I know its been done hundreds of times before but at the moment it seems worse than ever.

I'm all for people selling on things that they dont need, things that would appeal to other MN'ers, but its getting ridiculous.

"For Sale" 1 garden shed, "L" REG ford fiesta, 7 garden knomes, a dog, four AA batteries and a kitchen sink"

People are selling the most unbelievable crap, and even worse than that bumping it up 20 or 30 times a day - take the fcuking hint - no one wants your junk.

I know that I can click on the no selling button but thats not really the point. I'm sure Mumsnet must be recommend on some money saving site as a free site to off load your crap.

There are some people that are only using the "For Sale" section, nothing else. I picked a random person just now, did a search on messages today - nearly 200... ALL IN THE SALE SECTION!!

Do us all a favour.. WWW.EBAY.CO.UK

Neither have I said 'less worthwhile' posters should not be allowed to sell at all. They can do what the fark they like, I am saying I personally just think it's a bit pants to come on MN solely to sell, that's all.

I am not wound up about it, I never get wound up about anything on here tbh, I just think it's a shame peoples stuff goes in-noticed because of sole sellers....

Santasmissyontheside · 12/10/2007 09:20

Its stolen goods though! JOKE!!

fwiw - in active convos at the moment, there are 4 "for sale" threads.

Whilst I get your point, that's not actually that many.

FrannyandZooey · 12/10/2007 09:24

make that 5 - I am just about to bump mine

Santasmissyontheside · 12/10/2007 09:24

I agree about being member for 6 months that will but the new members suddenly appearing just to sell

FrannyandZooey · 12/10/2007 09:24

and no, I don't buy or sell a lot on here, and I don't give a stuff if other people's stuff is on the board at the same time as mine

BUT DOES IT MATTER

does it, really matter LL?

I bet there are posters who post 500 times a week asking for support and advice and not giving any out

I don't care, MN is still here for me to use it how I want to

Santasmissyontheside · 12/10/2007 09:26

Anyway does anyone want this dress or not? Phone sold!

A point I made on one of the many other threads about this is that mn NEED the traffic that the free buying and selling produce. It hardly impacts on the rest of us, we can choose not to see it and soon we won't have to see swaps either. It doesn't bother me in the slightest if Cutsiehun666 is selling 47 buggies on Buy and Sell because I don't encounter her and it has the added advantage of pulling in some different and perhaps more lucrative advertising for mnhq (Boden and The White Company cannot keep us afloat singlehandedly)

FrannyandZooey · 12/10/2007 09:29

yeah shut up and come and buy my shoes

or I will have to go on eBay and [horror] pay fees

FrannyandZooey · 12/10/2007 09:30

oops sorry LL

I hope I didn't damage those lovely wabbit ears

FrannyandZooey · 12/10/2007 09:30

agree Carmenere

I don't get this selling thing either.

I have never had the need to sell anything ever. I just use it and give it to a friend if it's wanted or a charity shop.

I don't understand why anyone would sell something to a stranger. Too much bloody hassle for a start.

Al our baby stuff, prams, etc have gone to friends.

I guess it doesn't bother me on this site though. I never visit the sale section so i have no idea whether it is annoying or not.

I agree Eric BUT I also understand that for many selling stuff that they don't need anymore, particularly baby stuff, that is often good quality and only a little used , can be a valuable source of independent income.

EricL · 12/10/2007 09:44

My God - just took my first look at it. I see what you mean - it is rather busy isn't it?

Some right crap being sold too.

Personalised pen for £2?

Oh dear.

Essentially mn are running a successful marketplace board alongside a successful talk board. They hardly impinge on each other at all.

ScottishMummy · 12/10/2007 10:02

does not bother me tbh. have used to to buy things and in fairness have got some really nice items for very reasonable price. i also responded to a wanted ad a mum desperate to find preemie size babysuits/vests and was happy to give them as freebies - i know how hard it was with a tiny baby.

i accept there are many sales, obviously as a purchaser entering a proivate sale you need to be savvy.but i do think it is acceptable to have a sales board - just be canny

on the bumping a thread issue , well hands up to that!i sold a NN oioi bag after 20+ shameless bumps (no interest) but on 25bid i had 6 emails all wanting it, so sometimes that is the way it goes

i like the for sale board. the majority of transactions are beneficial to both parties
