To think new laws are needed ASAP to protect Mrs Hinch and other influencers

Mrs Hinch has the number 1 best selling book at the moment where she goes into the heartbreaking trolling she received on tattle. They've been critical at everything from her weight, to her parenting and how her husband looks. It's virtually broken her at times and she felt like quiting the internet all together.

Why isn't this illegal today? Why do people think it's acceptable to give harrasment and hate speech because someone makes their money on social media. In no other workplace would this be accepted. Have people forgotten that Caroline Flack took her own life and nothing has changed :(

Am I the only person in here who has never heard of Mrs Hinch?

What exactly is an “influencer”? Who decides who qualifies as an “influencer”? It sounds cringeworthy to me.

ReeseWitherfork · 03/10/2020 18:12

Curious why you clicked on a thread about Mrs Hinch if you don’t know who she is Diva66 but you can probably google her if you are interested. I can’t tell you anything other than the fact she’s an influencer who apparently may or may not have a best selling book.

Toffieefee · 03/10/2020 18:16

They are normal people on Instagram etc. They end up getting popular and getting lots of followers.

Mrs hinch has an immaculate home. Basically think how gypsys/travellers live. Everything gets cleaned. Everything's tidy. Everything's white and grey. She buys tons of cleaning products. Wax melts, zoflora, flash etc. People started copying her cleaning hacks. She does things like shines her sink everyday. Pours big cleaner down her toilet and films it being squeezed in. She cleans her bathroom. She shows you her cleaning cupboard. She will show you her to do list with bluddy ticks next to everything.

Mop floor✓
Clean cupboard✓
Clean oil burners✓
Spray beds✓

Then she goes to b&m and films herself. So she will pick up abit of tack in b&m and say check out this guys. Then she goes home and opens her bags. She will show you her purchases like sponges. Cleaning stuff.

Then women who follow her copy her. They also go to b&m and buy zoflora in every smell. Minkys. Flash. Duck bog cleaner. Then they say oooo I'm hinching my home.

She also shows you how to organise your cupboards etc.

Then she wrote a book.

Now she's famous.

No troll could ever be so tedious as this OP and her excruciating plugging of whatever schleb has taken her fancy this week.

Pure gies me the wet boak. Envy

Because I thought I might learn something about a subject I am clearly ignorant of. Do you only read about things that you already have an intimate knowledge of? How do you ever learn anything new? Doesn’t it get boring only reading about what you know? Or are you just trying to score some cheap points by sneering at me?
Tunnocks34 · 03/10/2020 20:33

To be honest I find the woman who post on tattle absolutely pathetic.

I can understand being frustrated by influencers, I can understand disliking what the show of themselves, and what the stand for.

I cannot understand, going onto a website, And essentially ripping them apart. I read a thread about her once where they called her ugly, slagged off her voice, her weight, her house, her husband, her dog and even called her baby ugly.

I mean. I can’t say I am a fan of many influencers, but what do woman get out of that? How do you spend hours spewing such personal hatred about someone, and then go about your normal life. It’s incomprehensible to me that you can be a decent person, and be so vile online.

Scaraffito · 03/10/2020 20:39

To be honest I find the woman who post on tattle absolutely pathetic.

Why just the women? What about the men that post on tattle?

Tunnocks34 · 03/10/2020 20:42

@Scaraffito you’re right. Men and woman.

Menora · 03/10/2020 22:34

One woman or multiple women I am confused

You can read and not post, a lot of people lurk there I think (myself included)

StitchInTimeSavesNine · 03/10/2020 22:40

Alot of them get into hot water now.

I honestly thought you meant as a cleaning aid. Blush

It will never catch on! Nothing to promote!

Fros · 03/10/2020 22:45

I absolutely read the title as 'we need laws to protect us from influencers' eg people recommending unsafe ways to (mis)use products (zoflora anyone?), or shilling mlm schemes.

Marg33t · 03/10/2020 22:47

You're saying that on aibu on Mumsnet 😂 where people like to rip other people to bits

And I doubt you saw all those comments on tattle. Hardly any comments are about appearances and if anyone said a baby was ugly we would call them out on that.

I've seen far more vile and hateful comments on Mumsnet than tattle.

If they don't want people online slagging off their house then stop broadcasting it, I only ever see people slagging off the boring grey and the free crap they've filled it with

ReeseWitherfork · 03/10/2020 22:53

Reread my post @Diva66 assuming that I was being politely and not “sneering”. Think you’ve picked up a tone that wasn’t there. I’m being genuinely serious... if you are interested in who she is and reading this thread hasn’t given you enough info then I suspect she’ll come up a fair bit on google. (Or apparently you can buy a book she has written called “This is me” which I would assume is her entire life story.)

Bigyellowsunshine · 03/10/2020 23:10

@roking will your research surrounding PTWM also include finding out where all the PayPal donations went? PTWM seems unable to answer any questions regarding this herself so maybe you could give her a hand?

lilolemoi · 04/10/2020 16:00

Fantasy scenario: " They are normal people on Instagram etc. They end up getting popular and getting lots of followers "

Reality: Hinch payed/pays for followers & approached management companies to fake it & create a brand.

Simples!!

Sandyfeet101 · 04/10/2020 22:47

@Marg33t

Sorry, but that is simply not true. There are constant horrible comments about physical appearances not just about the influencers but their husbands/partners too. (Not just talking about Mrs Hinch) These comments go largely unchallenged and anyone who raises the point that maybe posters should stick to the actual issues rather than personal attacks on appearance they get warned or banned for trying to police what other people talk about.

I think the unrelenting personal attacks completely undermine any valid criticism about donations, Ad transparency or anything else.

Yes, I’m bemused by the idea the Tattle is all about holding the rich, powerful and exploitative to account. It’s mainly just a bitchfest. Which is fine, if you enjoy bitching about famous people. But don’t pretend like it’s engaging in profound cultural critique.

Click on a completely random thread, 2 mins, you see it everywhere. Very sanctimonious too.

Given lots of the nasty, judgmental and troll like comments I see on MN I don’t think most on here will agree OP. Lots of people are unhappy with their lives and judging others harshly makes them feel better.

But 100% agree with you something needs to change to protect influencers.

noton7 · 04/10/2020 23:40

*unhappy with their lives or themselves

Candyfloss99 · 04/10/2020 23:47

I was getting random nasty comments on my insta so I removed all the followers I didn't know and made my account private. No more nasty comments. They should try it.

Quaagars · 05/10/2020 00:02

@Glitteryone
my sympathy stops when I think that she could simply delete her Instagram and step away from the public eye!

Why the hell should she?
What, let bullies win?
Fuck. That.

Redolent · 05/10/2020 00:02

This comment basically sums up the irony of Tattle. It’s apparently sad engage with these social media figures, but it’s not sad to talk about the people who talk about their content?? And it’s definitely not sad to participate in a daily(/hourly) running commentary about content that you find boring, trite or offensive...

Also learnt that “hate-following” is a thing.

Yep, the old IG threads on here opened my eyes to that!
People professing to tear down looks, what they did, hated everything they stood they for but they could still tell you everything that had been on stories and what they were up to in obsessive detail!
Every bit as obsessed as the "huns" they keep going on about.
