Police are visiting someone on my street for some reason and have parked behind me in my very long narrow drive. Haven't asked if they can park there. Lots of space on the road to park however they would be on double yellows. If I needed to go anywhere, I wouldn't be able to move. No idea which house they're in. I need to go out in 35 minutes for a flu jab appointment. I know they could be dealing with a serious emergency but no idea why they're parked on my drive! WIBU to drive very slowly backwards and gently nudge their car off my drive? (Only kidding). Slightly miffed. Should I try and find them and ask them to move?

It's annoying but maybe all those people who are whining and advocating letting tyres down / leaning on your horn etc, could consider the myriad of reasons that the police might be in a house for such a long time, off the top of my head.... letting a family know about an injury / accident / death, dealing with a domestic violence situation, child protection issue, missing child.

Do you want to be the person who acts like a twat at a time like that?

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 27/09/2020 20:17

@MintyMabel

WIBU to drive very slowly backwards and gently nudge their car off my drive?

You can’t actually be serious with this question.

She did say she was only kidding right after that.

I can't believe you've been called a grass OP. :o

RagamuffinAndFidget · 27/09/2020 20:17

@MintyMabel no she wasn't! That's why she wrote just kidding in brackets immediately afterwards Hmm

Ginkypig · 27/09/2020 20:18

@lasangoles

Also if they were dealing with a dangerous or heated situation it would hardly be a good idea for me to distract them by knocking on the door would it.
Knock knock knock

Stressed looking police officer
yes is everything ok do you need help madam?

Op
Yes fine but could you just pop out and move the police car I need to nip to the pharmacy for my flu jab

Even more Stressed looking police officer
Em well yes but can you wait until Iv managed to subdue this 25 stone knife wielding steroid abusing bodybuilder, it's just he's trying his best to stab my partner Mrs.

Op
Yes no problem. see you soon officer. Good luck with the knife man!

Extremely worried looking police officer
Yes Thanks
As the door closes op hears officer shouting at the top,of his voice
Hang in there Dave I'm coming, just keep using that chopping board as a shield!

X-post Glenda!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 27/09/2020 20:19

As for this ACAB thing, I'm sure there are plenty of people who hate/distrust/fear the police (surely we haven't all forgotten George Floyd and BLM so soon?), but this is nothing whatsoever to do with their job, but their individual illegal and selfish behaviour.

If I were mugged by somebody who happened to be a window cleaner by trade and I complained about his actions, I would hope people wouldn't be so simple as to start accusing me of being one of the AWCAB brigade.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 27/09/2020 20:20

:o Ginky.

lasangoles · 27/09/2020 20:22

@mintymabel well, I did literally write 'only kidding' directly after the quote, I thought that would be enough for you to determine that I was in fact kidding.

I don’t necessarily think people should be respected just because they are police officers.
It’s like saying anyone in the Armed forces or police service is automatically a hero..
Respect should be given to anyone regardless of their job title. We’re all human beings facing a pandemic.
There are good and bad everywhere in all walks of life.

Afibtomyboy · 27/09/2020 20:27

Very early in season for flu jab.

Optimum is end of October / beg of November, and early in the day.

Afibtomyboy · 27/09/2020 20:30

Respect / hero

Two different things

And in this context, I would be a lot more respectful to a police car causing me inconvenience... essentially I would suck it up.

A DHL vehicle.... I would complain

ladybirdsarelovely33 · 27/09/2020 20:32

OP, did you manage to speak to the police officers?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 27/09/2020 20:33

@BonnieMcflurry

And what do you do phone the station like a grass and you don't even have the guts to ask why yourself. Should be ashamed they are doing a job that we should respect and understand.
🤣 A grass. Ok then
BloggersBlog · 27/09/2020 20:34

@ladybirdsarelovely33

OP, did you manage to speak to the police officers?
No, she said she didnt
phoenixrosehere · 27/09/2020 20:38

I think you’ve been very restrained OP! This would really have annoyed me.

Agree.

People moan about how people miss appointments, the costs to the NHS and how people that do should be fined, yet OP shouldn’t be annoyed that police are blocking their way to an appointment that many people are struggling to get atm.

OP handled the situation well considering the circumstances. She couldn’t disturb the police if it was an emergency situation or something possibly dangerous putting the police and herself at risk and whomever the police was there for also deserves privacy too. OP also should be able to leave her house as she pleases especially for an appt.

The police shouldn’t have parked there if there were other places they could have.

StillGardening · 27/09/2020 20:39

Really sad to see negative comments towards the police in a week when an officer lost his life and the service must be hurting. Yes, it’s annoying. Did this thread actually give you ideas you hadn’t had yourself or did you just want to chunter. And if the latter, was it necessary, this week ? The police aren’t evil. They literally spend their lives dealing with the worst and the saddest of society. This week , of all others , cut them a break ?

MintyMabel · 27/09/2020 20:41

no she wasn't! That's why she wrote just kidding in brackets immediately afterwards hmm

Aye ok, calm your jets, I missed that part, no need to be an arse about it.

lasangoles · 27/09/2020 20:46

@stillgardening had no idea that a police officer was killed this week. Very sad. Don't think it's a reason to hold off from all conversation about police officers and whether they are acting appropriately or not.

lasangoles · 27/09/2020 20:47

@mintymabel it is quite funny that you missed it though Grin

Well as the OP stated straight after that sentence, she was joking. Its like some people just don't bother reading.
GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 27/09/2020 20:49

I find myself saying "Whoops, sorry missed that" on threads a lot recently.

I blame tiredness.

Prison Officers deal with the worst
of society. Only they are not in the public eye.
Nobody is forced to do a job, regardless of what job they do.
Some people have bad experiences of dealing with the police.
You could get pulled over 10 times, 9 times by reasonable ones and once by an arsehole.
Unfortunately everyone remembers the negative experiences.
If you go on YouTube you’ll see many comments, lots of them negative towards the police. Lots of hatred, some very strong.
The view of the police is very mixed.

CandyLeBonBon · 27/09/2020 20:52

All these people saying 'don't bother the police officer because he's busy, fail to realise that if ANOTHER emergency vehicle were to require access to OP's road/driveway, they wouldn't be able to. Police officers are bit above the law and access is required for good reason.

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 27/09/2020 20:52

This thread has been very entertaining Grin. I cant believe someone called you a grass! Surely the police actually rely on people being grasses? Grin
