Back to Queuing Outside

Not sure that I'll put up with this in autumn and winter. It was bad enough when our spring weather was not great.

Our Waitrose is back to queuing outside

Lotts123 · 26/09/2020 20:50

No queues outside around here, but lots of idiots panic buying. Shelves are empty of Loo roll, Pasta and I had to visit several places to find nappies. It’s so annoying!

FrankieStein402 · 26/09/2020 20:51

In my area sainsburys were the only one (out of asda, Morrisson, tesco) who continued to operate controls on the no of people in store (or rather in the first two aisles visible from the door) until mid August - hence the queues.

Legoandloldolls · 26/09/2020 20:54

I'm not up for queueing. I do click and collect. If I do a ( now rare) shopping trip I walk past if there is a queue or I will queue once or twice then I go home.

No reason to queue all day really. I dont want anything that badly and if I did, it's not daily. The odd queue is ok in the bigger picture

popcornlover · 26/09/2020 20:57

Bad weather will be the best time to shop as the queues will be at there shortest. Thick coat, hat, gloves, boots and umbrella and you'll be in in no time

It didn’t put anyone off where I live believe it or not! There were still the same massive queues, and not one put off by heavy rain.

Heyahun · 26/09/2020 21:01

I like it better as there ends up less in the shop and it’s easier to get around!

But to be honest if you host show up half hour before close there’s never a queue so I just go then

HelpIcantfindaname · 26/09/2020 21:04

Queues at some supermarkets here in North East. Some shops rationing toilet roll & flour. Baking shelves empty. Eggs in short supply in some shops. It's ridiculous. I'm self isolating as someone in my work bubble tested positive so I got an online delivery yesterday but quite a few things were missing. I shop for 2 households & work full time. I hope shopping is not going to take up too much weekend.

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 26/09/2020 21:04

The stores really ought to put up covered walkways. I nearly got blown away today in the carpark at Sainsburys. There’s NO WAY I’m going to stand outside in the the piss wet rain.

SantaClaritaDiet · 26/09/2020 21:06

The only place I ever have to queue is my kids school.

Are you trying to start panic buying with this thread?

BrutusMcDogface · 26/09/2020 21:07

Earlier on today I was in home bargains and it was PACKED. I’d rather queue outside than deal with that.

SantaClaritaDiet · 26/09/2020 21:07

People have been moaning enough about being stuck at home (even when we were allowed to exercise out once a day.... ). Of course now you will moan to be outside 🤦 FFS.

No wonder we have such horrendous traffic jams when there's one drop of rain. Talk about this country being resistant, it's embarrassing.

Amanduh · 26/09/2020 21:08

No flour or canned soup here today. Didn’t queue but saw the empty shelves then twigged. Ffs what is wrong with people?! Queues at Sainsburys though - and Matalan!

EasilyDeleted · 26/09/2020 21:09

Our Waitrose and Sainsburys had both started the queueing again today.

AliciaWhiskers · 26/09/2020 21:10

We’ve been queuing outside the whole time - it never stopped.

Parker231 · 26/09/2020 21:11

I’d rather the queues and restrictions on how many can enter at any one time. Better than the last weeks when people have been forgetting about social distancing.

Lipz · 26/09/2020 21:12

We've been queuing outside since March here in Ireland, can't remember the last time I just walked into a shop.

DryHeave · 26/09/2020 21:14

Wait till Christmas.

Serin · 26/09/2020 21:14

The only queues I have seen were outside Ralph Lauren and the Nike shop at Cheshire Oaks.

daisychain01 · 26/09/2020 21:15

@Givemeabreak88

I haven’t seen queues outside since the beginning, where is making you queue outside?
In the smaller towns where shops are much smaller - our Tesco, M&S Simply Food and Waitrose all have a queuing system. The security guard has a little hand held counter and as people leave the store he counts them down, and allows the same number of people to go in. Apparently they calculated that for their square footage, and allowing for movement of people around, plus queuing at the tills and social distancing, they can only allow 43 people in at a time (plus all staff).

It tailed off a lot as the summer went on, and the lockdown eased, but today it was back to a big long queue again! I'm sure it will settle down, it's only the current announcements that have unsettled people again, and they're back to wanting to make sure their cupboards are stocked and their toilet roll tower re-stacked

I do click and collect so I don't get involved in the madness!

Serin · 26/09/2020 21:16

Oh and IKEA.
The IKEA queue was seen from space Grin

Smashedavacado · 26/09/2020 21:19

It just means we need to be a bit more organised again. Parked in my local Waitrose today and was going to pick up a few bits. Saw the queue down the side of the building & decided to leave until my "big" shop tomorrow. Luckily our waitrose car park doesn't require a receipt to park 2 hrs for free!

SantaClaritaDiet · 26/09/2020 21:21

I think our local Ikea had horrendous queues for the first 2 or 3 days. A week later, it was blissfully quiet during the week.
WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 26/09/2020 21:22

@Quarantino

Earlier in the year I'm sure some stores said they'd initiate a car-queuing system in bad weather, so you don't need to get out of your car to queue to go in.
Waitrose were trialing something I thought where you book a shopping slot so you don’t have to queue but that was a month or so ago and haven’t heard anything since
liverbird10 · 26/09/2020 21:23

@CharlottesComplicatedWeb Good plan. Who is going to pay for this to install these magical walkways outside stores while retailers are going bust left right and centre?

Funkypolar · 26/09/2020 21:23

I shan’t be going to any high street shops. Online only!
