My son has an a-typical shape - he is a proper combination of me and my husband. I’m West Indian and have a large bottom and big thighs (shape, not weight - I’m fat too but this is separate).

My husband is tall and broad with long legs.

I cannot find any school trousers to fit him well so I’m wondering if any of you might have a son with a similar shape?

He’s 7 but very tall - Y3 but as tall as the Y5 boys.

Sold thighs and sticky out bum

Slim waist

Plus are no good as they just have a big waist 😭

Try Matalan comfort fit. Yes you'll have to use the adjustable elastic in the waist but they will fit over the seat and thigh.

Givemeabreak88 · 09/10/2020 15:52

I stopped being able to find trousers that fit my son so he wears joggers plain black, luckily I’ve not had any issues with the school

Neolara · 09/10/2020 15:52

Can you get a big size but in a style that has a waist you can alter with the elastic and buttons? John Lewis have them.

I’ll look at these - thank you!

If I could find joggers with no cuff I’d try this - that’s a definitely possibility.

I've had similar struggle but found sturdy fit trousers on amazon which were a good fit.

dementedpixie · 09/10/2020 15:55

Plus fit are roomier in the legs too plus they have the elastic adjusters in the waist

Lots of places the bigger size is longer but not much roomier in the arse.

This is the exact problem I have with trousers.

Marks and Spencer regular leg (not skinny leg) plus fit school trousers. My son has a big bottom and very chunky thighs and they were good for him.

frustrationcentral · 09/10/2020 16:07

A nightmare in our house too. We've never really found any good school trousers so I'm watching with interest!

TheNoodlesIncident · 09/10/2020 16:09

I usually go to M&S for the "sturdy" fit trousers, they have a useful size guide online if you know what his measurements are, you can see what age/size to try.

The uniform shops in our area also do a plus fit, it might be worth trying those if there are any near you?

ohheckwhatnow · 09/10/2020 16:12

Sainsburys regular fit here. Found they are slightly roomier in the Thighs

MinnieJackson · 09/10/2020 16:15

Following!
My eldest boy sounds similar shape and age! I've tried M&s, aldi, sainsburys, matalan, morrisons, large fit H&m suit trousers and asda! Cannot get trousers and he struggles with the book and eye fastenings. He's wearing plain black slim joggers at the minute from H&m and his schools fine with it

Is Sainsbury’s we’ve currently got that are spray-on 🙈

This is my cousin! My Aunt was crazy good seamstress so she made her own. Is that an option for you?

Interestingly I do actually see and have a sewing machine - I’m just not very good...

However I could adjust a much bigger pair if necessary.

Honestly - it’s ridiculous.

He looks like a rugby player in his pants - so solid and BIG without being fat if that makes sense?

I have no idea how a 7yo can have such a grown-up shape.

Trutex sturdy fit.

devuskums · 09/10/2020 18:02

My friends son has always had the type of body shape you describe...rugby player with a sticky out bum. He used to wear generous fit from bhs and sturdykids.co.uk. It's awful when you can't get them the uniform to fit, it's so stressful!

tshirtsuntan · 09/10/2020 18:08

Have a look at zeco sturdy fit on Amazon, they were the only ones to fit my son. Supermarket plus fit wouldn't go over his thighs!

haba · 09/10/2020 18:15

Tbh all the trousers are cut as if boys have no bottom. My DS is underweight, sometimes quite severely. He has a rugby players bottom (despite not being at all sporty, that's just his shape) and I struggle to get trousers that a comfortable in the seat for him. He's very short too, so usually have to pick a size, a style that has those elastic adjusters, and then shorten the length.

ZebraSpotts · 09/10/2020 18:27

Asda do long/tall trousers and plus fit, with adjustable waist so can adjust that smaller to fit waist, but room for bum.

dementedpixie · 09/10/2020 18:30

I found Tesco plus fit was better than Asda. Next plus fit was also ok

IHateCoronavirus · 09/10/2020 18:35

Have you tried m&s plus fit in short leg?
My DSs have to have regular leg for school and the leg was so wide on them, we ended up getting slim fit Long and no one noticed.

Onthedancefloor · 09/10/2020 18:43

I've ordered blouses for my daughter from here before and they fitted her well, hopefully they might have trousers for your nephew's shape too:
