so covid isn't going anywhere, its raining, we might be locked in again and we don't know what Christmas is going to look like. People around me seem pretty blue right now and I get it. BUT, I do love autumn, so can we share some lovely things to look forward to over the coming months?

I'll start, in no particular order:

Sleeping in a cold room when you're all toasty under the duvet
Costa Black Forest hot chocolate
Blankets
Christmas spiced candles
Mulled wine
Bobble hats (especially on ds who is 2 and the cutest cute thing ever to be cute) and scarves
Winter boots
Proper food: cottage pie, stews and baked potatoes, with warm puddings.
Gingerbread
When your cheeks go all freezing when you walk into the warm from the cold
Bonfires
Autumn leaves and their colour
The new hill house starting tomorrow!

Anyone else care to share some loveliness?

Ooh I love Autumn.

The best is going on a chilly walk in the park to see the trees changing colour, then coming home to a warm house and bedding down under a blanket on the sofa.

CarolVordermansBum · 08/10/2020 17:02

Collecting Conkers!

meow1989 · 08/10/2020 17:03

Yes xonkers! And on the theme of shiny brown nuts; roasted chestnuts, yummy!

Boots!
Pumpkin pie.
That ‘cold’ smell in the air with a hint of bonfire

CarolVordermansBum · 08/10/2020 17:06

Ooh I love roasted chestnuts!

I love spider webs that are covered in frost too

CoffeeInAnIV · 08/10/2020 17:07

Basic bitch style, I LOVE autumn.

Ankle boots, bobble hats, scarves with open coats, mini skirts with thick opaque tights, pumpkin, pumpkin spice lattes, spicy scented candles, fleece and brushed cotton bedding, needing to wear slippers at home, the evenings drawing in and being able to get cosy earlier, deep deep red lipsticks (MAC Diva is my favourite), reading while the rain lashes at the window, the crisp morning air, the trees changing colour...

Ugh, love it 🍁

Having our log burner on ( it's on now)
Fresh weather.
Hot.puddings with cold custard.
Putting the thick duvet on the bed and putting the summer one away

meow1989 · 08/10/2020 17:29

I just thought of another: my cats winter coats, they look so fluffy and silly.

Another Autumn lover.

quirkychick · 08/10/2020 17:41

Mmm, warming, autumn food - I tried a new recipe for chicken in rustic garlic gravy, yesterday. We'll be doing that one again (not breathing over anyone, just as well we have masks Smile).
Frosty mornings, misty mornings, spiders webs with dew, beautiful autumn leaves, blankets in the sofa, woolly jumpers, coats, jackets and boots. Fairy lights, red wine, chocolate, someone was selling hot, caramelised almonds the other day.

Beachhuts90 · 08/10/2020 17:48

@quirkychick could you please share that recipe?

MayDayHelp · 08/10/2020 17:51

Magic mushrooms

Big snuggly coats

Bonfire night is ok ish. Other than that I'm looking forward to April when it's getting lighter and maybe nicer weather. But where does everyone get all these nice cold weather clothes that are mentioned on these threads? A big coat and bobble hat makes me look like a cross between Nora Batty and Benny from crossroads. I literally can't find anything that actually keeps cold and wet out, doesn't make you feel smothered and looks ok.

DipSwimSwoosh · 08/10/2020 18:27

Yes to running.
Also, early morning swims are now all about the sunrises, and the water is nice and cold.

Halloween baking sets, Bake off, early nights, gingerbread cake wax melts, Halloween decorations, Strictly, bedtime brew, dark nail varnish, cats on laptops...

RachelRosie · 08/10/2020 18:37

I love Autumn, its my favourite season. My 3 yo DD has been bringing me back a pocket full of conkers each day from nursery and it warms my heart!

User4152790 · 08/10/2020 18:38

Mist clinging close to the ground in the mornings before it burns off

Apple crumble

Big scarves

Crisp mornings

Walking with a cup of coffee in the chill

Cost dark evenings with the fire lit and candles burning

Murmurations

Fat little squirrels

Great British Bake Off

Rain on the window when you go to sleep

My cat’s luxurious, fluffy winter pelt

Putting the ponies in their heavyweight rugs so they’re all tucked up like duvets

Apple picking at the local farm

quirkychick · 08/10/2020 18:44

@Beachhuts90 this is the recipe www.seasonsandsuppers.ca/rustic-chicken-garlic-gravy/ from Pinterest. I made a low carb version in the instant pot rather than oven and thickened gravy with arrowroot at the end.

Soundbyte · 08/10/2020 18:51

I love this thread!

Frosty mornings and crunchy leaves
Early mornings with the baby, sat in front of the fire cuddling while it’s still dark outside and the rest of the house is still sleeping
Cats curling up with us in the evening
Controversial one - fireworks in the distance (live on a huge hill and our front windows overlook all across the city)

And pretty much everything everyone else has posted 😊

uka888 · 08/10/2020 19:02

Lovely thread! Anyone got any simple lovely warm autumn recipes?!

meow1989 · 08/10/2020 19:15

Ds and I made a slow cooker beef and sweet potato stew a few xays ago and that was lovely and warming - chuck in onioun, garlic granules, sweet potato, beef, tin of tomatoes, beef and veg stock and some water, i also added a few chilli flakes and it was gorgeously warming.

Toad in the hole with onion gravy is another winter winner!

My kids have grown out of it for the moment but I've really enjoyed taking my 2-3yo nursery class out looking for leaves and conkers.

I love autumn. Love the cooler days - although would prefer them dry rather than as soggy as it's been last few weeks. Love the fact you can get cosy and you have more time to do indoor things without feeling like you're missing out on the sunshine.
