And what do you do?

Is it even possible in today's climate?

I can imagine 000's of us are trying to do the same thing, however, perhaps there's something I haven't thought of... :)

I'm WFH full time since the middle of March, used to be on site full time. It's hard to describe my job succinctly but it's like project management in an engineering company. I spend most of the day on the phone or on Teams. It's perfectly possible to WFH full time in today's climate, it just depends what your job is.

lifesalongsong · 01/10/2020 20:01

I dont but I had the impression that pretty much everyone in office based roles in the whole country is

Is it even possible in today's climate?

Isnt today's climate what has made it possible for huge numbers of employees?

Public sector environmental specialist. Took 20 years to get to this level. Work were pretty flexible before and there is no set date to go back. It has been muted as an if we go back and a chance to shut offices. Not missing the traffic jam commute apart from the the time to clear your head on the way home.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 01/10/2020 20:01

Head of an HR function and I've been at home since March and can't see me ever going back.
Plenty of jobs are being advertised now as remote

recreationalcalpol · 01/10/2020 20:02

Yep. Barrister. I WFH unless I need to go to court, but a lot of court is online at the moment anyway.

SpottedOnMN · 01/10/2020 20:02

I’ve worked from home for 5 years. I’m a headhunter (recruiter).

Taxiparent · 01/10/2020 20:03

Yes, full time teacher, been working from home for 3 years.

Redcrayons · 01/10/2020 20:04

I did it for 5 years about 10 years ago and I hated it. Changed jobs to mostly office based. Obviously I’m back to full time WFH again now, and I’m enjoying it much more.

The technology has improved so much, Teams and Zoom make a massive difference. I don’t think I want to go back to the office again.

Marketing.

JonSnowsCloak · 01/10/2020 20:04

NHS senior-ish finance, working from home since March lockdown. Been in to the office a few times for socially distanced meetings where it wouldnt have really worked well over Teams or Skype. Could do majority of work from home forever but would lose the relationships we have with the operational staff we work closely with. We're advised not to go in unless we can socially distance which we wouldn't be able to do with everyone in the office so not sure what will happen going forward

FlyingApples · 01/10/2020 20:08

Yes, since 2010. I’m a freelance journalist. Sometimes I go and see people, but mostly I do interviews on the phone.

tenlittlecygnets · 01/10/2020 20:10

Copy editor and proofreader. I've wfh for 20 years.

LemonLymanDotCom · 01/10/2020 20:11

Worked at home for the last 5 years, I work in publishing.

Toseland · 01/10/2020 20:12

I’ve WFH for 15 years, I’m a graphic designer. Pros: work/life balance Cons: no office banter.
It’s been getting better and easier as technology improves.

MedicalMystery1 · 01/10/2020 20:16

I do and work in a payroll department. It’s mandatory that 15 of us work from home full time And only 3 members off staff are in the office. All work is electronic except from mileage, timesheets and PVGs

Cheeringmeup · 01/10/2020 20:16

Snap! Same job, same length of time. I love my 30 second commute to my desk!
Jouleigh · 01/10/2020 20:17

Work for local authority. No plans for us to go back to the office. Turns out we are more productive working from home!

Also I get to do tedious stuff like put a load of washing on or hoover on the way to the toilet. It's very convenient Smile

Adamandtheaunts · 01/10/2020 20:20

Also local authority. Worked from home part time pre covid, full time now. Mostly PC based. Totally possible thanks to Teams, zoom etc.

curiouscatgotkilled · 01/10/2020 20:21

Social services support staff. Pretty much 100% wfh since March. I do have the option to go into the office which I do every now and again, mainly when I have to print.
I loved it at first, then hated it, now I'm used to it.

Redwrecker · 01/10/2020 20:24

Civil servant, WFH permanently, pre-COvid too. I was travelling 1-2 times a month, one of those being a two day trip.

Administrative function, but a part of the CS with a high proportion of home workers (that will get higher post COvid!). They couldn’t fit even half of us in the office space they currently have.

Terrace58 · 01/10/2020 20:25

I’m a specialty programmer . I’ve wfh for years. My DH is a traditional programmer. He has wfh for ages as well.

hammeringinmyhead · 01/10/2020 20:26

DH does. He is in PR.

Surely now is the best time to look as so many vacancies are advertised as WFH? It depends though if you mean a PAYE role from home, or working for yourself from home as for example a freelance PA. I don't think I'd try and set up the latter right now.

TooManyDogsandChildren · 01/10/2020 20:26

Yes I'm a lawyer and I was the only one in my team full time WFH before Covid, but I am about 100 years old.

Now everyone else is also WFH and I can't see us going back. Teams works perfectly well for us.

LadyJaye · 01/10/2020 20:27

Worked from home for years (senior IT professional).

In the old days, I would try to spend a week every six weeks or so in one of our bases in London, New York and Sydney, to maintain contact, although tbh we have all been working very well remotely and I'm going to find it difficult to justify that amount of international travel in the future, if/when things are resolved.

rosesinmygarden · 01/10/2020 20:27

I'm a private tutor and educational author. Have been working from home for the last two years on a self employed basis.

It can be lonely, but it's been useful this year!

Poorpigletsrevenge · 01/10/2020 20:28

Ops Manager. I go in once a month. It pays well and the work is interesting.
