GCSEs will be cancelled this summer!

So the Scottish equivalent of GCSEs have been cancelled this summer.

I posted in chat about this but barely anybody responded. Seems nobody cares because it's Scotland. I thought we were a united kingdom. Seems not. I can guarantee that if GCSEs were cancelled in England my post would have had numerous posts. Nobody cares because it's Scotland, even though during these corona days Scotland seems to be showing us a sneak preview of what will be happening in England in a few weeks. So my guess is that GCSEs will be cancelled this year soon

@AKissAndASmile

Because it doesn't affect us. I doubt Scots care much about England-only policy decisions

Ok, see you in a month when I can say I told you so.

Secondary school children have been thrown to the wolves, with no social distancing and covid cases spreading like wildfire. It is so ridiculous that our children are the only people made to go to places with no social distancing and not allowed to wear masks and we are waiting to see what happens. Of course there will be no exams this year for year 11.

  1. Yes, you're probably correct that GCSEs will be cancelled. Anyone with a braincell knows that. But so what? Why does everyone need to comment on your thread and give you attention because of it.
  2. Students are absolutely allowed to wear masks. Many schools encourage it and many demand it (unless there are medical reasons not to).
I don't understand what your point is. You seem to be saying you made a post about Scotland and the entirety of the rest of the UK is out of order for not caring about things that don't affect them and not commenting on your post. Very weird.
nancy75 · 10/10/2020 23:42

Or maybe it’s just because there are already 2 other threads on the same subject...

AKissAndASmile · 10/10/2020 23:45

@MountainMert
My son's school has said they are not allowed to wear masks in class. They have to wear them in hallways though.

No idea why you're saying 'so what' that GCSEs may be cancelled . That's a big deal.

Masks are compulsory in both my DCs secondary schools.

AllDayHappyHour · 10/10/2020 23:46

Eh? Why would anyone who isn't in Scotland care that Scottish exams have been cancelled? You demanding everyone care about something that doesn't impact them is really petty

^ THIS ^

waltzingparrot · 10/10/2020 23:47

What's actually surprising is that you had barely any Scots respond to your thread.

I understand it's a big deal but I don't understand why you think YOU deserve attention because of it. What makes YOU so important?

You know you can choose to home educate don’t you, if you don’t want your children at school? Personally I think the throwing to the wolves was done when the schools closed. Not now they’re open. I have a child due to sit GCSEs next summer so I care a great deal what happens. But Wales and Scotland have made it clear they’re making their own rules, so I’m not really interested until it directly affects me.
Mintychoc1 · 10/10/2020 23:57

And why do you want to say “I told you so”?
Those of us with year 11 kids are watching the news closely, but there is literally nothing we can do about the government decision. I neither agree nor disagree with your belief that GCSEs will be cancelled. None of us know. And it’s really not a competition to see who can predict what will happen.

Busybrain2020 · 11/10/2020 00:05

This news broke a few days ago. What's there to talk about anyway? It's hardly surprising.

You are oddly angry!

DumplingsAndStew · 11/10/2020 00:16

@AKissAndASmile

London on its own has a bigger population than your entire nation.

I'm not Scottish. I live in England and believe GCSEs will be cancelled because Scotland has done it and BJ seems to lag behind Scotland during this pandemic. I have skin in the game and so am concerned.

Quite ironic to post a thread about how people only care about things that affect them, then go on to say you are concerned because it affects you. 😉
GetThatHelmetOn · 11/10/2020 00:19

In al honesty, I think you are blessed with a government that has the balls and foresight to take difficult but sensible decisions. We, on the other hand, are ruled by people who cannot even keep an eye on the ball and who doesn’t give a shit about screwing people up with multiple u turns.

whydoicomehere · 11/10/2020 00:20

I'm Scottish, didn't see your thread. We tend to discuss this stuff on scotsnet.
I wouldn't care if England had exams cancelled (bar a passing thought of sympathy for the kids) and wouldn't expect people in England to be much bothered about exams up here.
In fact, because I don't have any children old though to be sitting exams I've only had a passing thought of sympathy about exams being cancelled here.
You don't need to be outraged on our behalf.

BluebellsGreenbells · 11/10/2020 00:21

I disagree. Some Scottish qualifications are taken by English students. They have some specialist ones that have been cancelled near here.

DizzyPigeon · 11/10/2020 00:22

I'm in Scotland and I don't really care that National 5 exams have been cancelled, so I have no expectation that people elsewhere in the UK would.

Nat6999 · 11/10/2020 00:36

I wonder if they will bring back continuous assessment for all GCSE & A levels, that way there will be a more accurate picture at what grade pupils are working at & less appeals.

1forAll74 · 11/10/2020 00:54

Lots of people will care about any children's exams cancelled, wherever it may be, they just don't post about it.

BubblyBarbara · 11/10/2020 01:04

You mean next summer.

emilyfrost · 11/10/2020 04:50

YABVU. Of course people who don’t live in Scotland aren’t going to care, because it doesn’t affect them.

Why should they? Confused

DerbyshireMama · 11/10/2020 05:16

U ok hun?

RebeccaCloud9 · 11/10/2020 06:02

Are you always this offended and angry in real life? Must be exhausting.

Elderflower14 · 11/10/2020 06:11

Why post twice??? 🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄

OwlBeThere · 11/10/2020 06:11

@AKissAndASmile, the irony that you say nobody cares about Scotland whilst behaving like there are only Scotland and England in the UK is highly amusing to me, Hmm

daytripper28 · 11/10/2020 06:35

I have a dd in year 11 and care very much about her GCSEs.

However, don't appreciate more bad news or virtually gloating over the fact her important exams may be cancelled in England.

So no, your thread is not welcome.

rwalker · 11/10/2020 06:40

I think peoples expectations are way above whats possible .
Online doesn't work my friends a teacher about a third of pupils actually did anything .
The kids WILL NOT social distance they've all but given up trying to enforce it . they ignore hand sanitizer. there's over 1200 pupils impossible to manage .
