To think new laws are needed ASAP to protect Mrs Hinch and other influencers

Mrs Hinch has the number 1 best selling book at the moment where she goes into the heartbreaking trolling she received on tattle. They've been critical at everything from her weight, to her parenting and how her husband looks. It's virtually broken her at times and she felt like quiting the internet all together.

Why isn't this illegal today? Why do people think it's acceptable to give harrasment and hate speech because someone makes their money on social media. In no other workplace would this be accepted. Have people forgotten that Caroline Flack took her own life and nothing has changed :(

Just unfollow and get on with your life's. Sure she's not my cup of tea but she's not doing me any harm.

See I disagree with this take. This is not particularly directed at Mrs H but the influencer/social media in general. I have dc so for me it's important to highlight that they are sales people, talk about affiliated links, cookies, why companies want you to consume social media etc.

Menora · 01/10/2020 23:57

@marniedes

Yes my love followed up by posts like this. It was not ok and people spoke up. It’s a free speech forum to an extent but people will call out others for things that aren’t ok

There are many things in this world I would describe as heartbreaking, OP, but this is not one of them.

Spiderbaby8 · 02/10/2020 00:02
@Spiderbaby8 I do think they are very invested but I guess it's because they were fans before & feel cheated? I don't particularly care about any individual influencers & wouldn't be influenced by them but I have used sites similar to Tattle to show younger girls how influencers photoshop their images etc.
I have no issue with criticising influencer culture, photoshop, bad practices e.g not declaring ads etc. I think this goes beyond that, look at the examples @marniedes posted. Although to the OPs original point I don't think it should be illegal, I'm not sure how that would even work.

marniedes · 02/10/2020 00:02

@PivotPivott

Marn you also haven't screen shorted the responses the lady got to what she said. So many people said how it was wrong to say that about a child. But of course people only show what they want to.

The thing is there are a lot of 'freebies' she is sent and puts up around her house and never ever mentions these small business that sent her it...

People could argue about her all day because she's sly. Some people see it, some don't.

It's not the same because most people with 'normal' jobs can't scrape two pennies together. They don't sit at home showing a sponge and getting stupid amounts for it so to liken to two is just stupid.

I didn't read all the replies I'm sure there are people that disagreed with her!!

You can compare the two she is just in a better paid job. Yeah it is sly and it is taking advantage of people but let's face it so many people in high paying positions are. That is the nature of capitalism it's crap. I understand maybe you think as she hasn't gone to uni or has a particular "skill" so shouldn't be earning so high but that's the nature of the business now. I'm not even a fan of Mrs Hinch really but it's a persona she created and fair play has done well out of.

The contact battle of the influencers using tattle for content and tattle users becoming obsessed with influences just doesn't help anyone. I just think people should log off anything that angers them so much they will post upwards of 20 messages a day for months and months about someone. It's not normal behaviour or healthy.

sneakysnoopysniper · 02/10/2020 00:02

There is an old saying that "people who live in glass houses should not throw stones." If you are going to put yourself out on social media or work in a highly visible public role then you are going to encounter negative opinions and comments, no matter how young, attractive, trendy or otherwise you may be. You need to wear a tin hat in public life.

I like Mrs Hinch but she needs to Be able to take criticism as well as compliments. All death threats are just horrid and people should be Charged and punished for it. She has got the money to pay for a personal assistant to do all her social media for her , that way all nasty stuff gets filtered. She appears to be a nice lady with a loving family but I am getting fed up of the constant selling and plugging of her book.

Menora · 02/10/2020 00:05

@marniedes

No actually most posters seem to be people who were fans then started to feel conned. They began to follow because she was some kind of ‘sensation’ but quickly realised it was not all it seemed.

