It’s almost like some people on here are desperately wanting another lockdown. The virus is not going to go away. This is no way to live. Lots of people have been tested in big groups ( meat processing factories, students)and they are not aware that they have covid and have no symptoms. For most people this is not a serious disease and most recover. Some may have ‘long Covid’ but post viral fatigue symptoms are also linked to other viruses. It’s treated on here like if you get covid then it’s a death sentence! Some posters have truly lost perspective.
We are trashing the economy and the well being, particularly of young people, for nothing. What about the self employed and those working in the arts hospitality and leisure? They will not survive much more of this.
My elderly parents are heartily sick of not seeing anyone or going anywhere or doing any of the activities they enjoy. They cannot believe how fearful younger people are. Realistically they have limited time left. They want to truly live not just ‘stay alive’
I have lived through 3 redundancies ( my partners) which were far more stressful than worrying about a virus that may not even make me ill. I feel like that a lot of people urging this lockdown do so from privileged positions of high income, a nice house to work from home in, a garden, resources for children to learn at home, possibly a more secure public sector job ( like myself, I have been better off through lockdown)
Life feels joyless and pointless. We can’t celebrate life events or mourn the dead properly. We can’t be sociable with each other and now with masks smiles are hidden. I worry about young children’s development when all strangers are to be avoided and considered infectious! No one smiles much any more and if they do the smiles are hidden by masks. Humans are social animals.
The nhs may have been protected but many are now in huge waiting lists for operations which can affect the quality of life. Cancer diagnoses and treatments have been postponed. Primary health care is a shambles.
And yet.... so many on here want draconian rules to shut everything down again and use the police force and huge fines to control everyone. I despair. Hide away and ‘stay safe’ if you want but don’t impose it on the rest of us.
I realise that what I have said will be controversial to many but this is my opinion and what ever arguments you throw at me won’t change my mind. My extended family and most of my friends feel the same as me. Maybe we are the silent majority heartily sick of the whole lockdown and ever-changing rules. I am working in a school so I guess am at risk and I have some underlying conditions which put me at the higher end of the risk scale but I am not breaking any of the rules ( rule of 6 ) etc. But I am heartily sick of it all to be honest. I think the lockdown hysteria has gone to far. We should make our own risk assessments according to our own circumstances.
