To think someone saying they have lost six stone in just over two months

Is lying. They haven’t had weight loss surgery or had a baby. I haven’t seen since person since March so can’t say if they have or haven’t lost that weight but surely it’s not possible to lose weight that quickly.

@Butternutsqoosh

Maybe they are mixing up stone and kilos? 🤷🏼‍♀️
I'm sure that must be it.
SchrodingersImmigrant · 06/10/2020 14:56

It's possible. One stone is about 6kg so it may have been a mix up

peachgreen · 06/10/2020 14:58

Hmm. I lost 5 stone in 3 months once and I wasn't even trying (just heartbroken and not eating). I had a lot to lose though.

LemmysAceCard · 06/10/2020 15:00

No, i went through the misery diet last year and in 8 weeks i lost 2.5 stones, by not eating and exercising like mad. No way could i have lost that amount of weight and i was about 4 stone overweight when it started.

bloodywhitecat · 06/10/2020 15:03

DP recently lost a lot of weight in a very short space of time but he was suffering from malnutrition.

Justwingingmotherhood · 06/10/2020 15:10

Doubt it

Zaphodsotherhead · 06/10/2020 15:15

I was training for a half marathon, so running 5/6 miles a day six days a week. I also had fair bit of weight to lose, so cut my calories down to 1500 per day (yes, it was too low and my eating became very disordered). I lost four stone but over six months.

Any faster and I would frown at it.

FilledSoda · 06/10/2020 15:24

So what's the background?
Assuming they are lying I suppose laying the groundwork for some snake oil mlm diet could be a motive.
It's a bit of a stealth boast gone wrong though if people are assuming it's either untrue or the individual is seriously unwell.

Noshowlomo · 06/10/2020 15:27

Maybe if they’ve taken a lot of speed?

Dashel · 06/10/2020 15:36

The heavier you are the more calories you burn. On my 600lb life the doctor will say that the patients have been not sticking to their diet as they have only lost a few pounds in two months so apparently to maintain their weight they are taking in 3-4000 calories.

You can loose 5 pounds in water weight by cutting down on salt and carbs but it does seem a lot to loose in a short time.

steff13 · 06/10/2020 15:38

I belong to some Keto groups on FB, and people on there regularly lose 40-50 lbs a month. It's not the norm, but it's not impossible. And as a PP mentioned, the doctor on My 600-lb Life generally asks someone to lose 30-40 lbs in the month before surgery.

AbsentmindedWoman · 06/10/2020 15:42

Totally doable, albeit extreme. And even if you don't believe them, just tell them how amazing they've done.

Yes, definitely congratulate this person on their clearly disordered eating Hmm

Christ.

VivaMiltonKeynes · 06/10/2020 15:48

I know someone who has lost 6 stone since March and she had weight loss surgery - a gastric sleeve.

whirlwindwallaby · 06/10/2020 15:50

You'd have to have disordered eating to be 4 or 5 stone overweight to start with.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 06/10/2020 15:55

Hmmm I'd be surprised unless they were extremely overweight to begin with. I mean I was obese and lost 8 stone in 10 months (coming up to my years anniversary of maintaining) and it went very fast in the first couple of months. The more I had to lose the easier it was but in two months it wasn't more than 2.5 stone.

So yes if very overweight but I'd be more inclined they weren't entirely being truthful but losing weight can be very hard and if they need to focus on false positives in a rough period then I can understand but shouldn't be telling others. So for example when I was a pound off losing 4 stone i stalled for 4 weeks so i told myself i had lost 4 stone and just needed to get to number 5. It kept me going

Not necessarily, someone 40+ could easily have gained 4 or 5 stone very slowly over their adult life. Gaining 3 pounds per year over a 20 year period is 4.25 stone.
Notfeelinggreattoday · 06/10/2020 16:02

If so ask them to send me the diet please Smile

DBML · 06/10/2020 16:06

I’ve just lost 29 pounds in 50 days.

Cut my calories to 1200 a day and do at least an hour of cardio at the gym, working my heart at 140bpm every single day.

So I highly doubt 6 stone in 2 months.

OwlBeThere · 06/10/2020 16:15

I lost 3st in a month once when I had hyperemesis, my kidneys were also failing though. I wouldn’t really recommend it...

Not necessarily, someone 40+ could easily have gained 4 or 5 stone very slowly over their adult life. Gaining 3 pounds per year over a 20 year period is 4.25 stone. But you would have to consume more and more calories to continue gaining at the same rate, as you need more just to maintain a higher weight.

SpaceOP · 06/10/2020 16:17

Surely this is when you say, 'Go on then, send us a picture?"

shinynewapple2020 · 06/10/2020 16:25

Does sound unlikely , and definitely not healthy . I could understand if they were ill . 6 stone in 6 months , yes .'

Of course you wouldn't ! It's very easy to put on a stone or two - a takeaway once week you didn't have before , an extra glass of wine with your dinner and a piece of cake with your afternoon cuppa. Do that for a few years and you would put on 4 stone easy .

No your probably wouldn't, your metabolism slows as you age. And as people gain they become less active.

Very easy to gain 4 or 5 stone slowly over time. Even going on holiday once a year many gain a few pounds.
Slowly gained weight is actually very hard to loose.

No picture provided and I feel too rude to ask her!
