To give up driving?

So I’ve just finished my lesson and I feel dreadful.
I have now done 7 hours and I honestly feel like giving up.
I struggle to even follow the road, I stall at junctions and even managed to puncture my instructors tyre.
My instructor is lovely, kind and patient but I hate every moment.

Has anyone eventually gotten the hang of it?

Keep going, it will feel like second nature eventually

Dont give up, it took me 2 years of lessons (with a break and recovering from c section)
But i had many many hours and confidence soon come, i was a bag of nerves and wondered how on earth i would ever be able to drive alone.
But actually im less nervous driving on my own than sitting next to an instructor.

Keep at it Flowers

Oh and I forgot

I wouldn't change to automatics.... It limits you massively.
They're more expensive to run.
They are mostly cheaper to run actually.
Many modern cars are only available as autos.
Today's advanced autos can actually be more fuel efficient than manuals and therfore have lower emissions.

I had at least 80 lessons before I passed 2nd time. Don't give up yet.

I have had many lessons over the years I would say 40 hours total stopping and starting in manual car, I used to dred every lesson come back my knuckles used to be white from stressing about stopping, roundabouts, clutch control you name it but I decided after 10 years of being off the road to take up lessons again but go automatic and its completely different I love driving I have had 8 hours and almost test ready.

As some people have said you have only had 7 lessons that really is nothing but for me that dread never went away and I could just never see myself passing in a manual car

I hated driving, said I'd never learn. One lesson it just all clicked, I was like Neo when he becomes "the one" Grin
Love driving.

I had 40 hours of lessons in a manual, plus practice with my dad. I stopped and started lessons for seven years because I just never got the hang of the clutch and gears. My anxiety around driving was through the roof and I used to cry before my lessons.

A few years ago I decided to bite the bullet and take automatic lessons. I passed after four months of weekly lessons and bought a cheap car, which ended up being a total lemon. It was so unreliable I scrapped the car and quit driving for four years.

Last March I bought a decent car and paid for a parking space at my work, which forced me to drive in the busy city centre every day. I didn't even notice my confidence increasing but one day I was driving along with the window down and realised I was enjoying it! I now drive long distances on the motorway, I've done unfamiliar country roads, busy city driving. Keep pushing forward, switch to an auto if you'd prefer (and don't listen to the bullshit people spout about them!) and I promise you'll get there.

amusedbush · 08/10/2020 12:01

(By "last March" I mean March 2019!)

Simonfromharlow · 08/10/2020 12:02

Started learning when I was 17. Kept stopping and starting and finally passed last year at 35! Keep going!

Simonfromharlow · 08/10/2020 12:04

I finally passed in an auto!

Alicatz66 · 08/10/2020 12:25

Definitely drive an automatic..... I don't really like driving much .. but it's sooooo much easier in an auto .. they are great

toffeekiwi · 08/10/2020 19:54

I'm not a fan of autos but I went home for a holiday and hired a car so got an automatic (nearly all hire cars are automatics), I'll never buy a manual car again but I'm glad I can drive one.

IndieTara · 08/10/2020 20:06

Op I didn't pass a test until
I was 26. And it was my 5th attempt!
I'm now 53 and expert...
