to feel cheesed off at being charged full price for reduced price boots

I bought some boots online from a well known, and I thought, good quality, boot seller. They were full price and cost me £160. When I got them they fit well so I wore them out. However, I then noticed that they had a sticker on the bottom saying they were in the sale and reduced to £89.

Whilst I know that I agreed to pay the full price, I can't help feeling that it does not help with customer good will to find out you have been charged full price for what were boots in the sale.

I've got another order of boots with them waiting to be delivered and I feel tempted to send them back as I feel a bit cheesed off.

I wouldn't expect to see a reduced sticker on the sole of footwear I'd bought online, only on some I'd bought in a shop in a sale. What's the point in putting a sticker on something sold online? It makes no sense Confused

I don't think they'll refund you anything OP, they don't have to under law as they weren't reduced when you bought them. It is infuriating though.

Crunchymum · 26/09/2020 16:18

Can't you reorder them at half price, send the unworn pair back with the full price receipt?

(Sorry not read all 4 pages so I'm sure this was suggested!!)

This is a delightfully cunning idea Grin

She could have done this if they were reduced after she'd bought them. But they were reduced before she bought them and they're currently selling at full price online.

They probably sent stock from a shop floor rather than a warehouse. Fat Face, Jigsaw and Crew Clothing all do this, undoubtedly others.
MintyMabel · 26/09/2020 16:41

160 is a lot of money to a lot of people

Yes, just waiting for someone to come along and suggest it’s the OP’s own fault for having the audacity to pay so much for a pair of boots. It’s as much as some people spend in a month on food don’t you know.....

GabsAlot · 26/09/2020 18:34

things go up and down all the time they prob just left the sticker on

i was about to buy somethng yesterday online got distracted and didnt checkout today its gone up-my tough luck i guess

Crunchymum · 26/09/2020 19:07

@Untangled87

You thwarted my plan.

Actually, I missed that rather important detail Blush

Tolleshunt · 26/09/2020 19:19

I think legally they don’t have to refund you, but they run the risk of losing your goodwill and future custom if they don’t.

Can you get the boots currently on order elsewhere? If so, I’d phone them and say you want to cancel the order, as you’re upset about them not refunding the difference on the first pair. It may change their minds, but be prepared for them to stick to their guns, meaning you have to order them from elsewhere.

I think smallsteps is just saying don't stress the small stuff, not that you shouldn't post trivial things on MN
I'm not quite sure why the sage of not sweating small stuff would have become so overly invested in this thread and people's responses to her though......

Anyway soles have obviously been worn, so can't return and I do really like them. Its way more than I would usually pay for boots (but have been looking for boots like this for over a year) so irritating to have seen they were for sale at some point at my normal maximum price. They are still at the full price on the website.

Can't you reorder them at half price, send the unworn pair back with the full price receipt?
I had a friend who bought a bag at Harvey Nicks and a week later saw it was massively reduced in the sale. Went to the shop, said 'I want to return this' got her money back and immediately said, ' I want to buy it back now at the sale price.' And they let her!

ps, when I say I worn them out, yes I just mean I wore them outside today. Just once. For a couple of hours.

I think you have that the wrong way round. People became overly invested in my comment, (anything for a chance to grab the pitchfork really Wink) they posted in response, mostly misinterpreting it, some deliberately, some because they love to goad and hold silly grudges, and so I replied. I am allowed to respond to comments about me, aren't I? Or are we not allowed to do that on MN either now as well as not answering AIBU questions with whether we think the person is UR or not? Confused

I will point out that despite accusations lobbied at me of derailing this thread, I haven’t been on it for over 5 hours and yet, the derailment continues with posts from others. Yourself included OP.

To clarify my comment (again, for those that need it) what I meant by, It isn’t worthy of a thread, is that I wouldn’t let something like this piss me off to the extent that I would need to write a thread about it. That’s a way to build it up into something bigger than it is and increase its impact on you. Is it annoying? Yes, slightly. And I would contact the retailer as you have done and ask if they would refund the difference. (Fully accepting that they didn’t have to) I certainly wouldn’t be looking to read anymore into it than a simple error and not that there was any ill will intended between a retailer and their customer. Don’t add stresses, small or big, to your life that don’t need to be there. Don’t take insult where there was none intended either.

And this shall be my last post on this thread, I do have right of response, and I’ve exercised it. Now you can accuse me of all you like to your heart’s content.

Gosh, that's a very long way of saying, ' I am different and special but others are petty over-reactors.'

What did the customer services say OP?

neversayalways · 27/09/2020 17:45

They've asked me to take a photo of the sales label and send it to them and they will look into it.

That’s great result !

Some things get reduced "out of seson" like boots in summer than go back to price in season, like autumn
