Nc for this as may be outing.
Dh went to london yesterday on train and returned about 11pm.
On the return he saw the Head of the pre-order at my son's school with 3 friends - 2 ladies and 2 men altogether- all without masks and drinking from cans of g&t.
This is a £30k a year prep school, not that it should make any difference. But the head gets a lot of shit, because everyone pays they expect so much.
I'm inclined not to say anything, but wondered what would mn do?

Is the the new normal for stealth boasting that you’ve got £30k to spaff on prep school?

year5teacher · 09/10/2020 19:35

Not sure how their job comes into it. Biscuit

Merryoldgoat · 09/10/2020 19:36

Utter bollocks. What prep is £30k? Even Thomas’ is less than £25k

Hmm
Topseyt · 09/10/2020 19:41

I don't like masks. I just put one on when I must. I went to my parents' house by train in the summer and took food and drink on with me specifically so that I could remove my mask during the journey. Why wouldn't I?

Shock horror, I also snuck my mask down for the odd few minutes at times when I wasn't eating just to get a better lungful of breath when I was starting to struggle.

This MNer has no issue with non-mask wearers.

DipSwimSwoosh · 09/10/2020 19:41

I can't see the problem. Person with a job, not at work, takes a train and has a drink. All school staff are expected to be 2m from students at all times anyway.

BewilderedDoughnut · 09/10/2020 19:44

Mine was over £12,000 a term and that years ago! 🤷‍♀️

Maireas · 09/10/2020 19:47

Absolutely, @PurpleDaisies!
OP, tell your husband to stop staring at women on trains.

theluckiest · 09/10/2020 20:08

Oh give over.

She's probably had a really shit day dealing with all sorts of bollocks and working 70 hour weeks.

I'm surprised she wasn't swigging from a bloody bottle of Gordon's.

And go into any supermarket and you'll find people not wearing masks.

Who ya gonna call? The mask police?!

Prep? Day school?

Hmm

This one is 10k per term, boarding

So is this one

Just from a quick google. Both prep schools in the SE.

vanillandhoney · 09/10/2020 20:15

Prep? Day school?

Not all prep schools are just day schools. Plenty of preps offer boarding as standard from 8yo.

Merryoldgoat · 09/10/2020 20:20

I work in a prep - when talking ‘fees’ we never include the boarding element.

I just think it’s disingenuous to say ‘fees’ when a large amount of the cost is boarding.

It’s just a way of trying to sound fancier than it is.

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 09/10/2020 20:23

Oh god. Was it at least M&S gin?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 09/10/2020 20:27

My guess is they were probably going for dinner and drinks anyway so would have been sitting without masks at their destination. Not sure what the difference is.

NailsNeedDoing · 09/10/2020 20:29

At least you were right that is doesn’t make any difference that it’s a £30k a year prep school. Wouldn’t it be awful if people thought the fact that they paid for school meant they could legitimately pass judgement on what the teachers do in their own time? 😱

imfatletsparty · 09/10/2020 20:30

Please get a life OP.

Pieceofpurplesky · 09/10/2020 20:32

I'll just leave this here

Teacher no mask
DBML · 09/10/2020 20:33

Fookin’ eck.
Do what you like op. Drink a G&T with a mask, without a mask or even through the mask. I couldn’t give a toodle.

Downton57 · 09/10/2020 20:34

You said in your post that the head gets a lot of shit. Why would you want to add to that? What are you hoping to achieve? And what possible business is it of yours what she does out of school?

I have sympathies OP. There are many things that are low risk - like meeting people outside or not being exactly socially distanced. I respect many of people’s individual choices.

However public transport is high risk. Being in an indoor enclosed compartment with no possibility of fresh air - well if the Teacher had Covid and kept their mask off for 45 minutes there is a high possibility that they will infect at least one other person - and if a super spreader more.

So I’d be annoyed they couldn’t wait until they were at least out of the train before getting stuck into drinks. Or even 10 minutes before they got off would be less risky.

But would I say something if I wasn’t there? No I wouldn’t.

And honestly I think it is because people don’t understand the levels of risk. They don’t understand what would be much higher risk and that is the fault of media/public messaging.

LeanishMachine · 09/10/2020 20:45

You're allowed to remove your mask on a train to eat or drink.

FreshFreesias · 09/10/2020 20:50

OP, you sound very controlling.
This poor woman deserves a private life.
