To feel SO mad over a printer

Shamrocksunshine · 03/10/2020 15:51

Bought a new HP printer for 60 pounds from Argos. Comes with instant ink for three months, which is IRONIC because i can’t even get three minutes of ink, let alone three months.

It just WILL NOT connect to my wifi. Done all the usual trouble shooting. AIBU to want to kick the bastard thing out the window? The rage is extreme.

Argos will refund me right? I do not wish to have another one of these bastard things in my house ever again. Which is a shame as I am in my final year of an OU degree. Could really have done with one.

So mad :(

Ope, we bought a new HP printer last week, also £60 and it is soooo slow at printing, refuses to connect to laptops and then is impossible to switch off and switch back on, nothing happens and I have to switch off at the wall. Takes 15 mins of faffing every time we want to use it.

Readytogogogo · 03/10/2020 15:56

Oh I feel your pain. Can never predict whether mine will work first time or take an hour of furious troubleshooting.

Piggypiggyoinkoink · 03/10/2020 15:58

I feel this pain. New Canon printer / scanner here. Set up and worked ok last week. Needed to use the scan function last night. Three hours and four attempts at downloading drivers / registering for god knows what later and it appears what got it working was the quiet hissed threat of being taken apart one fucking screw at a time...

TW2013 · 03/10/2020 15:59

We ended up getting a laser printer which has been much more consistent, although expensive.

Shamrocksunshine · 03/10/2020 15:59

Ok, thanks. Already feeling the rage lessening.
It’s ruined my day. I wanted some printed notes this year but it’s obviously not going to happen. Can’t be arsed with feeling THIS mad. I am usually such a calm person but I am FURIOUS!!!!! Had a full on tantrum.

It’s going back in the box and fingers crossed for a refund. Looks like I will be writing my notes for another year.

And breathe......

Download the app to your phone and try and connect it through that. Once it's on your network you should be able to find it on your laptop.

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 03/10/2020 16:02

HP are notorious for not connecting. I have one and the only way I can get it to work is by hardwiring it in. Is that an option for you?

FOJN · 03/10/2020 16:08

I think there was a thread a while ago about hated appliances and tech, printers seemed to be the worst offender, it was very funny.

I feel your pain, I did kick the last printer hard enough to render it unusable, I'm not proud of my actions Grin but Jesus fucking Christ they are infuriatingly needy and temperamental. The current one is better behaved but still regularly decides it's not connected to the WiFi, the router is upstairs and the printer is downstairs, grr.

And Epsom I am aware I am not using branded cartridges, you were too expensive so please fuck off with the pop-up messages and could you try releasing a product that doesn't interfere with my working day by needing updates every 5 minutes. Whilst I'm here could you also not scan for updates immediately after I've just installed the updates.

Shamrocksunshine · 03/10/2020 16:09

Yes I downloaded the app etc, to no avail. It just will not connect to my wifi. Husband was at it for hours. I want to be able to print from my phone and if I can’t have that function. It’s going back. Completely put me off buying another. I thought for 60 quid, it would work!!

I love my old HP and Epson printers. HP must be about 15+ years and the Epson surely must be at least over half that. Both connected by old fashioned wires and the only crappy part is the extortionate prices of name brand inks (so I use compatible inks and a chip resetter)

I highly recommend getting on FB, Gumtree or Sphock or whatever it's called and get yourself a well practiced machine for a tenner!

D1ngledanglers · 03/10/2020 16:12

Oh I feel your pain. I was raging at my HP printer this week as changed broadband provider & the printer didn't want to know.
I plugged it into the laptop. Then the laptop message offered the option of WiFi
connection.... Fixed it.
Fingers crossed it works next time it's needed. They're bloody infuriating....

Karwomannghia · 03/10/2020 16:15

We didn’t get our ink and dh tried for ages to do the various things it said to get through. I eventually messaged through their Facebook messenger and got a reply quickly so I would try that if you want to speak to someone directly

Shamrocksunshine · 03/10/2020 16:16

Oh they are. For some reason I can’t seem to deal with the level of anger that printers give me. I am
NOT having another one in my house ever again. Like I said I’m a really calm person usually.

I feel like kicking the shit out of it!!! Why can’t I calm down, I can’t even look at the box without the anger returning.

I had this rage with a brand new Epson at £60, was an utter nightmare..printed three sheets bought multiple cartridges at ridiculous expense...gave up on it and gave it to second hand shop.I have never had one since..always use the one at work now...never again...

daylilies · 03/10/2020 16:40

Had to post this!

BikeTyson · 03/10/2020 16:42

My sodding printer keeps tripping the electrics in my house. Functioning printing facilities is one of the things I really miss now I’m wfh.

OneKeyAtATime · 03/10/2020 16:44

We got HP printers at work a few years back. People still swear at them.

Shamrocksunshine · 03/10/2020 16:51

Haha that cat video cheered me up. I’ve totally calmed down now thanks,
Poor husband is still stressed down there I’ve told him to give up. Argos better refund me!!

I had same issue when I bought a new printer earlier this year.

HP customer service is fantastic. Contact them via WhatsApp. In my case, the advisor spent an hour with me trying to connect but the product was faulty. It’s only because of the customer service that I went to exchange the printer for the same one. HP followed up with me after to check if I needed further assistance. I figured, if further down the line I needed help I’d be pleased to have that kind of service.

Bonkerz · 03/10/2020 16:54

Always been fab for me. Had instant ink for 3 years now. When my first printer started playing up I rang them and they sent me a new printer. It worked out they actually paid me to have a new printer as I got a years free ink subscription too as a sorry. Can't fault the customer service at all.
Have you rang them????

Shamrocksunshine · 03/10/2020 17:00

No I haven’t.
I haven’t got time to ring them and faff about.
I’ve been working 12 hour shifts all week and today was my only day off. Taking it back first thing in the morning. I am of the opinion, if it’s not easy to use, or user friendly then it’s not for me. I clearly haven’t got the mentality to own a printer.

Printers are utter bastards!

This from 3.26

DramaAlpaca · 03/10/2020 17:02

I hear you, I really do. There is little that makes me more cross than a printer that refuses to work. I'm getting annoyed on your behalf just reading your post. Bastard printers.

dootball · 03/10/2020 17:04

I'm sure you have done this already - but I found with ours that I have to have the printed and my laptop in the same room as the router. If I do that it works perfectly, if not (especially if the printer is in another room) it crashes almost every single job!

Bargebill19 · 03/10/2020 17:06

I bought a brand new chromebook and canon printer from a certain well known electrical gadget shop. Asked if they would connect via wi fi. Answer was yes. I went grey with trying for a solid 48 hours trying to get the two to talk to each other. The manual was crap. You tube etc no help.
I ended up getting them connected by an old fashioned plug in cable printer to chromebook. The very thing I didn’t want to do. Printer connected fine to my old iPhone but wouldn’t connect to a brand new Samsung either. Printers are the work of the devil.
