Anyone actually looked at these posts and wondered why? My post didn't reach the 'tending now' despite getting hundreds of responses.
Maybe I should go to sleep now and forget all this but can't help feel cheated into thinking this was a nice supportive place.
I guess being autistic is a factor.

OP posts:
Notimeforaname · 27/09/2020 01:06

I have no idea what's happening...

Inkpaperstars · 27/09/2020 01:13

You are trending now OP!

I must admit I don't understand the point you are trying to make. Are you saying MN should look at threads, decide which person needs help or advice most and pick them to be trending? Even if they are not trending as in attracting views etc?

jessstan2 · 27/09/2020 01:13

Point us in the direction of the thread you are talking about.

Mumsnet is very well moderated.

If your thread is not 'trending' it's nothing personal.

Ghosts2020 · 27/09/2020 01:14

@Thewho67 I know exactly what post you're on about and I have to agree with you. Despite the algorithm, moderators can still control content perception and I feel like they wouldn't want your post directed to the attention of everyone. I think it's unfortunately a power dynamic by those higher up as they seem to like to control every little aspect. As for the numbers thing I get it things should be shown in the right order not in the order best suits the agenda of those in control.

Inkpaperstars · 27/09/2020 01:15

Sorry OP I have re read and I think I understand a bit better.

SoulofanAggron · 27/09/2020 01:20

Are you drunk OP?

It comes across as a bit narcissistic to post 'why isn't my post trending?' The site computer doesn't owe you personally anything.

And I assume trending is done via an algorithm not a person. The computer wouldn't know if you're autistic or not- it's not discriminating against you.

moderators can still control content perception and I feel like they wouldn't want your post directed to the attention of everyone.

@Ghosts2020 I can't imagine they often deliberately alter what's trending. The have other stuff to do, IRL and on site.

AutumnSuns · 27/09/2020 01:22

You’re trending now OP. It’s a quieter time of night so this thread is the most interacted on currently.
Please don’t judge the help yo got for whether you make trending or not. Hundreds of not thousands of posts happens a day, it’s not a popularity contest.

jessstan2 · 27/09/2020 01:25

Oh it's this thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4033921-Losing-faith-in-Mumsnet

Ghosts2020 · 27/09/2020 01:25

@soulofanaggron you've massively missed the op's point and proved them right on the previous thread by being quite rude. How ironic

vodkaredbullgirl · 27/09/2020 01:25

I just look for active, hardly look for trending.

jessstan2 · 27/09/2020 01:29

I'm not trendy so it wouldn't bother me.

I thought we weren't supposed to make threads about threads.

MrsBrunch · 27/09/2020 02:01

Oh, looks like one of those posters that think that 'mumsnet' is one person instead of the hot mess of hundreds of differing opinions that it really is.

brushandmop · 27/09/2020 02:21

@TheWho67 I have seen this the 'losing faith in mumsnet trendng' I live in NZ so will have different topics trending regularly when UK is asleep.

You sound like one of those people who post those awful facebook posts 'I bet none of my friends will share this'....'I bet I know who will'.

CaptainCabinets · 27/09/2020 02:33
Confused
LagunaBubbles · 27/09/2020 02:44

Mumsnet, shame on you. People come to you with their problems, the least you can do is moderate

Eh? I don't get your point sorry.

jessstan2 · 27/09/2020 03:30

I think the op has got our points now. Nothing personal, we love you to bits but this little issue is one you have blown out of proportion. Hope you are well asleep and will feel better when you wake up.

seayork2020 · 27/09/2020 04:01

Mumsnet is a forum where random people post when they feel like it post not a cult nor an organised conspiracy, mind you I am sure there are threads thinking that.

Op you are one of the many on here you are qn individual like everyone so maybe take a step back for a bit

Toilenstripes · 27/09/2020 04:11

The last time I started a thread it got 0 responses. 🤷‍♀️

RomeoLikedCapuletGirls · 27/09/2020 04:26

OP I often start threads that get little to now traffic.

If they did intervene and stop your last thread from going Trending it’s probably because it was critical of MN. Hardly surprising.

wdub40 · 27/09/2020 04:29

@MolyHolyGuacamole

I guess being autistic is a factor.

I interpreted this as OP saying their autism is the reason why they feel the way they do about not trending.

Yes so did I
PelicanBill · 27/09/2020 07:33

I believe ‘Trending’ is governed by an algorithm, but that doesn’t mean it’s fair or unbiased. Lots of algorithms have been shown to be discriminatory in various ways, often because the programmer of the algorithm didn’t account for their own subconscious bias when programming how the algorithm works.

I’m not saying that’s what has caused OP’s threads to miss out on trending, but it’s always interesting to question whether a biased algorithm is at work.

Pobblebonk · 27/09/2020 07:53

My understanding is that Trending Now has nothing to do with the number of posts on a thread, and is purely due to the number of people clicking onto it and the amount of time they spend there.

It's not some accolade, it's just designed to draw people's attention to threads that might be of interest. MN can't put a thread into trending just for the sake of it or as some sort of "Well done" to the OP.

Bakeachocolatecaketoday · 27/09/2020 07:56

Active - this is a list of the last things people commented on so, as soon as I post this it will appear at the top of active

Trending - A combination of speed of comments appearing, time read, time on thread number of people reading. So a short thread with 10 instant responses will appear on trending, whereas a short thread with 10 responses over several days will not for example. Ditto a long thread where everyone who reads it comments, and comments appear slowly probably not in Trending, Long thread with lots of wathers and fast comments will appear

GreyishDays · 27/09/2020 07:58

Trending posts aren’t chosen manually. Smile

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 27/09/2020 08:22

I assumed trending was based on the most viewed threads?

So it's a case of the most clicks end up there rather than the most comments.
