And what do you do?

Is it even possible in today's climate?

I can imagine 000's of us are trying to do the same thing, however, perhaps there's something I haven't thought of... :)

I looked at the skills I have (sales, marketing) and reinvented myself as a "consultant" in these areas (specialised on a particular industry I had worked extensively in), did a few low paid projects to get going and now I charge a decent day rate and have regular work coming in

wigglerose · 01/10/2020 20:32

I'm a lawyer. WFH full time since March. I want to go back to working in the office. Hopefully this will be an option when I return from mat leave.

doadeer · 01/10/2020 20:34

I'm a freelance marketer. Worked from home past 3 years though used to go into offices every few weeks.

bimblingonagain · 01/10/2020 20:36

Accountant, 100% wfh for years. I dont get lonely as I have kids, dog, husband and lots of other things I do, so I actually really enjoy the peace and quiet. In the summer, I can work in the garden in the shade, it is heaven.

steff13 · 01/10/2020 20:36

I conduct public assistance hearings. I've worked from home for 9 years.

MilaRos · 01/10/2020 20:37

DH WFH, he is a quality control analyst/sales coordinator

Megan2018 · 01/10/2020 20:38

DH does, he works for a FinTech
He started this year before Covid as a career change. His role is 100% home based. He has to work shifts though, it’s not 9-5.

LongPauseNoAnswer · 01/10/2020 20:39

Own my own business. It's 100% online so I can work from anywhere. I can also live in any country as long as I have good internet access.

I built my business to support me financially but also to allow me to easily move - I'm a trailing spouse. I also built it so that I only work 10 to 15 hours a week. It has made us wealthy so DH doesn't have to work but does it because he loves it. Best thing I ever did was starting it.

Timeforanotherusername · 01/10/2020 20:41

Not full-time although could easily go so if I wanted.

Job did not start of wfh but ended up that way. Been wfh for the last few years.

Has it pluses and minuses but with today technlogy the only thing i can't actually do is make a colleague a cup of tea

Staffy1 · 01/10/2020 20:41

Programming, have been working from home for years. The office the other side of the country and I've never actually been there.

Zzz1234 · 01/10/2020 20:42

Local authority, could WFH before but didn't very often, now I go to the office once a week

MaizeBlouse · 01/10/2020 20:45

I'm a voiceover artist and have WFH for a long time as I have a recording studio in my home. I love it as it is so flexible and very well paid when you get the right gigs and learn how to hustle. I also went to drama school and this helps a lot as I can really control my voice to give the right performance for each project.

There are A LOT of amateurs trying to get in to it though who buy chappy cheap mics, have no training and wonder why they get no work.

Oliack1417 · 01/10/2020 20:48

Yes, Senior HR role for Financial Services. Will be at home For the foreseeable, along with 80,000 colleagues!

AramintaLee · 01/10/2020 20:49

I'm a Project Manager for a massive company but worked 100% from home since March. To be honest, I hate it. That line between home life and work life has completely disappeared and it's draining. It's almost like "work hours" mean nothing. Every hour is work hour. I can't wait to go back to the office where I can leave my laptop locked in my desk at the end of the day and clock off and not think about work until the next day.

littlekipling · 01/10/2020 20:49

Yes I'm 100% working from home in a back office NHS role. We have meetings over Teams, I train people over Teams too and we even interview patients (for patient story work we do) over video calls and telephone calls.

sillyrubberduck · 01/10/2020 20:50

Yes, 100 % from March. Full time, work in Finance. Office shut and everyone working from home. Miss the people but not the travel. I had a long commute.

Marmite27 · 01/10/2020 20:50

I write instruction manuals for a bank, DH does business intelligence (Chandler Bing type stuff with spreadsheets).

Been given the option of 100% home, or 50/50, or 100% office for when we return. I’d have picked 100% home but I’d be locked out of work place benefits like the gym and nursery so have opened for 50/50 - which in essence will actually be 100% from home without the financial support. However for the next few years the cost saving for nursery would be greater anyway.

Viv0321 · 01/10/2020 20:56

Long pause- what do you do? Grin

Figgyboa · 01/10/2020 20:59

Yes, and have for over 6 years. Work in finance.

pastaparadise · 01/10/2020 21:00

100% since March. Work in university training- all our lectures, meetings etc are now remote. Love not having to commute/ rush back for dc pick ups so hoping to stay like this

AmethystMoonShine · 01/10/2020 21:05

Yes, I’m a counsellor working via Zoom, WebChat, phone & Email.
Can’t see me returning to face to face work for a while... if at all. I prefer no travelling, I can work longer more flexible hours.

goteam · 01/10/2020 21:05

Project manager for a charity. 3 days over 4 so I can do the school run. Have always been home based in this role. Every bit of my role can be done remotely. We used to have face to face monthly tean meetings in the office but now all by Skype

heather7654 · 01/10/2020 21:06

I teach classes and do interviews for an online English teaching company. I've been with them for around three years and I've worked from the UK, USA and Thailand.

Disclaimer: it's not my company or an MLM 🤣
They asked me to recruit for them about a year ago. I only do a few interviews a month; I teach about 200 classes per month at £9 per 25min class.

I don't know if I'm allowed to say on here, but feel free to PM me if you're interested.

Polly99 · 01/10/2020 21:07

DH and I have both been ft at home since March. I'm a solicitor, he works in fin tech. I'd like a day a week in the office to see my team.

goteam · 01/10/2020 21:09

Agree @pastaparadise I used to clock watch towards the end of our office based meetings and had a few near misses with the trains. I love knowing I'm just a few streets away from the kids' school. I'm also responsible for organising all our meetings and make sure they finish by 3!
