What makes someone look rich / wealthy?

Piggy backing onto the LV bag thread - so many responses saying you can tell if the bag is fake / real depending on the persons hair and general look.

I've really noticed this where I live during lockdown - even though we're all predominantly in scruffy clothes / gym gear (just me?!) you can just tell some people look 'rich' - for lack of a better word.

What is it? It's like an unspoken code or something.

Having a really old phone (also computer, television) and not being embarrassed by it.

@Lampzade

Since this thread is about generalisations

Old money doesn't have disposable cash which is why they wear ‘ripped’ clothes. They are asset rich , but cash poor so probably can’t afford the Rolexes and fur coats ( unless it is inherited)

New money is cash rich and asset rich

It's an interesting point. There is a long history of old money (royalty and nobility) being in debt because of the costs of their political roles (buying your way into favour/offices, paying out of pocket for things the king should pay for etc) and the need to live a lavish lifestyle because it is expected off you.

And there is also the centuries old tradition of old money marrying new money (merchants, industrialists) because they actually have cash. That then gets spent on bling jewellery, expensive clothes, house extensions, silk wallpaper, gambling, horses, career advancement etc until you run out and the family needs to find another heiress.

Clothes: well cared for classics, very good shoes.
Accessories: Plain face watches for men, wedding rings only for both, mud.
Cars: Subaru estate if rural, Lancia Delta in town, putting a bag of peat in the Lamborghini and wearing a bias cut shift dress while street racing on the A43.
House: the one your ancestors built.
Hair: either a bob suitable for MMA (Duchess of Northumberland), a 50s classic, or something north of £500 per cut. Men: Brideshead.

Simon Cowell is very rich, but he looks like a thin plastic mannequin in a shop window, and he is very vain, His clothes don't indicate that he is rich though.
He is also a very odd colour - the orangey-brown of cheap pine furniture. (He mum lived near a friend, and we once saw him in her front garden).

Good shoes and bags. Not necessarily flash, but good quality.
