AIBU?

To be p*ssed off that people are using MN as a free alterntive to ebay

I know its been done hundreds of times before but at the moment it seems worse than ever.

I'm all for people selling on things that they dont need, things that would appeal to other MN'ers, but its getting ridiculous.

"For Sale" 1 garden shed, "L" REG ford fiesta, 7 garden knomes, a dog, four AA batteries and a kitchen sink"

People are selling the most unbelievable crap, and even worse than that bumping it up 20 or 30 times a day - take the fcuking hint - no one wants your junk.

I know that I can click on the no selling button but thats not really the point. I'm sure Mumsnet must be recommend on some money saving site as a free site to off load your crap.

There are some people that are only using the "For Sale" section, nothing else. I picked a random person just now, did a search on messages today - nearly 200... ALL IN THE SALE SECTION!!

Do us all a favour.. WWW.EBAY.CO.UK

I've just noticed the 'no buying and selling' checkbox cos of this thread.

What's with the 'no chat' box???

Is that for the sellers?

I got slated by one seller as I only posted on her thread to slag off her cheap tat.

Funnily enough, I was the only poster. She should have been grateful for the bumping!

I have just bumped my thread and promise not to do it again until tonight... (busiest time of week tonight!!!)

I do also think that if sellers are getting a free ad that they should put up with the occasional attack

The MN community is a village, albeit a bloody big one. We have our own branch of the WI, a pub and a tea shop for gawds sake

It feels now like the little village shops are losing trade to all the supermarkets and stores run by 'incomers', built on our green belt and all rent free.

Wouldn't mind so much if they didn't constantly cover the village with posters advertising their wares. They can only expect gossip if they keep doing that.

We need to petition the council (MNHQ of course) to start charging the non residents rent.

don't think she's had chance to do one yet - will give her a nudge tonight.

LOl at StG.

If you are charged £5 to cat I don't see why you can't be charged to sell.

I wish MN would do away with the "wanted" board as some of the wants border on the plain ridiculous. You can buy the things cheaper in the shops than someone elses 2nd hand tat.

Awwwwww (broody)

Sod the nudge, give her a hug from me please and some big cuddles for DD1 and DD2

I'd rather sell on my stuff to someone who genuinely wants it on MN than on Ebay, which is overrun by professional Ebayer-types (my least favourite people at the moment...). Agree that when those same said types use a community site like this to peddle their junk it is mildly annoying.

Satan george, what a lovely picture, i never thought of mn like that!

The buying and selling don't bother me that much, I just tick the box not to see them. it's the swapshop threads that annoy me. You ge tpeople saying
"I have a snot green buzzy dou thingy with matching footmuff, does anyone wnat to swap it for £100"
Lots of them, all the time.

Report
Fimbo · 12/10/2007 15:00

Oh Saltire there was a cracker yesterday on the swap board. Someone wanted to do a house swap (permanently not a holiday swap!). I admit to having a chuckle at that one.

Ok maybe a bit of a generalisation here but why do they all seem to be called mummytochardonaychantelleprincessrhianna or something similar?

I think you should have to be signed up to CAT (a fiver a year) to post on buy and sell. Most regular mners are signed up for it anyway, and at least mn may get some extra money from people avoiding ebay, or putting off "taking stuff to the charity shop" for 3 or 4 or 5 weeks.
