Back to Queuing Outside

Not sure that I'll put up with this in autumn and winter. It was bad enough when our spring weather was not great.

OP posts:
Echobelly · 26/09/2020 21:24

YANBU, but it was always pretty certain this was going to happen. We should just consider ourselves lucky we had such a warm, dry spring and summer.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 26/09/2020 21:24

No queuing around here either.

grenlei · 26/09/2020 21:28

No queues here. I actually wish there were because that would mean they were limiting the numbers in the store rather than the complete fucking free for all it is currently. No one round here bothers with social distancing - in my nearest supermarket today, as I observed a 2m distance from the person in front, the person behind me was literally 6 inches behind. I moved forward a bit and she followed.

I went out for a meal in the week and the pub made a massive hoohaa about how we had disposable menus, could only have 1 per table, etc, etc. Yet all the occupied tables were only a couple of feet apart at best! It's all so inconsistent.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 26/09/2020 21:31

I get an online delivery each week from Tesco but like to get some yummy treats from M&S or Waitrose each week, if it starts queueing I will just have to forgo yummy treats, though midweek was usually ok before.

JinglingHellsBells · 26/09/2020 21:33

My local waitrose has had a queuing system all along. They have always limited number of people inside. Sometimes the queue is tiny ( 6 max) and at other times there is none but there is always someone on the door saying if you can go in, or not.

I was told they were allowing 50 people in some weeks back but it would gradually rise to 65 or 70. Maybe now it's back to 50.

I find evenings are very quiet or I do click and collect.

tillytoodles1 · 26/09/2020 21:33

I live in North Wales, we have to queue all the time.

Lovemusic33 · 26/09/2020 21:34

I queued outside Sainsbury’s today, first time in a while but I was glad they had better measures in place then the last supermarket I went into (Lidl). They were making sure everyone was using anti bac and only letting in a certain amount of people.

Hokeywokey · 26/09/2020 21:34

I hate the fucking queuing. It gives me the rage.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 26/09/2020 21:34

The week or two before Christmas will be a horror, it is at the best of times

pandafunfactory · 26/09/2020 21:36

Small queue at Waitrose today but the place was stacked with food.

SantaClaritaDiet · 26/09/2020 21:39

If we are banned from mixing households and people only have to meal plan for their small unit, it might actually be quite pleasant for a change.
OfficeMonkee · 26/09/2020 21:40

Yanbu. There are good times to go, like early morning or 830 in the evening. Saturday daytime always gets the queues I think.

Milssofadoesntreallyfit · 26/09/2020 21:43

If I have to queue outside again I will, wont like it but heyho.

Just coming to the end of self isolation where one person in my household had symptoms but tested negative and I who had none were positive and another family I know are in exactly the same boat.

I have now experienced how unsettling and unclear everything is, it has threw a great big spanner in the works as to how I view the symptoms etc. I'm now cautious of everyone, self employed and cant afford another two weeks like this, my luck is only going to run so far.

Anything, no matter small that might help me avoid a repeat of the last two weeks and I'd gladly follow.

Madcats · 26/09/2020 21:45

My little city never got the big supermarkets that many did. The proliferation of local shops and traders that can deliver has served us well.

DGRossetti · 26/09/2020 21:46

Decided to pop into Morrisons after our shop at (no queuing) Sainsburys failed to secure frozen mash.

Noticed they were queuing and (only place I've noticed this) there was a sign saying maximum of 220 customers at once.

That said couldn't see any signs of panic buying. Nothing like the scenes back in March.

ivfbeenbusy · 26/09/2020 21:55

I don't get why flour is on people's list of panic buying? Kids are at school this time and lots of people back at work and not furloughed so surely less home baking and home made play dough going on??? Admittedly I did a lot of home baking in the last lockdown - this time I can't be arsed 🤷‍♀️ . The only item I will be panic buying is the tins of roses and celebrations that are in the shops now ready for Christmas!

nosswith · 26/09/2020 21:55

Queues are only on Mondays for banks or the first hour or two on a Saturday.

You are allowed to go shopping in the afternoon.

VillageGreenTree · 26/09/2020 21:56

Umm, you could wear a waterproof OP.

Meckity1 · 26/09/2020 21:59

I hope they bring back the system where you queue in one place in the store and they send you to the next empty checkout. I swear that got people through quicker.

A few days after the garden centres re-opened, I called in for ant powder and an employee at the front of the queue was doing card tricks.

Hokeywokey · 26/09/2020 22:00

Yes, but she can also be pissed off with the queuing. We don't all have to stand there in out rain macs and thermals and stupid masks and like it.
littledrummergirl · 26/09/2020 22:02

There are no stock shortages here and the only queuing that I have done in the last few months is for a very small but amazing haberdashery. They can only have two customers in the shop at a time and it's very popular.
Its the only shop I really go in for pleasure.

shitinmyhandsandclap · 26/09/2020 22:05

Huge queues in Costco, couldn't get toilet paper or pasta, yet people were walking out with trolley's full. There'll be rationing again soon

MrsFezziwig · 26/09/2020 22:10

Think I must live in a parallel universe as the only time I’ve queued was for ten minutes outside M & S at the beginning of April. Thought “sod this for a lark” and started going in the evening. Generally places are reasonable after about four o’clock when people start going home to give the kids their tea, and even quieter later in the evening.

If you “must” do your shopping on a Saturday morning then you’ve only got yourselves to blame (I realise I’m laying myself wide open to a recital of weird and wonderful scenarios as to why people can only do their shopping at 10 o’clock on a Saturday morning).

LadyLooLaa · 26/09/2020 22:11

I was going to come on to ask if I was the only one who bloody loved the queue! I loved the empty supermarket. I loved that you waited quietly whilst waiting for a till. I loved that when you got to a till there was no one rushing you. It was great.

Went to the supermarket today, no queue, no one way system. Also no shortages of goods, plenty of loo roll and soup.

I really wouldn’t mind going back.

MrsFezziwig · 26/09/2020 22:12

Who is going to pay for this to install these magical walkways outside stores while retailers are going bust left right and centre?

Can’t imagine that too many supermarkets are on the verge of going bust Confused
