I never have but now I’m tempted!

My mum when growing up would occasionally do marrow fat peas that you soak overnight for the Sunday dinner which was usually roast beef or lamb. Dh hates them but is fine with ordinary frozen peas so I just have mushy peas when having fish and chips when out or sometimes I open a tin of marrow fat peas to have with fish at home. I don't buy the actual mushy peas in a tin. You can get packets of marrow fat peas that you don't need to soak and just do in a saucepan.

Always had mushy peas with a roast dinner growing up - just isn’t a proper roast dinner without them!

maddiemookins16mum · 27/09/2020 07:33

That’s as bad as sweetcorn.

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 27/09/2020 07:37

What makes someone think they can dictate what others eat?

We don't have the Food Police.

We tend to have minted mushy peas with lamb or pease pudding with pork.

Love them with a roast dinner, are you the Mushy Pea Police?

pincertoe · 27/09/2020 07:39

Love mushy peas but not on a roast. Thats just weird.

GinWithRosie · 27/09/2020 07:56

Love proper mushy peas on my toast dinner...or served as a starter with home made Yorkshire Pudding, mint sauce and stuffing. Real taste of Yorkshire 🥰

GinWithRosie · 27/09/2020 07:57

Or even on my ROAST dinner 😂 I wouldn't have them on toast ☺️

ToastedEnglishMuffin · 27/09/2020 08:01

Yes, unacceptable. Like sweetcorn or cauliflower as veg with a roast. All wrong.

Neron · 27/09/2020 08:19

I love mushy peas on my roast dinner

Nottherealslimshady · 27/09/2020 08:22

We're having carrots, mushy peas and corn on the cob today. Tbf I'm pregnant, I want mushy peas, so we're having them.

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 27/09/2020 08:24

I've had creamed sweetcorn with turkey and chicken roast dinners.
I've had sweetcorn with roast chicken. They tasted fine and went well together.

BalanceGreen · 27/09/2020 08:25

Peas in any shape or form have no place on a Sunday lunch in my opinion

This. Ditto boiled potatoes.

Kolsch · 27/09/2020 08:31

I love mushy peas, but only home made ones.
I'll have them on my roast dinner, along with mashed potato and roasties.
Crowned with a Yorkshire pudding, made in a loaf tin which is filled with a delicious onion gravy 😋

Angelina82 · 27/09/2020 08:33

Yes, unacceptable. Like sweetcorn or cauliflower as veg with a roast. All wrong.

People have a problem with cauliflower with a roast dinner now?!! But cauliflower cheese is my favourite part of a roast! 😭

Ghostlyglow · 27/09/2020 08:33

@GinWithRosie I'm now thinking mushy peas on toast could work... Grin

Lurchermom · 27/09/2020 08:35

I would normally say no (as in YANBU) but I had this combo at a pub recently and it was wonderful! So YABU, it's a great match.

SerenDippitty · 27/09/2020 08:36

Nothing wrong with peas, mushy or otherwise, or cauliflower, cheese or otherwise with Sunday roast. But sweet corn????????? No no no.

Angelina82 · 27/09/2020 08:37

My ex husband used to have beetroot with his roast. Now that IS unacceptable but any other vegetable, as long as it’s cooked/hot, is fair game isn’t it? 🤷🏻‍♀️

SerenDippitty · 27/09/2020 08:40

I remember as a child hearing a strange fizzing noise coming from one of the kitchen cupboards. Turned out it was a stray pea soaking tablet that had got moistened by something and was starting to dissolve.

Riv12345 · 27/09/2020 08:41

I'm strange!!!!!

I like peas

But dnt like mushy peas

I know mushy peas are processed peas which I like but just dnt like them mushed

Oldraver · 27/09/2020 08:43

Yep my MIL used to do this and think it was such a fucking treat

SayWhatTheWhatNow · 27/09/2020 08:47

Sweet corn on a Sunday dinner really really offends me.
I'm not how I feel about mushy peas on a roast.......my first thought is absolutely not !

PunishmentSnart · 27/09/2020 08:54

Mushy peas on a butty with brown sauce is food of the gods.

Sometimes have them on a roast, but then again, I have cauliflower cheese, broccoli, carrot and turnip, creamed leeks, green beans, cabbage. I like loads Of veg with a roast and tend to make what I think will go with the meats I’m serving.

I had an ex boyfriend whose family had BEANS on their roast. Knew I could never marry into that family.

Those of you who have sweetcorn - why?

I love sweetcorn but it’s blowing my mind the thought of it with gravy!
