What makes someone look rich / wealthy?

Piggy backing onto the LV bag thread - so many responses saying you can tell if the bag is fake / real depending on the persons hair and general look.

I've really noticed this where I live during lockdown - even though we're all predominantly in scruffy clothes / gym gear (just me?!) you can just tell some people look 'rich' - for lack of a better word.

What is it? It's like an unspoken code or something.

Posh chin 🤔

What makes someone look rich / wealthy?
Iamthewombat · 14/10/2020 17:31

In general people who are truly wealthy don't feel the need to prove it to anyone by being flashy or by buying certain things.

Once again, who is buying the superyachts, private jets, Aston Martins and couture Chanel? It’s not people using PCP schemes, is it? Or is it that the rich people who like buying these things are a bit vulgar and hence don’t qualify for inclusion in the ‘truly wealthy’ gang with their dog hair-covered Volvos?

Oi Janevaljane, you forgot the dusty tiara!

Iamthewombat · 14/10/2020 17:33

Because not every girl from a humble background will have hard features. I said I'd observed a trend. And I have observed it now for many years

Ok, so SOME girls attending state schools are allowed to be beautiful by sheer accident but the majority are mingers and lower life forms?

This is hilarious.

Facelikearustytractor · 14/10/2020 17:34

An entourage?

biddybird · 14/10/2020 17:35

Expensive shoes, even if worn out.

Lolaloveslemonade · 14/10/2020 17:38

Yes! The shoes!
Prince Harry’s shoes (see pic)

@Lolaloveslemonade separately- I have never known how Meghan (if that's who is in the pic) can walk in heels like that - I wouldn't last 5 minutes!

coco
I think only very tiny or extremely light people can wear shoes like that!
In contrast, I almost always wear boots in the winter and Birkenstock’s in the summer
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

MuserOwl · 14/10/2020 17:49

@VinylDetective don't think the queen mother who has been dead for ab9ut 18 years shows that aristos dont have good straight big white teeth.
Look at the younger generation.

MuserOwl · 14/10/2020 17:50

And even the younger generation are pushing 40!

SecretSpAD · 14/10/2020 17:54

Upper class people always have really good upright posture, great bone structure and a toned body. They could wear a potato sack and have straw in their hair but they still look regal

Lol. I must have missed that memo. I'm short, fat and generally decked out in the middle class staple - Boden GrinGrinGrin

TheWashingMachine · 14/10/2020 17:56

Rich women tend to be thin

Iamthewombat · 14/10/2020 18:02

Rich women tend to be thin

We’ve had this already. There are loads of fat rich people. Don’t hide behind ‘tend to’ to excuse an incorrect generalisation.

GenevaMaybe · 14/10/2020 18:08

I live in Geneva and here we have two main types of wealthy people:

  • Very flashy expats. Lots of plastic surgery, hair, nails, teeth, designer logos etc. Everything is look at me. Higgggh heels. Massssssive diamonds.
  • Beautifully coiffed and understated swiss people. Tend to dress in cashmere and fur in winter, silk and linen in summer. Interesting jewellery pieces. Hermes handbags. Perfectly maintained hair nails and shoes. Generally wear monochromatic muted tones eg head to toe cream or dove grey.
ToryAldi · 14/10/2020 18:48

The Royal family have terrible teeth. Paying to have teeth straightened or whitened would never occur to them. I find this weird - how would you know what would occur to the "Royals" as a group - surely they have differing opinions, surely some of them are vain enough to want to look their best for the cameras.

IncandescentSilver · 14/10/2020 18:50

A quick look on Tinder, especially on the city I live in, will show that a lot of chavvy men have hard features and rough aged skin for their age. And completely bald. Not balding but totally hairless, ala Phil Mitchell. How can I tell they are chavvy apart from that - the descriptions and also the photos of them with tbeir tongues sticking out or holding a can or bottle of alcohol in their hand.

They both sound awful. Very small doses of either would be hard to tolerate - but I'm sliding towards the former - I think I might at least laugh.
paintmywholehousepink · 14/10/2020 19:00

My boss has an inherited title, is extremely well educated & connected but doesn't have heaps of cash. People would assume he's rich.

Some "footballers wives" types in an area up the road from here drive really expensive cars, have designer everything, well coiffed, full of botox etc... just don't look classy at all.

Go figure.

paintmywholehousepink · 14/10/2020 19:02

@ToryAldi but you wouldn't be able to laugh on account of all the botox 🤣🤣🤣

ThatDamnScientist · 14/10/2020 19:03

Quiet confidence (not loud mouthiness), slenderness (don't flame, I'm fat!).

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 14/10/2020 19:07

Well based on the chap you won 9 million on the lottery the close proximity of a bunch of 'ne'er-do-wells' may indicate it.

Iamuhtredsonofuhtred · 14/10/2020 19:07

The richest people I know, multiple mansions, jet, aristocratic family, dress like complete shit! They have dogs and animals and don’t care about bougie things like hair or style. Look closely though and their clothes and watches/bags are all designer but really really understated.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 14/10/2020 19:10

Excuse my typo - not 'you' but 'who'

I get so excited when I think I have a response...

ToryAldi · 14/10/2020 19:12

But excess in small doses is fun - people who are so far up their own arses with rules about how it should be are not, they give me heartburn - but then I think for most, all that cashmere and silk is just a front, just like the teeth and botox, underneath we all like to let go. We all like to be excessive and the wealthy are no exception, except maybe the dull ones and you'll find those in all the strata.

GameSetMatch · 14/10/2020 19:16

There’s a guy who walks around the local area, his dog on a bit of string, he has a big dirty smell coat paired with odd wellies he grumbles to himself and goes into peoples front gardens to retrieve bits of rubbish. Apparently he’s a multimillionaire. Rich people don’t always look or act rich, they have nothing to prove.
