Just found out that Billie Piper doesn't share social/political views as her ex H

I just assumed that she shared similar views as that silly man. I am not sure what attracted her to him; she seems pretty level headed and clued up.

I googled her as I saw a movie featuring her and I wanted to watch it but wouldn't have watched it if she was anything like that Lawrence/Laurence, or whatever he's called. I really dislike the man and his face, and unfairly, I had lumbered Bilie with him despite them being separated.

But I can't imagine marrying and having kids with someone who is on a completely different wavelength on such important issues.

I guess there's no aibu but had me reflect if he was always like this/only become like what he is after the divorce.

I would hate to parent with someone with views like him. I would be worried what he's teaching my children all types of intolerance. Plus he's just not very bright.

Also, even as a bleeding heart leftie myself, I’d far, far rather live in a country where the voice of the Right could be heard. My choice of reading material and my close friendship circles already put me at risk of living in an echo chamber. It’s vitally important for me to hear voices from the Far Left and the Right and indeed the Far Right or else how can I know where my own compass lies?

Theworldisfullofgs · 04/10/2020 18:40

I think he has turned into a complete and utter knob to get attention. When he realized he would never be as successful or as talented as his ex wife. His ego couldn't cope.

It's all grifting.

SquashedSpring · 04/10/2020 18:40

@Russellbrandshair

Have you noticed how much uglier he's got in recent years too? He's the physical embodiment of that Dahl/Twits thing about ugly thoughts making you look ugly

I cackled at this because it’s SPOT ON! it like the intolerance and racism is seeping out of his pores affecting his face!

I think LF is a dick, but attributing 'ugly' looks to ugly thoughts was shitty when Dahl wrote it and is just as shitty now.

Dahl may not have written that all ugly people have ugly thoughts, but it sows the seed that there is a connection. Just look at the way that the film industry constantly presents people with facial differences as the bad/evil.

derxa · 04/10/2020 18:41

but once again, Black People are told what to do, think and treated differently. Yes that must be bloody annoying

MitziK · 04/10/2020 18:41

@Smileyaxolotl1

rousette Yes fair point- I thought you meant you didn’t realise why she was mentioned at all.

The singing career does seem to be a rich white male privilege thing....others such as Alexander Armstrong have done similar.

In the case of AA, it's justified as he was a choral scholar, so started off as essentially a professional singer from a child.
NellyJames · 04/10/2020 18:46

@BlueisthenewGrey, yes, there was a black woman on twitter saying she agreed with LF. She said it felt as though Sainsbury’s were giving her a patronising pat on the head. She said she’d be horrified if her work place introduced a space where black colleagues could meet.
I’d be interested to hear how non white staff feel about this. The celebration of BHM being an entirely separate thing.

LakieLady · 04/10/2020 18:46

He believes that people are people and shouldn’t be judged on skin colour

You hear that a lot, almost invariably from white people. Black people in white majority countries are judged on their skin colour every goddamn day.

carreterra · 04/10/2020 18:48

@Gancanny
No, it's Carreterra, not Lozza, don't share his views. Just that so many MNers are piling in to him !!

HeresMe · 04/10/2020 18:49

but once again, Black People are told what to do, think and treated differently.

But having such things as black history month enforces these things

Aridane · 04/10/2020 18:49

I don't think we can know if her views are different. I don't believe she has ever shared her political views with us

Hell no - Piper has been unabashed in sharing her political views. Somewhat different to those of Fox

She was firmly against the Torres getting re elected

DoTheNextRightThing · 04/10/2020 18:50

He’s probably got worse with time. Very possible that's why they broke up, when she realised he’s a dickhead.

Aridane · 04/10/2020 18:51

Certainly doesn’t mince her words!

MitziK

Yes to be fair to 'Xander' he can actually sing, although I do find him a tad annoying.

Lozza can't. His singing is enough to drive me to drink 😂

Spiderbaby8 · 04/10/2020 18:53

I don't like the woke thing that is happening but I don't have a tonne of sympathy for LF, except when I think it was equity came after him and obviously any threats he has gotten are completely out of order.

I think the thing with LF is that he thinks any push back is cancelling. Like sharing Rebecca Fronts private message because she dared to unfollow him. A friend thinking you are a twat isn't cancelling. A union publicly denouncing you, which could end your career on the other hand is a problem.

I stand corrected!
noodlezoodle · 04/10/2020 18:53

It's hard to take his complaints of being cancelled seriously when he keeps popping up all over the bloody place.

Smellbellina · 04/10/2020 18:54

I already hate Sainsbury’s and their corporate virtue signalling to boost sales isn’t going to change my mind. Black History Month is a shit idea to begin with.

This is also an excellent point;

We need to stop shouting racist every five minutes because it’s losing it’s intensity as a word. Having doubts about segregating staff at Sainsbury’s in the basis of ethnicity is not automatically a racist thought. A lot of us remember racial segregation in the 20th century and are worried about where this may lead, no matter how well intentioned.

NellyJames · 04/10/2020 18:54

@LakieLady, oh yes, he’s without doubt spouting his ‘all lives matter’ tosh from a position of huge, wide ranging privilege. Very much like everyone else who posts on FB that All Lives Matter.
However, I’m not convinced he’s wrong to call Sainsbury’s out on their safe space for black colleagues tweet. Especially having read the responses by non white tweeters.

And TBH, my own liberal white privilege would have lead me not to question it until I read their and his tweet and the replies. Which is why I’m becoming more and more conscious of the need to broaden my news and current affairs input and avoid the echo chamber.

Aridane · 04/10/2020 18:55

I think Black History Month is a fantastic idea!

Stripesnomore · 04/10/2020 18:55

Both of them are rich, so neither of them believe in equality. It’s a bit pointless quibbling over which of them is more committed to inequality than the other.

Warsawa31 · 04/10/2020 19:01

Have we always celebrated black history month in the U.K.? I know it was an American thing but I never really heard it here before this year. I guess raising awareness of it has worked for me. Best not to get whipped into a frenzy either way - Everyone has their own opinion - and that should be cherished. He disagrees with how most parts of society are going about trying to bring in equality - the trouble is he doesn't put any alternatives across, I agree with him that we should look past skin colour - but right now it seems to be a barrier for BAME people? So it wouldn't be fair to do that. On the out her hand when will it be fair to do it ? What's the end point we are working towards?

Side note Morgan Freeman hates black history month - he makes some great points around it.

BoudiccasBoudoir · 04/10/2020 19:01

I bet my ex loves him. Again ex. For a good reason. They start off agreeing with you, then gradually chop away. Then they use the break up and family courts etc. As an excuse to become fully fledged hateful racist bigoted misogynistic bastards. Was it always there? Maybe. But now it is out in the open. They aren't bothering hide that shit anymore. Then comes the hand tattoos and the change of career (music album any one?) maybe a sports car (but in LFs case at least not a incredibly young gf) and you have white man mid life crisis bingo.

ChaChaCha2012 · 04/10/2020 19:03

Both of them are rich, so neither of them believe in equality.

You can be rich and still believe in equality. In social democracy equality refers to equality of opportunity, everyone having the opportunity to succeed (access to healthcare, education etc), not equality of outcome (everyone having exactly the same).

Stripesnomore · 04/10/2020 19:03

‘Have we always celebrated black history month in the U.K.?‘

For many decades. The woman who started it was cancelled for transphobia.
