to feel cheesed off at being charged full price for reduced price boots

I bought some boots online from a well known, and I thought, good quality, boot seller. They were full price and cost me £160. When I got them they fit well so I wore them out. However, I then noticed that they had a sticker on the bottom saying they were in the sale and reduced to £89.

Whilst I know that I agreed to pay the full price, I can't help feeling that it does not help with customer good will to find out you have been charged full price for what were boots in the sale.

I've got another order of boots with them waiting to be delivered and I feel tempted to send them back as I feel a bit cheesed off.

Have you contacted them to ask them to refund the extra you paid?

ChaChaCha2012 · 26/09/2020 13:25

Has the sale ended? Not unusual for price to go up and down.

Moltenpink · 26/09/2020 13:25

Yes contact them, that’s really cheeky.

NameChange84 · 26/09/2020 13:25

Surely in this instance you contact customer services and complain?

Have you only wore them once? If there’s no noticeable damage send them back and get your refund.

vanillandhoney · 26/09/2020 13:30

Were they on sale when you bought them? Are they even on sale now? The price could be an error or it could be an old sale ticket.

It's quite normal for things to get reduced and then go back up in price. Stores are also under no obligation to charge you the reduced price just because that's what it says on the label.

neversayalways · 26/09/2020 13:40

Yes, I have contacted customer services. I realise I don't have a legal leg to stand on as I bought at the advertised price, but it just doesn't feel good to know they were previously cheaper. It just doesn't feel a wise thing to make clear to cusotmers you are now paying full price for what I now presume were last years' left overs.
As far as I was aware they were new stock for this season - guess not!

It’s clearly a mistake. Either the boots were meant to be sold at reduced price or the sale has ended and someone forgot to remove the sticker. It’s no big deal (certainly not worthy of a thread on MN!) you just contact them and point out the mistake, ask if you can expect a refund of the difference.

Not worthy of a thread on mn?! Says who, you?!

Some of us have zero family/friends to ask about stuff like this

neversayalways · 26/09/2020 13:47

certainly not worthy of a thread on MN!

Yes worthy of you replying to say its not worthy Hmm

Perhaps you could post a list of the criteria of 'worthy' mumsnet posts so I don't commit this faux pas again.

iklboo · 26/09/2020 13:49

When you say you 'wore them out' do you mean outside or so often they needed replacing?

Smallsteps88 · 26/09/2020 13:51

Yep! Grin

Look. Get yourself all riled up over a tiny mistake if you want. It’s your own head you’re annoying. Alternatively, don’t. Your choice. I know which will make you happier.

You misunderstand. I’m not saying this doesn’t qualify for a MN thread. I’m saying it shouldn’t be annoying you enough to have you creating a thread about it.

SantaClaritaDiet · 26/09/2020 13:53

certainly not worthy of a thread on MN!

😂
there's always one. Thank you for the laugh.

burglarbettybaby · 26/09/2020 13:53

What is wrong with mumsnet lately? Of course it's worthy of a thread ConfusedHmm

160 is a lot of money

when you spend £160 on a pair of boots, as opposed to a tenner on a pair of flip flops, you could understand why.

MiniMum97 · 26/09/2020 13:54

I didn't realised there was a level of riled you needed to be before you could post on MN. Must go back through my old threads and delete most of them immediately. Ffs post what you want OP and ignore the MN thread police.

CheetasOnFajitas · 26/09/2020 13:56

You mean that you have worn them once outside, not that you have worn them so much that they are now “worn out”, right? In other words, you only just bought them?

What does the website say the price is right now?

SoUtterlyGroundDown · 26/09/2020 13:57

@Smallsteps88

I’ve read your last post and still think you’re talking shit. Why wouldn’t it annoy the OP? They’ve sold her something at full price that they were obviously previously trying to sell at half price. £160 is a lot of money to a lot of people. Unless they reply saying it was a mistake, how do you know it was a mistake?

You don’t even try and hide it do you?

BikeRunSki · 26/09/2020 13:59

Surely, they were sale stock and sale has now ended? Lots of places do “flash” sales.

Smallsteps88 · 26/09/2020 13:59

Unless they reply saying it was a mistake, how do you know it was a mistake?

You think they deliberately left the sticker on to let their customer know they could have had them for less money?

Smallsteps88 · 26/09/2020 14:00

I mean that’s just inviting hassle for themselves isn’t it? Why would a retailer do that intentionally?

SantaClaritaDiet · 26/09/2020 14:01

Smallsteps88

are you miffed that someone can afford to spend £160 on a pair of boots and you can't, is that it?

(wait for the "I only ever buy £1000 boots myself, I have a 12 figures salary don't you know" reply back...)
