Aibu to tell you about my quick awesome lunch...

2 slices of wholemeal bread..toasted. Good spread of lurpak on each. A fried egg on each, good bit of tomato ketchup and then topped with Batchelors baked beans. So good. What did you all have for lunch?

@Psychoseverywhere yes I made it with the green tomatoes this year instead of chutney, it's very nice. Lots of recipes online

FOJN · 12/10/2020 21:43

Homemade red pepper humous (made with peanut butter instead of tahini) and veg. Orange and kiwi to follow.

Eggs must go on top of beans, it's the law. And ketchup has no business anywhere near beans, it has to be brown sauce or sriracha.

Lurpak is not butter, no matter what it says on the packet, ditto Country Life and Anchor.

Psychoseverywhere · 13/10/2020 08:10

@vampirethriller i dont think we get such delicacies as green tomatoes over here in Ireland but I shall certainly look out for them. I grow nothing here, im too lazy!

@TheGirlWhoLived

I had three bacon and cheese oatcakes (the Staffordshire sort) and an easy peeler to ward off scurvy Two for me and one for the baby so probably more than an average portion Grin
TheGirlWhoLived - I thought when you said 'oatcakes' you meant those biscuit things like Nairns do and I thought - bloody hell she's doing with a baby eating just those for lunch, LOL, but then I recall my friend from Coventry who has made me 'Staffordshire oatcakes' - the Guardian calls them 'criminally neglected' so will try to makes these.

They are soooooo nice.

FOJN - do you have that red pepper humous recipe please?

What counts as butter in your book? Is Kerrygold which is my preferred one in that list - however for baking I just chose any old butter...

potter5 · 13/10/2020 13:02

I've sent you the recipe via pm.

AdaColeman · 13/10/2020 13:20

Parma ham with fresh figs and cream cheese today, tasty and quick and easy. Wine

Turboshift · 13/10/2020 18:58

Left over chicken stir fry from last night. 3 mini daim bars.

Have OP’s lunch for brunch often. But runny egg goes on one toast and beans on the other toast. Lots of butter and some times grate cheese on top then black pepper.

Greeneyes78 · 13/10/2020 19:11

Two chocolate digestives, two sausages and a malted milk

FOJN · 13/10/2020 19:27

@CleverCatty

2-3 jarred red peppers
1/2 - 2-3 tin of chickpeas
1 small onion
1 small clove of garlic
Lime juice (from a bottle)
1-2 tablespoons peanut butter
Chilli - fresh or bottled sauce, depending on preference and what you have.
Salt

I think it makes about 300-350 mls. I store leftovers in the fridge for 2 days, it may keep longer but I've never tried.

Throw it all in a blender/ food processor and blend until it has your preferred consistency and texture. Sorry if it seems a bit vague but I've been making it for years so it varies according to what I have or fancy on any given day. The peanut butter substitution was taken from a Nigella Lawson recipe, I can't bear the smell of tahini.

FOJN · 13/10/2020 19:29

As for butter, anything local which for me is West Country.

Shxx · 13/10/2020 20:21

Only had spag bol to eat today. I have a thing though for club sandwiches at lunch

Sexnotgender · 13/10/2020 21:03

Why is lurpak not butter? Not talking the spreadable stuff the actual block.

Wrenna · 13/10/2020 21:08

High Fibre wrap with turkey and a tiny bit basil dressing and three small plums. Very unexciting!

lazylinguist · 14/10/2020 12:12

Lurpak is not butter, no matter what it says on the packet, ditto Country Life and Anchor.

Confused What are they then, if they're not butter? Are you talking about the spreadable versions in tubs? Because you know those brands make normal blocks of butter in foil packets, right?

If you mean the block wouldn't you just say butter?

If you meant the tub, wouldn't you just say 'spreadable butter'? I don't see why the brand is more relevant to mention for spreadable than non-spreadable.

lazylinguist · 14/10/2020 12:39

I think people tend to say the brand of butter because they specifically like that brand (whether they are referring to spreadable or block).

AstiniMartini · 14/10/2020 12:46

Yesterday I had an egg and lettuce sandwich with a milky way.

Today is German bratwurst in a brichoe roll and potato salad.

Lunch is one of my 3 favourite meals of the day.

Chickpea and butternut squash pie with vegetables soup poured over 🤤🤤🤤

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 14/10/2020 12:49

Lurpak, along with other 'continental' butters is cultured with a lactic culture that gives it a different texture and taste to simply churned butter. But it is still basically the fat from milk.

I much prefer unsalted President to any of the bright yellow butters that seem to have loads of water in them, Anchor, Kerrygold etc. Anchor is particularly horrid and to me has a slightly rancid taste and smell.

kowari · 14/10/2020 12:50

I personally wouldn't say 'spreadable butter' as there is more variation. If you put that on a shopping list you could end up with a 'buttery spread' Envy (not envy). I'm not that fussed with butter.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 14/10/2020 12:53

Salad with Halloumi. It's ok.. 🤷🏻‍♀️
