Not sure that I'll put up with this in autumn and winter. It was bad enough when our spring weather was not great.

OP posts:
minmooch · 26/09/2020 22:15

Never stopped queuing here in my part of Hertfordshire. Queues have been shorter but there at every shop. I don't mind if it gets us through this quicker.

ThatDamnScientist · 26/09/2020 22:20

@liverbird10

Grin What do you intend to do, scream "CHARGE!!!!!" and run headfirst into the poor sods on minimum wage who will be stuck manning the doors?
😂🤣 That made me laugh more than it probably should have!
Chickychickydodah · 26/09/2020 22:27

Queueing today at Morrison’s 😡

ThatDamnScientist · 26/09/2020 22:31

@Lovelivelaughcry

It's funny that a few have mentioned sainsbury's in particular. In my area that is the only store that had a queue long after all the others gave up with the queuing. Are they operating a different system to the others or something?? I didnt go there for weeks as they were the only one with a queue
I choose there because of the queues. They are still limiting numbers, makes me feel safer. DH works at ASDA and they have been abysmal all the way through. No number control (clicking a clicker after you have let too many through the door in the first place is a pointless task) amongst other things.
Procrastination4 · 26/09/2020 22:32

@Lipz

We've been queuing outside since March here in Ireland, can't remember the last time I just walked into a shop.
Not in Cork! We just walk into our local Super Valu (though they have covered walkways) Tesco’s (though they’re located in a shopping centre and therefore queues would be under cover anyway) and Dunnes (covered walkways too, but no queues). No shortages of anything in the supermarkets either.
Procrastination4 · 26/09/2020 22:34

And the shops are all fine inside too. Not crowded and everyone is wearing a mask.

Heffalooomia · 26/09/2020 22:34

there is no bad weather, there is only inappropriate clothing:o

liverbird10 · 26/09/2020 22:52

@MrsFezziwig OP didn't say it was specifically about supermarkets, though, did she? Confused

OllysArmy · 26/09/2020 22:56

Queued last week for Sainsbury’s but in reality it was just a slow walk to the door as everyone stopped to sanitise more than a waiting line.

Haven’t queued for Tesco or our M&S Food store since lockdown was relaxed and other shops opened, however I wish they would as the stores seem very busy now. Also I also have deliveries or pick ups booked and will use them as much as possible as it is likely that I will be soon be advised to take extra care.

Went out on a day trip to our big retail park this morning, no queue for M&S and the main store was like a ghost town, went for thermals before they sell out. The food hall was chaos mostly stocked Ok with only a few lines sold out, could get pasta but only the expensive loo roll. The line to pay was back up the rows again, plus loads of staff were either not wearing masks or had them under their noses.

middleager · 26/09/2020 23:00

I'll avoid it if I can by going off peak times, shopping online or local.stores.
Our massive Tesco was insane last time - it made nstional news - butnot once did I particpate in the madness.

Singinghollybob · 26/09/2020 23:04

There was a queue today at my local Tesco for the first time in ages, and they were rationing toilet rolls ro 3 per person. I dont know if they've been experiencing people to be stockpiling again, or just expecting it, but there was still plenty of stock on the shelves.

Deelish75 · 27/09/2020 08:25

I walked straight into my big Tesco on Wednesday (which had seen massive queues at the beginning). The store was fully stocked as well.
My big Sainsbury’s is inside a shopping centre with an underground car park, on Thursday there was a big queue through the centre and out into the car park (luckily I didn’t have to go in). I’ve got a delivery coming this morning, it’s got a few substitutes - I ordered a 1kg bag of sugar, they’re delivering 2 x 500g bags instead type of substitutes.

Ghostlyglow · 27/09/2020 08:40

Queues are back here. We walked past asda yesterday and people were coming out with armful of toilet rolls - ffsHmm

ihearttc · 27/09/2020 09:06

@Bagelsandbrie

I live in South Norfolk as well and our local Tesco has also started queuing again (I’m wondering if it’s the same one!). I also went to the big Tesco in our nearest city yesterday afternoon and there was no toilet roll at all, literally nothing!

Bagelsandbrie · 27/09/2020 09:13

@ihearttc maybe it is! The panic buying has definitely started again up here Sad

Laiste · 27/09/2020 09:36

No queue here. South Northants.

But Tesco is rationing loo roll, rice, pasta and nappies since last Thursday.

A good thing.

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 27/09/2020 09:52

I went to M&S, Sainsbury's and Asda yesterday. M&S was the least well-stocked so I need to try again this morning. Asda was very well stocked (even with loo roll whereas the aisle was decimated a few days ago). No queueing at any of these shops, although I do tend to visit later in the day.

I don't understand why the press harp on about people buying toilet rolls from Costco. At the branch in the city where I live, as soon as toilet rolls and kitchen rolls are on offer (which is fairly frequently) there are always trolleys loaded down with them.

I know they have individual members too (I am one of them) but at my local branch those with masses of them tend to be shopkeepers.

lazyarse123 · 27/09/2020 10:06

Our Morrisons are queuing again and it was so much better with less people in the store, but they didn't have any soup. Asda aren't queuing so far but they had no toilet roll.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 27/09/2020 10:31

I popped into the local Tesco Extra on Friday, and there were no empty shelves. Aldi was fine yesterday, again, no gaps in any of the essentials. The stores were busier than was comfortable though, especially Aldi.

Lockheart · 27/09/2020 10:39

Lots of toilet roll in the little Waitrose this morning when I went!

No indications of shortages here yet, although I was slightly put out as they had no parsnips.

MrsFezziwig · 27/09/2020 10:49

OP didn't say it was specifically about supermarkets, though, did she?

@liverbird10 no, but that is what the thread is about - and supermarkets sell essentials so common sense would dictate that there is no real need to queue to get in to the likes of Primark or Debenhams and hence no need for them to provide covered walkways.

But congratulations, I think you’ve definitely won the award for NitPicker of the thread.

DGRossetti · 27/09/2020 10:52

I hope they bring back the system where you queue in one place in the store and they send you to the next empty checkout. I swear that got people through quicker.

Morrisons did this (in contrast to Sainsburys). Adds to the feeling you are queuing for an attraction ...

IncyWincyGrownUp · 27/09/2020 11:14

I preferred the one queue checkout system, but it really pissed off the cheeky fuckers. I was directed to a till and a woman was just rolling up from somewhere random. She was incensed to be told she had to queue with everyone else. Apparently she didn’t see the point and just wanted to choose her own path. She did not get her way, and grumbled as she was escorted to the end of one of the two lines.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 27/09/2020 11:24

Very large Waitrose, plenty of stock but notices by things like tinned toms, pasta, loo rolls saying to be considerate and that there plenty of stock and to only buy what you need. Waitrose was the only place which seemed to have a good stock of all different flours all summer and still had them in. I did notice that the Dettol wipes were very expensive and was glad that I had bought supplies from Amazon when they had a good offer earlier in the year.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 27/09/2020 11:26

Whoops, wrong thread, I see this is about queuing, not stock, there weren't any queues either and usual security man counting people in.
