To find Prince William a bit smug

strawberriesandpecans · 08/10/2020 12:42

I'm sure he means well, it's just that he seems to be lecturing everyone on the environment while he travels by helicopter a lot and has a mansion. Also I just find them quite twee and irritating, particularly at the moment when so many people are struggling. AIBU?

@MangoFeverDream

Prince William is one of those people who uses his hands a lot when he's talking

If a married man put his hand on my waist, I would be appalled. You can use your hands to gesticulate without being a sleaze.

I'm not defending him but I wouldn't be jealous and jump to conclusions if I saw pictures of my DH like that

Oh yes, your DH goes out partying with the lads while you are at home with the kids. Gets drunk and snapped being inappropriate with a young model at least ten years younger. Sure you wouldn’t be concerned ....

The media likes to make a drama out of nothing

He got off easy imo.

Prince William is genuinely devoted

I showed you actual photos of him being less than devoted. A decent man would not humiliate his wife like that.

I'd say after the upset his own fathers antics caused due to an affair it would be the last thing PW would do to his own family

I find that cheaters often have parents who were cheaters. I think there are studies that show that effect as well. Perhaps the real problem, according to the RF, is that Diana didn’t accept something that was totally normal to them.

Whatever
PerseverancePays · 09/10/2020 22:03

Millionaires on benefits. Why on Earth do we tolerate it? They haven’t earned their wealth, it’s all been land grabbed over the centuries. They need a serious overhaul!

eddiemairswife · 09/10/2020 22:30

They've both been to University and have degrees. I think it's a pity they aren't working in their degree areas.

stairway · 09/10/2020 22:35

The history of Art? A totally useful degree

TheKeatingFive · 09/10/2020 22:48

Wills switched to geography Grin

Gingerkittykat · 09/10/2020 23:35

There has been a massive PR campaign to turn his public image from lazy to someone who can do no wrong.

I think the most cynical PR stunt was having 5 year old Charlote deliver home made pasta to pensioners at the beginning of the pandemic. George was known as the monarchy saver, I believe. The kids are very photogenic so wheeling them out on occasion does wonders for the image.

Wills even looked bored listening to his own wedding sermon, I don't think he would choose the royal life.

Harry has done the right thing by escaping it all.

Autumngoldleaf · 09/10/2020 23:52

He looks pained and trapped. Maybe he's longing for the freedom Harry has.

Rosebel · 09/10/2020 23:55

Yes they use their children to get more popularity, despite their claims that they just want them to have "normal" childhoods.
This really annoys me because Harry and Megan were accused of this with Archie, who's barely been seen bur it's alright for Wills and Kate who can do no wrong.
I don't know it reminds me of Diana and Fergie, where Diana could do no wrong and Fergie was always at fault. History repeating itself.

Very useful. I've known a few people with that degree who went to have really interesting careers.
jessstan1 · 10/10/2020 00:13

@dementedma

Actually, I like him. He has grown into the role and comes across well
Yes, he has much grace. He is also very fortunate to have such a lovely wife and children but he obviously knows that.
HollowTalk · 10/10/2020 00:20

@Bubblebu

one of the things which annoys me about Attenborough is that he does not appear to be mentoring anyone from the generation below him - its like a lot of that generation - just keeping all of the limelight exclusively to himself for decades and decades. Hogging it all for themselves.
Which generation is that, then? Virtually all of his generation are dead and most of the rest are in nursing homes. What exactly are they "hogging"?
Janegrey333 · 10/10/2020 00:39

@dementedma

Yes he has. I like him very much. Kate and the children are the perfect family.

He really doesn’t! He looks happy and pleased with his lot.
Janegrey333 · 10/10/2020 00:43

To add:

He certainly looked pained though when his horrible little brother was causing problems - in person - for the RF.

chillicheesebuns · 10/10/2020 03:44

Harry isn't "horrible." Harry's done nothing wrong. It's batshit insane that a young man wanting his own life and to have a job is considered unacceptable simply due to who his father is.

