Is this mean?

Single parent work full-time with no help for childcare. Would it be mean to book annual leave whilst DD is at school so I can be on my own and do absolutely nothing but watch Netflix and eat junk food?!

Normally save all leave to use in school holidays but I am absolutely burnt out and dream of free time! Working from home now so can still work during holidays without having to book holiday clubs like before (but would mean a boring day for DD occupying herself whilst I’m in the study).

YABU- Save all holiday to spend quality time with DD.
YANBU- book some leave for myself!

Book at least 2 days!

twobambinos · 05/10/2020 15:22

Yanbu you need to recharge your batteries too. Have a lovely time

LigPatin · 05/10/2020 15:22

Can you cover her childcare during school holidays?
If so, absolutely book the leave.

StrawberryWhatsUp · 05/10/2020 15:22

I can't about this loud enough... YANBU. Take a break!

StrawberryWhatsUp · 05/10/2020 15:23

Shout*!

katy1213 · 05/10/2020 15:24

Not mean at all. Have some quality time with yourself! Netflix and junk food is a bit of a waste, though - couldn't you try to get out for nice lunches or days out? Especially if you could fix a playdate for after school!

pepsicolagirl · 05/10/2020 15:24

I'm self employed and pre lockdown would bookmark 1 day a fortnight AT LEAST to take myself off to the cinema or get deliveroo or just go out and window shop. Not selfish, you cannot pour from an empty cup

canigooutyet · 05/10/2020 15:26

Go for it. It will benefit you both immensely.
When I needed it I would book random days for al just for a duvet day. I'd also tack on an extra day or 2 when we went on holiday just to be home alone.

TheChosenTwo · 05/10/2020 15:27

I’d be worried that I’d book a couple of days off just in time for my dcs school to have an outbreak of coronavirus and have to shut for a while therefore ruining my days off Grin
Other than that, go for it. I dream of having a day at home without my children however I work in a school so when I’m at home they are too!!
Enjoy 😊

Merryoldgoat · 05/10/2020 15:28

Jesus no! I’m planning to do this soon and I’m not a single parent!

Absolutely fine - we all need recharge time now and again.

puddled2 · 05/10/2020 15:29

Definitely take a breakFlowers

unmarkedbythat · 05/10/2020 15:29

Not at all mean, you need to look after yourself to be able to look after others don't you? Have a lovely day!

Asterion · 05/10/2020 15:30

You've got to look after yourself, so you can look after others. Book those days and revel in them!

canigooutyet · 05/10/2020 15:32

TheChosen
Cannot think of the name, but a lot of schools do give staff 2 days off a year for discretionary reasons. Before putting in a duvet day request I spoke to the HT and the added bonus is that loads of notice isn't needed!!

Fishfingersandwichplease · 05/10/2020 15:37

Absolutely not mean at all .....l dream about having time to myself to do nothing but husband works locally and pops home for a cuppa or breakfast whenever he gets chance!

BathshebaAndGabriel · 05/10/2020 15:37

Do it. Well deserved break (of sorts!)

Loving the fact you have 100% YANBU.

Keeva2017 · 05/10/2020 15:40

@superstar84 has got it spot on. One day isn’t enough, seriously. You need time for your body and your mind to switch to relax mode. Take advantage of not needing your leave for school holidays and take what you can.

You’d be unreasonable not to!

SardineJam · 05/10/2020 15:40

I do this as well for my own sanity especially when the weekends are busy and I get no me time. Do it and don't feel guilty about it 🥂

MiddleClassProblem · 05/10/2020 15:42

How old is DD?

If book a day or two regardless x

MrsToothyBitch · 05/10/2020 15:44

Do it. You need it! Enjoy yourself!

marmite79 · 05/10/2020 15:47

Yanbu! Go for it!

IntermittentParps · 05/10/2020 15:52

Have a break!
Who voted YAU? Confused

IntermittentParps · 05/10/2020 15:52

*YABU

Florencex · 05/10/2020 15:54

So long as you can cover the school holidays, absolutely you are entitled to time for yourself.

Sexnotgender · 05/10/2020 15:55

Do it! But don’t just slob around, go to an amazing restaurant and drink wine and relax.
