To think someone saying they have lost six stone in just over two months

Is lying. They haven’t had weight loss surgery or had a baby. I haven’t seen since person since March so can’t say if they have or haven’t lost that weight but surely it’s not possible to lose weight that quickly.

A friend is doing the Cambridge Diet and she lost 3 stone in 2 months, and then 5 stone in 4 months overall.

It is a tough diet though, I think it is around 800 cals a day and they can only have "product" which is soup, shake, or bar.

Nottherealslimshady · 06/10/2020 14:01

I'd say it's possible. I've never been obese but I can lose a stone in a week if I have to. You just have to burn a tonne of calories and not eat many. Someone obese may be running at 3500 calories a day, all they have to do is burn what they eat. And you burn more calories during exercise the more you weight. Plus, you continue to burn more calories throughout the day when you're exercising, and if you plan your meals at right times then you can make it so your body doesn't store the fat. You can take natural supplements that increase your metabolism etc. You also lose the volume of waste you're usually carrying round, and when you eat healthier you store less water, you dont realise how much but I could put on 2lbs over night by eating a salty dinner. Its doable. But shouldn't be done long term. You should have breaks where you eat more calories or your metabolism will ground to a halt and your body will start taking nutrient from other parts of your body.

Totally doable, albeit extreme. And even if you don't believe them, just tell them how amazing they've done.

FilledSoda · 06/10/2020 14:04

I'd be quite concerned about them .
Are they alarmed by it ?
If it's a lie it's a weird thing to lie about .

User4647 · 06/10/2020 14:06

No they seem quite happy about it.

I've seen it once or twice when I attended SW it would be a man already very heavy who had never dieted before though never regular members.
Disheartened the rest of us and continually win slimmer of the week fruit basket!

Lockdownhairdontcare · 06/10/2020 14:10

Even having not seen someone in months six stone would be noticeable.

I started at 16st, cut back to to under 1200kcal a day, 6 sessions of intense exercise plus increased walking. I am losing on a average 2/4lbs a week.

QueenOllie · 06/10/2020 14:11

Christ. Damn thyroid... it's taken me 2 months to lose 1 stone and that's on 1200 cals a day at 5ft 10...

bitheby · 06/10/2020 14:12

Have they got their imperial and metric measurements mixed up?

StormBaby · 06/10/2020 14:15

Both me and my DH did this, just before we met, through the stress of our respective partners cheating on us with a mutual friend. We hadn’t even met yet so don’t remember each other before the weight loss. I lost 5 stone and he lost 7 stone in about 12 weeks.

TheQueef · 06/10/2020 14:22

I dieted for many many years and then illness and that lost my weight.
I had to have complan the lot so it was starvation.
Still left with all my excess skin and empty boobs now the fat has gone, losing fast is no good and the weight of the skin stops you from being a healthy weight.

SilenceOfThePrams · 06/10/2020 14:23

I can lose a stone in a week if I put my mind to it (I’m very overweight). But then it goes back on again the next week. With interest. I can see how you could maintain that loss with someone policing every mouthful and a personal trainer to keep the exercise up.

Other possibility though is massive amounts of water retention and suddenly starting diuretics. That can have a massive impact if the fluids really built up dangerously first.

But I’d be more suspicious that they’ll be trying to flog Lighter Life or Juice Plus or something once you ask them how they did it...

ViciousJackdaw · 06/10/2020 14:24

I once lost 1.5 stone in three weeks but I had peritonitis, almost kicked the bucket, and it left my arms looking slightly saggy so I dread to think what 6 stone in 2 months would do!

The cynic in me wonders if she's leading up to some MLM weight loss shite.

FrangipaniBlue · 06/10/2020 14:24

I reckon they've had surgery and are just lying about that but have actually lost the weight.......

I know someone who claims her figure is down to "lifestyle" is it fuck, she does zero exercise and we all know her husband paid for her tummy tuck and boob job 😂

ViciousJackdaw · 06/10/2020 14:24

Great minds Silence...

CeibaTree · 06/10/2020 14:27

@QueenOllie

Christ. Damn thyroid... it's taken me 2 months to lose 1 stone and that's on 1200 cals a day at 5ft 10...
Have you tried low carb/keto? I have an underactive thyroid and tried to unsuccessfully lose weight for years calorie counting, but since I started low carbing I have lost weight (what feels like) effortlessly :)
northbacchus · 06/10/2020 14:28

I’d be concerned about disordered eating,

sugarbum · 06/10/2020 14:28

I can't see how. I'm about 5 or 6 stones overweight (I'm an 18-20 for context) but theres no way, even on a VCLD or keto that I could lose that amount in 2 months. I know many, many folk who have also followed those plans, and none of them have lost that much in just 8 weeks.

Leimarel · 06/10/2020 14:30

If you haven't actually seen her, perhaps it's just wishful thinking on her part?

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 06/10/2020 14:31

My uncle did, he has cancer his prognosis is not good. I don't think it's possible to genuinely lose that much weight that quickly without a serious underlying illness or gastric band surgery

RefriedBeanz · 06/10/2020 14:34

You can on keto. I went from a size 18/20 to a 10/12 in the space of 4 months. Two months from starting, I’d lost just under 32kg, almost 5 stone. I wasn’t even being particular strict with it so it is possible to lose more.

QueenOllie · 06/10/2020 14:40

@CeibaTree I have but I can't maintain it long term

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 06/10/2020 14:40

They're not selling 'magic coffee' on Facebook by any chance are they?!

NewlyGranny · 06/10/2020 14:44

Souds like surgery was involved - liposuction, gastric band or stomach sleeving by the sound of it. Drastic measures.

cherrybun01 · 06/10/2020 14:47

my partner lost 10 pounds in one week by going to the gym every day and only eating tuna and rice in a day.

grim and not sustainable long term but is possible.

Butternutsqoosh · 06/10/2020 14:51

Maybe they are mixing up stone and kilos? 🤷🏼‍♀️
