To think someone saying they have lost six stone in just over two months

User4647 · 06/10/2020 12:47

Is lying. They haven’t had weight loss surgery or had a baby. I haven’t seen since person since March so can’t say if they have or haven’t lost that weight but surely it’s not possible to lose weight that quickly.

I lost approximately 7 stone in just shy of 4 months. Going from 17st to 9.5. I was eating, maybe not as much but certainly not too little to lose it that quickly. Turned out coming off of contraceptive actually triggered a reaction and i evidently had an infection that cleared itself but left me with long term heart issues. So yes it can happen but can also be because of underlying health issues.

ShatnersWig · 06/10/2020 18:10

I had severe tonsillitis a few years ago, very poorly. I lost a stone in one week.

@User4647

No picture provided and I feel too rude to ask her!
Excessive English politeness here! Grin.

I'd have responded with, "Wow, that's amazing. Well done. Can I see a picture?"

Bikingbear · 06/10/2020 19:01

User maybe you should reply "Wow fantastic, can I see a photo you must be looking fab, what program did you follow"

Op ,If its true I'd love to know what diet they followed, could I drop half that in half the time

ScrapThatThen · 06/10/2020 19:27

It would put the body under huge physiological pressure.

ScrapThatThen · 06/10/2020 19:27

Could she have made a typo or mixed up stone and kg?

Okaro · 06/10/2020 19:48

How did they tell you? By message or was it a general post on social media? If social media then surely someone has asked how? Grin

User4647 · 06/10/2020 20:03

No she definitely means stones. I did ask if she had got confused with kg and she said she hadn’t. It was in a private message where we were talking about how we were etc.

Definitely doable. I have a family member that started at around 350 and lost 70 lbs in 3 months.

Emmelina · 07/10/2020 00:30

I think if they genuinely dropped that much weight that quickly, they were eating just enough to stop them from passing out.
Or (if the change isn’t noticeable) they’re trying to flog you magic coffee or Puice Jlus.

Notfeelinggreattoday · 07/10/2020 10:49

@whirlwindwallaby what do you mean you need more to maintain a higher weight ??

whirlwindwallaby · 07/10/2020 11:08
@whirlwindwallaby what do you mean you need more to maintain a higher weight ??
If you go onto a bmr calculator and put in same stats, age, height, just change your weight, then it says you need more calories. That's just to maintain, not taking into account any activity.

whirlwindwallaby · 07/10/2020 11:14

www.diabetes.co.uk/bmr-calculator.html
35 years old, 165cm, 50kg =1270
35 years old, 165cm, 95kg =1686
50 years old, 165cm, 95kg =1621

Bikingbear · 07/10/2020 14:11

Whirlwind

What that shows is someone eating exactly the same at 35 and 50, is consuming an excess 65 calories per day multiple that by 365 days, divide by 3600 calories per pound and that same individual has just gained 6.6lbs in a year.
Do that for a few years and you've gained a few stone. It's called Middle Age Spread!

Someone can very easily gain 4 or 5 stone over a decade without having disordered eating.

BensonStabler · 07/10/2020 14:19

I lost three stone in a couple months but it was due to severe hospitalsed illness.

I had people telling me I wow you are looking well! Hmm

I hope they're ok.

whirlwindwallaby · 07/10/2020 14:28

Someone can very easily gain 4 or 5 stone over a decade without having disordered eating. It's disordered eating if it is causing health problems like obesity, if you don't make small changes to stop it affecting your health once you realise you are no longer at a healthy weight. I was eating what looked like a healthy diet but at a small calorie deficit that led me to gradually lose weight until I was a stone underweight. It was affecting my health so it was disordered.

AriesTheRam · 07/10/2020 14:34

I reckon it was a 6lb typo Grin

FlatScreenTV01 · 07/10/2020 14:37

Would you manage to lose it in just over 8 weeks rather than in 22?
Notreallyhappy · 07/10/2020 16:13

Extremely heavy to start with ,then a low carb / keto diet could do it.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 07/10/2020 17:54

I watched a thing on Lad Bible today. A very overweight guy went on a fasting diet for 50 days, was only drinking water. He lost 44lb.

If your relative honestly thinks they've lost 84lb in 60 days I'd say yeah right pull the other one.

Well done to you and I can imagine that loosing that mount of weight in the time scale is possible, really hard going, but possible

It's the amount and speed that are making people question the OPs friend, they are either exaggerating the loss or the short time frame, or they are a lot heavier than Op thought they were to start with.