I read there on other threads and have learnt a lot about influencing. I’m not old but it was all very new and sly to me I didn’t know it was going on. I don’t follow any influencers on social media anymore and feel a bit sorry for Mrs Hinch I think she is a victim of her own success/sob story and a blind determination to build some kind of empire, at ANY cost to her own mental health or welfare of her family or her ‘fans’. Well it’s a bit sad in many ways.

earthyfire · 02/10/2020 00:06

Influencers usually want everyone licking their backsides and when people don't or they aren't easily manipulated they just don't like it. I'd like new laws brought in which forces the influencers to be completely transparent.

roking · 02/10/2020 00:10

Wouldn't it be classed as trolling to go on Amazon and purposely, publicly slate a book you admit you haven't bought or read just because you don't like someone?

Would trying to get something trending on Twitter to make a fool of someone be classed as trolling?

Menora · 02/10/2020 00:12

Why can’t people choose for themselves anyway? If they want to read tattle or post they can, if they don’t like it then don’t. If they want to buy 200 cloths a week then crack on. As long as influencers are held to account over their advertising that’s mostly what I care about. They don’t help themselves

I don’t know when influencers became Jesus of the internet, herding out their flock to spread the Be Kind message while they email notes of their latest memoir to their ghostwriter from their #gifted sofa

standupsitdownturnaround · 02/10/2020 00:15

Sali Hughes is doing a radio 4 documentary on this next week.
It's called Me and My Trolls.
Not sure if it's about Tattle or if she has particular trolls.
I like Tattle. It's very funny and a lot of clever people on there.
Influencers culture is a bit rotten. I'm glad to see people ripping it apart a bit because it helps shatter the illusion. Can only be good for impressionable people.

MsEllany · 02/10/2020 00:16

Is it just influencers you have these feelings about @vkocy? How about politicians? Singers? Actors?

It’s not nice sure, but when you’re in the public eye for whatever reason you need to have a layer of protection around yourself, especially if your children are involved (which I assume hers are? I only know she’s the cleaning woman with a grey house). If you can’t manage that, then you need a team to manage that for you so you don’t go looking for the shit that people say about you. No one is obligated to like you or support you just because you’re known. No one should be abusive, but what you’re describing sounds like gossip on a forum, not nasty comments on her instagram.

Personally I couldn’t be less interested in reading a book by an instagram personality. I find grown adults having such strong feelings odd tbh.

Nomoreilove · 02/10/2020 00:16

Haven’t read the thread but influencers bring it on themselves. They don’t want to remove themselves from social media because they love the money too much. They could easily get rid of it and go back to being an ordinary person. But they want the freebies, the perks, meals out etc. They need to choose to Ignore it. Bunch of strangers online is completely different to being bullied in person. What about those they go through horrendous bullying at school throughout their whole time?! You can’t get away from it at school but u can from social media.

pollypork · 02/10/2020 00:17

@Spiderbaby8 I can't be bothered to read the screenshots & am confused to be honest as just don't know enough about Mrs H so I'm a bit lost although don't think people should comment on dc. However my point was in order to illustrate my teachings I'm relying on other invested people to post before/afters, examples of deceit etc if that makes sense.

Devlesko · 02/10/2020 00:24

When you are as famous and taking peoples money you are accountable to them, or so they think.
They are buying into the celebrity, bit naive not to consider this.

Menora · 02/10/2020 00:25

@standupsitdownturnaround

I don’t know much about Sali but people seem to be annoyed that she branded herself on being totally honest and unbiased with reviews and journalism then became an influencer on Instagram and did a complete 180 when the money and sponsorships started coming in 🤷‍♀️

earthyfire · 02/10/2020 00:26

Influencers fail to mention the cult like following they create - they actively encourage their followers to pounce on and abuse anyone who dares to have a different opinion.

I must know. Why are presumably sensible people buying this book?!

Are they all that desperate for a loo roll subsitute?!

Confused
Bewarethesealions · 02/10/2020 05:11

I kind of lost any sympathy I had for her when she came on here and whinged when she got called out for being a marketing campaign. So nope, she can get in the sea. Go cry somewhere else.

It's a fact she's number 1 so if people can't even get that I don't think we can have a conversation

So why post?

Monty27 · 02/10/2020 05:20

She reminds me of that woman who's name I can't remember (bear with me)
Mmmm the one that was married to Peter Andre
