex, obvs). It's an elaborate plot, I have a lot of children but am still beautiful,Henry wants me but I love my husband, there's a kidnapping event, I have witty comebacks...

It's a whole big (sad) thing Grin but my wardrobe is incredible

AuntMasha · 15/10/2020 17:04

Did anyone here have a childhood imaginary friend? Mine was a talking unicorn who had wings and I would get on his back and we would fly around the world. Sometimes we would fly to parts of the world where there was poverty and famine and we would drop food parcels and money to the people there. We would also have long conversations about the meaning of life.

kateluvscats · 15/10/2020 17:04

@SpunBodgeSquarepants

Sometimes I'll be doing something like loading the washing machine and I'll freeze for a few seconds and imagine I'm a wax model in a tableau in a museum in like 50 years time - 'Modern life in the year 2020'.
I'm crying with laughter , this is so funny, you've made my day.
PenguinsOnParade · 15/10/2020 17:05

I just remembered another. If I'm walking somewhere alone I imagine what I would do if someone tried to steal my phone from me (usually in my hand from playing Pokemon Go) and the amazing kung-fu type moves I would use to stop them. I've not had a single martial arts lesson in my life and have a dodgy hip so the reality would be very different. Blush

Mine was April O'Neill from Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles. Ageing myself terribly here. Grin
Hotwaterbottlelove · 15/10/2020 17:07

Most of the time I imagine in on a documentary where two psychologist are watching and commenting on my and my husband's relationship. There are other 'contestants' too. The point of the show is to analyse who has the best marriage. Bass on things like, equality, empathy, fun etc.

We always win! Grin

SnackRussell · 15/10/2020 17:07

Thanks to this thread I just went for a quick canter. I felt so free, for the first time in ages!

@PenguinsOnParade I’m going to give it a go later. Do you fear toppling forwards or am I imagining entirely the wrong posture?
