I would say sales assistant at a supermarket , too repetitive for me.

OP posts:
letmethinkaboutitfornow · 27/09/2020 20:35

For me it was never the job but the boss.
I had a a couple of a*hole ones, they ruined the best job... 🤷🏻‍♀️
And doing waitressing was great fun with a brilliant team! 👍👍👍

UniversallyUnchallenged · 27/09/2020 20:35

Call center, electricity supplier. It wasn’t all bad, but the anger from some people, screaming as you answered. Opened my eyes to a side of the general public. I’d previously worked in fast food so thought I’d seen and heard it all.. I hadn’t!

CoRhona · 27/09/2020 20:35

Cleaning tables at a service station when everyone could still smoke at their tables. Used to empty out ashtrays over the food in the bins 🤮

WhatTheFuckHappenedHere · 27/09/2020 20:35

Estate agent!

bettsbattenburg · 27/09/2020 20:37

washing dishes in a hotel kitchen for 75p an hour.

Bearfrills · 27/09/2020 20:38

Saturday girl in a butcher shop and because I was 15 I got all the crap jobs. Know those shiny stainless steel display cabinets with the raw meat in? Well they have little drainage channels in them so all the blood/juices drip away instead of pooling around the produce. Under the counter are the buckets where it collects. One of my jobs was to empty these buckets. They were around 15L when full and after a hot day in July would be stinking because the inside of the cabinet is chilled but the underneath is not Envy (not envy)

madcatladyforever · 27/09/2020 20:38

Working for a snotty bitch in a Brighton clinic. I did not fit their image because I was overweight and "apparently" everyone complained about me.
Rubbish, I've had numerous jobs in loads of similar clinics and everyone loved me. Luckily I'm old enough to know my own worth and not be crushed by people like this.
My current job is great and nobody ever says a bad word against me.

Sparklesocks · 27/09/2020 20:38

I used to work in a nightclub pre smoking ban and one of my jobs was emptying all the ash trays at the end of the night 🤮

ghostyslovesheets · 27/09/2020 20:39

working behind a bar in a local pub - sexual innuendo day and night - boss told me to show more cleavage - vile racist clientele (including ex Liverpool players!) I walked out the day Nelson Mandela was released and it was on TV in the snug - with a chorus of monkey noises and comments about swinging from tress if it wasn't for the white man

Quality assurance lab at a factory making medical supplies. The summer between A-levels and university. So dull. Day after day of attaching latex gloves to the end of a short drainpipe, adding 600ml of water and recording whether or not they leaked. On an exciting day we got to titrate the amount of iodine in the dressings.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 27/09/2020 20:40

In a factory which made filchie clips for female sterilisation. It was a holiday job when I was a student and was horrendous because the clips had a rubber insole which was moulded but when they came out of the oven-thingy I had to scrape off any extra rubber with a scalpel. Mind numbingly boring and really hard on your hand in terms of RSI. So glad it was only a summer job.

Scandi123 · 27/09/2020 20:40

Telesales.. told myself that it would be okay for a while because it was selling electricity for a provider that was actually cheapest on the market. However I just felt guilty the entire time for pestering people with calls..

Itwasgoodwhileitlasted · 27/09/2020 20:42

Call centre was dreadful and was micromanaged. Ugh. I lasted 5 months. Other worst jobs was a Saturday job frying onions in a burger van. Took 6 days to get smell of onions off!!

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 27/09/2020 20:43

As a teenage waitress at a real dive restaurant which was later closed down because it had cockroaches, the manager was a prick who would only let 15yr old me take a 15min break on a 10hr shift which I now know to be illegal, and he would also inform me that I wasnt allowed to eat any of the restaurant's food, while holding a plate piled high of Yorkshire puddings etc, the chefs who worked there were awful and would sing things like Who Let The Dogs Out when I walked in, it was just the pits!

TheClawww · 27/09/2020 20:44

8hrs a night stood at a table turning envelopes inside out.

(banks would send bags of their opened envelopes and we had to check nothing was missed)

JalapenoDave · 27/09/2020 20:44

Sticking security stickers/tags on pack upon pack of expensive cutlery. I was 15, on about £3 an hour. The good old days!

DuesToTheDirt · 27/09/2020 20:45

Printing out copies of credit card statements that customers had requested. This was years ago and they were on microfiche. You'd have a list of account numbers and dates, then you'd get the right microfiche(s) out of the drawers, insert in the machine, find the right statement and print it off. Then put the microfiches back. Rinse and repeat. All bloody day.

YewandOak · 27/09/2020 20:45

Working in a factory (Clarks shoes) Mindnumbingly boring.

DiscombobulatedAf · 27/09/2020 20:46

Sales assistant at a clothes store. I hated it as it was always dead. I used to take naps in the back of the stockroom

LadyJaye · 27/09/2020 20:49

Chargehand in a bar/restaurant in which the kitchen was staffed by psychopaths.

I handed in my notice after a commis chef threw a carving knife at my face (fortunately it missed).

BonnieTellyLass · 27/09/2020 20:49

One of the concessions in Debenhams womens department

One you all know of im sure ...

So much bitchyness and backstabbing
Compared to where i came from at the time (hospitality) i definitely felt my colleagues had too much time on their hands to be so mean and nasty

Ivr never encountered bullying apart from this job

JaneyGotAGun · 27/09/2020 20:49

As a teenager working as a dental nurse- we had a portable suction machine for when the compressor broke down. When it was full it had to be manually emptied of blood gunk and saliva 😷 I always gagged doing that job

Bargebill19 · 27/09/2020 20:53

In an open shed, whilst it was snowing, bunching strawberry plants. So cold I cried and only lasted a week.

Nacreous · 27/09/2020 20:53

Working packing live pheasants into crates: you literally couldn't stand up straight in the houses so had to be bent double and the dirt took days to get rid of. Luckily it was not a regular gig!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 27/09/2020 20:59

Call centre.
Turn on phone at start of the shift. It rings. Answer.
Screaming person calling you names, occasionally also actually threatening you, because idiot didn't realise something anyone with half a common sense would.
