Anyone else do weird stuff they wouldn't admit to in real life?

Go easy on me, I know MN can be a hostile time at the minute,,,,
I am currently obsessed with The Handmaids Tale, cant stop watching the series on Prime, and I was lying in the bath having a soak and I started to mimic the lead characters facial movements, and then I though since I have been watching it, I pretend I'm in it, pretending that I am also an oppressed woman and answer to men only etc, is this weird?

I do this with other things like books or other series, it doesn't affect my life, in a crazy way but more like a day dream sort of way and when the kids ask for a snack, i snap out of it. Am I the only weirdo around here, or do have weird things you do that you would never admit to in real life or do I need some professional help :)

Yes, I've always lived in my own little dream world! When I was very young I pretended to be Polly Pan (Peter Pan's sister) and my Sindy ballerina doll was really a fairy who flew around saving animals, the animals of Farthing Wood would come and visit me, the characters in The Lion King lived in a house and went to an animal school, I wanted to run away and join a band of gypsies, and there was a family of cat people who wore Victorian clothes living down a road I used to walk through on the way to school.
Then I was obsessed with The Worst Witch in Year 4, so I'd pretend I was Mildred Hubble and wear lace up boots to school (no idea where they came from, my mum just had them lying around) and tie a ribbon round my waist like a school sash.
In Year 5 I was obsessed with The Belfry Witches and wished really hard I could have a flying broom.
Year 6/7 it was Pokemon and I used to imagine a sort of house on wheels with all the characters and my favourite Pokemon coming with me to school.
In Year 8/9 it was Harry Potter and again I wished I could fly around on a broomstick and go to magical school.
For the rest of the time I was at school I was obsessed with rock music (still am) while imaging what would happen if my favourite band turned up at my school, and I'd sit and write dark angsty poetry and stories and get completely engrossed in another world.
As an adult my fantasies are more adult, but I can get completely lost in daydreams sometimes.

I give detailed explanations of (often fairly dull) things to real people I actually know- but all in my head when they are no where near, and have not asked for an explanation. Eg. whilst waiting for my DC in the car outside school yesterday I (mentally) gave my neighbour a full explanation of the new 3 tier system including what tier we are in and what the restrictions in nearby cities are. I have no specialist knowledge (or interest) in this and have no reason to think my neighbour is likely to ask me to tell him about them.

I also sometimes give imaginary presentations/lectures.

No words are spoken when I do this, but I have caught myself mouthing, gesticulating etc and had to pretend to yawn/stretch in an attempt to cover up my insanity.

boriselbow, me too! Was walking in my local historic cemetery/park today and mentally did a breezy but quite detailed intro to its history and significance to the guy who works in my favourite coffee shop. Blush

I sometimes get a bit animated and have to dial down the mouthing and gesturing too Grin

I often pretend I'm on a cooking show when I'm making dinner too, and mentally do a running commentary on the whole process.

I think having a secret dream world is what keeps us sane. We're in charge of things and nothing bad ever happens.

This thread has made my day! If I've had an argument with someone I often act out the argument in the bathroom mirror and use what I should've said. My OH caught me doing this once and said wtf?! I think he thinks I'm mentalGrin

I plan murders in my head. DH is convinced that I'd get away with killing him as I have every eventuality planned for.
I also count constantly...and have certain numbers that have to come up. If I climb the stairs I count each step but always have to finish on the number 16. My brain is so used to it that it automatically skips when my eyes see the remaining stairs e.g. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,15,16.

Omg I've found my people!! I always pretend I'm a character in a TV show in my head... It is something I always did as a kid and never 'grew out of'... For ages I was a character in Midsummer Murders 😂

I count stuff ALL the time, anything and everything. It’s a constant in my head that I don’t even really notice any more. It’s happened forever.

I look for beautiful, expensive houses on rightmove and then plan my whole life out around them. Research the schools my children would go to, etc. Blush

When I get bored I imagine scenarios where everyone breaks into songs like a musical. My imagination is quite vivid so I could think about the kind of song and dance numbers people would do around the office. It once happened at a funeral too. In my imagination everyone was dancing around the coffin.

Also I used to pretend to be hosting a cooking show when making dinner but I think that's quite common.

I was doing "the robot" in the kitchen. Our kitchen is not overlooked but neighbour happened to be up a ladder pruning his pear tree.

When I say "doing the robot", I mean the 80s robotic dance moves. I'm not that weird!

Whenever I hear a 'fact' I imagine the fact is the answer to the final question on a quiz show and i'll win a large sum of money.

I also narrate my cooking as if I'm being filmed for a tv show called 'cooking on a budget' because my meals are so basic, I don't even try to pretend they'd be on come dine with me.

I have the habit of thinking of my life as a good tv show. The music i hear is the soundtrack and interesting stuff i do and poethic stuff i see is good for the show so i try to lead what i believe to be an interesting life. This has helped me both in good and bad times but i'd never admit i do this.

I do the same as you OP, I sometimes make up extra characters for me to play in my head. I can get pretty obsessed with certain things and characters.
I started doing it a lot when I wasnyounger and spent most of my time in locked in my room in a deep depression because of bullying. Think I was desperately trying to be someone amazing that people actually liked.
I do remember pretending to be jasmine from aladin when I was very young, and I was obsessedbwith Sarah Jessica parkers character in hocus pocus. I thought she was so beautiful.

I always pretend I'm in tv shows and I usually pretend I'm an inmate in prison and my everyday routine is part of that... weird AF Grin I've done this since I was a child... when i was a child I was usually a famous person with sisters (I don't have any sisters) and lived in a huge house. We lived in a flat. Bless me! Lol
