To think someone saying they have lost six stone in just over two months

Is lying. They haven’t had weight loss surgery or had a baby. I haven’t seen since person since March so can’t say if they have or haven’t lost that weight but surely it’s not possible to lose weight that quickly.

If I lost weight that quickly I'd be checking there wasn't something wrong.....

Sundries · 06/10/2020 13:11

Does she just mean she dumped a tiny, useless DP?

Hmm yes that does sound quite unlikely, 2 stone in two months is definitely do-able if you were doing keto. But 6 stone? Sounds like they are just exaggerating - or had no idea what their starting weight was and estimated it to be more that it actually was!

SunniCameHomeWithAVengeance · 06/10/2020 13:13

My first port of call would be to a doctor as rapid weight loss is a worrying sign

ChaChaCha2012 · 06/10/2020 13:15

I've seen it happen with someone in a diabetes support group. He was so massive he could barely stand up. He stopped attending the group shortly after, and from what I've seen on SM he's sadly put all the weight back on

bumblingbovine49 · 06/10/2020 13:18

@TheQueef

No. Unless something drastic like surgery or illness. That would be a third of their body.
I lost 6 stone in about six months once . On the cambridge diet. 500cals a day
SchrodingersImmigrant · 06/10/2020 13:22

There is BIG difference between 6 stone in 6 months and 6 stone in less than 2.5 months.

LindaEllen · 06/10/2020 13:23

A few years ago, I was incredibly overweight, and started eating healthily and exercising - and I lost a stone in the first month. It slowed down after that, as a lot of what you lose initially is just water weight, or 'bloat' rather than actual fat loss.

I was eating perfectly well, and exercising most days - so goodness knows what someone would have to do to treble that weight loss and then keep it up for two months.

I mean, perhaps if they were 60 stone to begin with, but they weren't .. so I'm calling BS here. Or if it's true, they need to see a doctor, as something must be wrong.

Losingthechubrub · 06/10/2020 13:26

I have a lot to lose and when I'm motivated, I can lose six stones in six months without starving myself or exercising excessively. That's still pretty quick though, and I wouldn't want to do it any faster than that.

Titsinknicks · 06/10/2020 13:30

Not even with surgery. I think I did three stone in two months

SprogletsMum · 06/10/2020 13:30

There's no way that you could lose 6 stone in 2 months. I'm massively overweight and fasting to lose weight. I lost 10lb the first week and now almost a month I'm close to 2 stone lost but it slows down week on week.

peonyblossom · 06/10/2020 13:30

I've lost 3 stone in 3 months just calorie counting and walking walking walking! I did have 5 stone to lose though, which is a third of my body weight. I thought that was a lot! It's coming off much slower now though, 1-2lb a week like more normal weight loss.

2 stone to go....

I suppose it's possible to lose that much depending on how much you have to lose! If you're very overweight it does drop off quickly to start with.

Lockdownfatigue · 06/10/2020 13:33

Nope. Even fasting would lose about a pound a day after the initial loss.

amusedbush · 06/10/2020 13:33

I lost three stone in 10 weeks on a very low calorie meal replacement diet. I know someone who had weight loss surgery and they have lost ten stone in a year, having been 27 stone at their heaviest.

I just don’t believe that someone could lose so much weight in two months. Unless they have a serious illness, it’s just not possible.

Bouncingbelle · 06/10/2020 13:36

I had about 5 stone to lose and lost a stone in just under 4 weeks on an 800 calorie a day diet

TyroBurningDownTheCloset · 06/10/2020 13:40

It seems unlikely. I lost five in four months through basically not eating at all; to shift even more in half the time I'd have to have been exercising non-stop while eating nothing. My GP was quite concerned and insisted on blood tests to make sure there were no underlying health issues.

AriettyHomily · 06/10/2020 13:41

Depends entirely how big in the first place, exante or lighter life or similar, possible.

Not sustainable.

Why doubt them though?

Scaraffito · 06/10/2020 13:41

Unless there starting weight was exceptionally high, there is no way to safely lose that amount in 2 months, not sure it's even possible. Either way not something to aspire to, slow and steady wins the race and all that.

romeolovedjulliet · 06/10/2020 13:47

is this a relative, friend or someone you know of ?

CurlsandCurves · 06/10/2020 13:50

I remember one guy on ‘The Biggest Loser’ lost 2 stone in either 1 or 2 weeks.

But he was over 30 stone to start with and it’s well known how hard they pushed the contestants on that show.

Bikingbear · 06/10/2020 13:51

@ChronicallyCurious

I’d be a bit Confused but I guess maybe if they had a lot to lose?

I went from 12 stone to 8.10 in three months.

How did you do it? I'd love to drop 3 stone for SantaSmile

Op I'd doubt someone could loose that amount of weight in that amount of time.

JustCallMeGriffin · 06/10/2020 13:51

I was 16 stone far too heavy for my 5ft frame when my gallbladder (unsurprisingly) starting attacking me. In the run up to having it removed I was living on tepid water and 2 weetabix a day...because literally everything else triggered agony.

Despite this dangerously low calorie intake and my at least 6 stone excess weight I only lost 3 stone in 2 months. Admittedly I wasn't exercising...but honestly I think I would have passed out had I tried with just 136 calories keeping me alive daily.

Short of liposuction I honestly can't imagine what you'd need to do to lose double that weight in the same time.

NotTerfNorCis · 06/10/2020 13:53

Maybe they confused stones with kg?

DeciduousPerennial · 06/10/2020 13:57

It depends how little they ate during that time, it’s just thermodynamics 🤷🏻‍♀️

Either way, if true, it’s likely that they feel fairly ropey as a result.

Iamthewombat · 06/10/2020 13:58

Were they doing the Tour de France, or dragging laden sleds across the arctic?

Can’t let this pass by unacknowledged! 🤣
