Anyone else do weird stuff they wouldn't admit to in real life?

Go easy on me, I know MN can be a hostile time at the minute,,,,
I am currently obsessed with The Handmaids Tale, cant stop watching the series on Prime, and I was lying in the bath having a soak and I started to mimic the lead characters facial movements, and then I though since I have been watching it, I pretend I'm in it, pretending that I am also an oppressed woman and answer to men only etc, is this weird?

I do this with other things like books or other series, it doesn't affect my life, in a crazy way but more like a day dream sort of way and when the kids ask for a snack, i snap out of it. Am I the only weirdo around here, or do have weird things you do that you would never admit to in real life or do I need some professional help :)

As a very young child I had a tatty shawl which I slept with and stuffed bits up my nose which I found comforting.
Now in my 50's I still need something up my nose (even my own arm hairs) to comfort me so I can sleep 😴

I do the counting while walking thing ( mainly to work). Most popular is car windows e.g. I go past a car with 2 panes of glass on each side + sunscreen + back glass = 6 steps. People carriers are brill as I can get 12 steps out of them, buses are Nirvana.
When there are no cars about I count my steps then quickly minus car Windows when a line of cars goes past. E.g. Traffic lights change.
Very weird. I do this less now that I've changed jobs to a less stressful one.

This thread is just hilarious! I've got tears falling down my face laughing at some of these.

'I sometimes gallop up the stairs on all fours, like a pony.'

This is best one

Cyclewoman
I pretend I’m doing my driving test when driving. I’ve honestly no idea why.

I do this!

I have a full on imaginary life where I play myself but in the style of Claire Underwood. I also have a predilection for body popping all over the place - especially in B&Q. It could be Barbara Dickinson belting out a ballad over the speakers but I can still body pop to it. I have no control over this whatsoever and I do try to be discreet. According to DH, I am really rather good.

reservoircats · 29/10/2020 22:53

@EssentialHummus I do this too and thought I was massively weird and creepy/obsessive for doing so, but now I feel much calmer knowing that someone else does it. I now wonder if anyone has done it to me as well.

morningtoncrescent62 · 29/10/2020 23:03

I've found my people! I like to sing to my vegetables while I'm cooking, in the style of the Swedish chef from the Muppets. At bus stops I'm a Russian spy scoping out who's a double enemy agent (or sometimes I'm a French resistance fighter trying to make contact with someone on the run from the Nazis who needs to escape back to Britain). And when I go shopping I sing the relevant commercials, usually in my head, but occasionally I realise I'm singing "Oh, bodyform, body formed for you" as I pass the tampon shelf.

I play darts with my partner at home. I've given myself a darts persona and come out to a theme song (Rock You Like a Hurricane BTW).

I'm terrible at darts.

@PoltergeistsOnParade

I just remembered another one. I make up random silly songs about anything. It's usually about the dog when I'm playing with him but I also sing to my food as I prepare it etc. I don't even realise I'm doing it most of the time.

DH is used to the silly songs with the dog but only discovered about me singing to my food when he walked into the kitchen last week to find me singing "bagel, bagel, bagel, I'm toasting you today" to the tune of the Dreidel Song. Blush

(I'm also not Jewish and have no idea how I even know the Dreidel Song, I guess it must have been on a TV show at some point? I can't remember hearing it on anything though.)

Did you hear it on South Park many moons ago? I can still hear that version perfectly in my head!
Allamericanreject · 30/10/2020 10:48

Trigger warning!!!!

I had to name change for this.

Does anyone else ever daydream that they have been kidnapped by a murderer or raped etc.
Or even that I am very smart and a sociopath and I'm the one that helps my boyfriend (usually a drug lord or owns a brothel) kidnap and rape women.

90% of my daydreams are dark as fuck! I just love to scare myself in my daydreams. The amount of times I end up in actual tears or shaking from my day dreams is unreal. Definitely also a control thing.

That's possible, thanks. It's been years and years since I've seen the show but it is one of those little tunes that seems to stick in your head. I only seem to know one or two lines of the original song, although I often have many more when I sing it as my bagel song, and they change every time. Blush

Popcornismandatory i read all the responses and thought these are quite normali (ish) i cant possibly admit to mine. Then i read yours. Me too! It started when i was little with dressing gown fluff and carried on. I had a few adult years with no fluff up my nose. Since march ive started again. Only in bed and has to be the right type/shape of fluff. Im wearing a new next halloween jumper and the fluff is just right. Dh will wonder in the morning why we have a jumper in bed. Its calming.

Wineinthegarden · 31/10/2020 21:52

Whenever I listen to music I imagine myself as an ice dancer. I skated once as a child and anyone wanting to lift me on the ice now would need several burly friends to help them, but I am still torvill and dean for every song.

Purpler5 · 31/10/2020 22:00

@Croissantio

I am obsessed with missing people. I am always looking on the Missing People website. I look at who is missing and try to memorise their face just in case I come across them. No idea why or even when I started doing it but I look at each area of the country and see who is "new" since the last time I checked.
I have totally had spells of doing exactly this. In fact you’ve reminded me I’ve checked the site for ages, so I probably will go have a look shortly. I don’t know why I do it, maybe morbid curiosity and then also the desire to help find someone who’s missing.
Lorddenning1 · 12/02/2021 11:33

I know this is an old thread, but i have been feeling a bit down today and i have read it again and its proper made me laugh again :) so thank you to all you weirdos that have commented :)
