GCSEs will be cancelled this summer!

So the Scottish equivalent of GCSEs have been cancelled this summer.

I posted in chat about this but barely anybody responded. Seems nobody cares because it's Scotland. I thought we were a united kingdom. Seems not. I can guarantee that if GCSEs were cancelled in England my post would have had numerous posts. Nobody cares because it's Scotland, even though during these corona days Scotland seems to be showing us a sneak preview of what will be happening in England in a few weeks. So my guess is that GCSEs will be cancelled this year soon

I hope so!

MountainMert · 10/10/2020 23:06

Eh? Why would anyone who isn't in Scotland care that Scottish exams have been cancelled? You demanding everyone care about something that doesn't impact them is really petty.

Slightlybrwnbanana · 10/10/2020 23:08

The exams have been cancelled, the qualifications will still go ahead but with internal assessment.

Pipandmum · 10/10/2020 23:11

People care about what affects them directly. If one doesn't have a child taking exams in Scotland they probably have no view on it.

CrocodilesCry · 10/10/2020 23:19

Seems nobody cares because it's Scotland. I thought we were a united kingdom

Hollow laughter Sad

AKissAndASmile · 10/10/2020 23:21

@MountainMert
'Eh' because we're in the UK and supposedly are in it together. You obviously think Scotland is nothing to do with you
If I was in Scotland I'd definitely vote for independence

The population of Scotland is just much smaller, it's nothing personal. London on its own has a bigger population than your entire nation. As a teacher I care very much that this was announced on Wednesday, it's massive news for the young people of Scotland and could be an indicator for the young people of the rest of the UK.

However I hope the exams in England are cancelled, I'm not convinced they will be.

daisypond · 10/10/2020 23:23

When did you post? It’s old news.

Bridecilla · 10/10/2020 23:23

Scotland don't have GCSEs. So GCSEs haven't been cancelled yet yabu

AKissAndASmile · 10/10/2020 23:25

I'm in England. And I think the fact you think
You demanding everyone care about something that doesn't impact them is really petty. is very telling.

Nobody in England cares apparently

They have not been cancelled in England, what a misleading thread title. Stop speculating as if it is fact. It’s complete misinformation.

roarfeckingroarr · 10/10/2020 23:28

Because it doesn't affect us. I doubt Scots care much about England-only policy decisions.

CamillasHardHat · 10/10/2020 23:29

You know there is a whole board dedicated to all things Scottish

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/scotsnet

To be honest, it doesn't affect me, just like when Londoners talk about stuff in London. I also don't have a child sitting exams next year either. None of this affects me and with everything else that does affect me such as Ds1 applying for uni and no open days so completely guessing whether he would like a town and uni. The now online interviews, worries that he will get Covid from his sixth form where other children have got it, worried his brother will catch it from the numerous children who have had it in his secondary school and his year group and that Ds1 will have covid and not be able to sit the required entrance exam for uni or get covid before then and not be able to do past papers for said entrance exam. These things are much more pressing.

It doesn't affect anyone in England though. Why would they care? This is such a weird thread. Scottish exams don't impact English students. I doubt Scottish parents/students care about English exams either. Do you know what's happening with French exams this year?

daisypond · 10/10/2020 23:30

How have you just discovered this today?

AuntieUrsula · 10/10/2020 23:30

I didn;t see your other thread, Op, but I agree with you. Not so much because we're a united kingdom (we clearly aren't when it comes to covid) but because Boris so far has generally followed what Nicola has done - after a respectable interval!

nancy75 · 10/10/2020 23:31

There are at least 2 other threads about this, both are quite long - clearly quite a few people care

ShaunaTheSheep · 10/10/2020 23:31

Agree what a ridiculous and misleading thread title. YABU.

AKissAndASmile · 10/10/2020 23:31

I'm not Scottish. I live in England and believe GCSEs will be cancelled because Scotland has done it and BJ seems to lag behind Scotland during this pandemic. I have skin in the game and so am concerned.

Why would someone who isn't in Scotland care that their gcse equivalent has been cancelled? Confused
I guess it could be a clue that English GCSEs will also be cancelled, but until that's announced then I don't care.

TabithaTadpole · 10/10/2020 23:32

Erm maybe because there’s already a thread discussing this already? Plenty of posts within it discussing Scotland.

Ok, see you in a month when I can say I told you so.

Secondary school children have been thrown to the wolves, with no social distancing and covid cases spreading like wildfire. It is so ridiculous that our children are the only people made to go to places with no social distancing and not allowed to wear masks and we are waiting to see what happens. Of course there will be no exams this year for year 11.

I can guarantee that if GCSEs were cancelled in England my post would have had numerous posts.

Might just be because the population of England is over 10 times bigger than that of Scotland. But whine away.