William caused many of the problems between them himself, by leaking negative stories about Harry to the media to distract them from his own bad behaviour, pulling PR stunts to score points, not supporting Harry and his family, and acting generally entitled and like a control freak.

I predict William will destroy the monarchy, not Harry.

GingerScallop · 10/10/2020 03:54

@EvaporatedHour

I find most people in the public eye, royal or not, smug and annoying the way they try to preach about what we should and shouldn't do all the time.
Agreed. Society is now steeped in this voice of the rich and famous culture. I abhor it and it's hypocrisy. Yes they might be criticized if they day nothing but the issue is they don't even acknowledge their positions, privilege or change. They just ask everyone else to. That goes for Royalty and celebrity. And no, wearing "sustainably sourced" clothes and eating organic doesn't quite count. That's what they can afford and good for them but does zilch when you over consume everything else
Lolaloveslemonade · 10/10/2020 04:06

William has lost his wingman that’s for sure.

Without his ‘horrible little brother’ at his side he comes across as smarmy, false and out of touch.
As for his wife, the ‘delivering of food hampers’ during lockdown PR stunt pissed me off.
Twee little hampers containing precious little bags of hand tied biscuits to wealthy country folk of Norfolk near to their estate...
I think she misread the brief.

MangoFeverDream · 10/10/2020 05:38

derxa

You’ve really added to the conversation there 😂

Sorry PW got caught looking like a total sleaze 🤨

Straven123 · 10/10/2020 06:55

I get that they are privileged - but......................so are rich footballers, fashionistas, company ceos, actors, sportsmen/women, landed gentry, tv celebrities, and a million other Brits. Were they all beating a path to do supportive work? Or just clearing off to their second homes by the sea?

Spread the viperish comments fairly guys.

notafanoftheman · 10/10/2020 07:38

Difference is we’re not paying for them through our taxes.

I’m no royal follower and even I have heard the rumors about the queen’s affair. I’d suggest anyone who is a royal follower who hasn’t heard them has their head firmly in the sand.

BathtubGin · 10/10/2020 08:27
@BathtubGin. I think am inheritance came later though- not sure about that. The family business was definitely started when they were living in a semi. Being able to afford private schools doesn’t automatically mean a family is super-wealthy. I know plenty of people with normal lifestyles who send their kids to private schools, sometimes with the help of a well-off relative. It doesn’t mean they have nannies/servants/massive houses, etc.

The Middleton’s are now v. wealthy, but they weren’t in that league when their children were young.
Its didnt.it was a trust fund for education. hers must have been 250,000 just for secondary and times that by siblings and other beneficiaries.

The trust was set up by Kate Middleton's great great grandfather, Francis Martineau Lupton, a wealthy Yorkshire mill owner, who built a huge fortune which he left to his family when he died in 1921.

He owned a mass of property in Leeds-, sponsored the university etc

But all the above examples have made their own success, except for landed gentry. The difference with the Royal Family is that they, their homes, their security, are being paid for by the public.

I like him very much. Kate and the children are the perfect family.

That's how they are portrayed - which is part of the problem imo. I expect there's no such thing as the perfect family in reality.
At least with Harry and Megan you can see they have problems and are more real. Bizarre that Harry gets so much vitriol, and Megan. No doubt racism is a factor.

CounsellorTroi · 10/10/2020 09:26
@MangoFeverDream well Kate doesn't seem the sort who would put up with cheating, she comes across as slightly bossy and dictatorial... in fact William might be a little bit afraid of annoying her!
Do you seriously think she has any real choice but to put up with it?

derxa · 10/10/2020 09:34

But all the above examples have made their own success, except for landed gentry. They have had to work very hard to hang on to what they have got.
At least with Harry and Megan you can see they have problems and are more real.
What an odd insight. Every human being is 'real' with their own fears and worries. You have no idea what is going on in people's heads.
