I’ve had Loads and they had one be painful. I’m surprised that most other people find them painful.

Depends on the skill of the person doing it. Where the cannula is cited. Plus the size of the cannula

Definitely agree on the skill of the person doing it, the condition of the veins as well as where the cannula is going. Blood tests are on similar lines - depending on the skill level of the tester and the quality of the veins they can be virtually painless or very unpleasant indeed with a lot of bruising.

The first two pictures here are the of the state of my hand after the last cannula inserted a few months ago for about an hour and a half for a quick procedure. The nurse was an animal and wiggled the needle around inside me hitting off bone and God only knows what else in the process. That lasted about 45 seconds before she got a vein deep inside my hand (couldn't get a vein in my arms).

Last picture is my hand today, for swelling comparisons! It was agony getting it in. My legs automatically kicked up in the air with the pain. It just swelled and swelled until it was finally removed. Any slight movement of my hand and it felt like it was hitting off a bone or something. I couldn't use my right hand for a few days and couldn't bend my hand into a fist or move my index finger. It brought tears to my eyes that one. I've had worse.
