to feel cheesed off at being charged full price for reduced price boots

neversayalways · 26/09/2020 13:23

I bought some boots online from a well known, and I thought, good quality, boot seller. They were full price and cost me £160. When I got them they fit well so I wore them out. However, I then noticed that they had a sticker on the bottom saying they were in the sale and reduced to £89.

Whilst I know that I agreed to pay the full price, I can't help feeling that it does not help with customer good will to find out you have been charged full price for what were boots in the sale.

I've got another order of boots with them waiting to be delivered and I feel tempted to send them back as I feel a bit cheesed off.

Reminds me when my dc were school age, many years ago, l went to well known dept store one Saturday to buy all their uniforms for the upcoming new term. As l was walking out the door with my purchases of boy and girl complete uniforms, two of everything, along with extra shirts, socks, tights etc. it came over the tannoy that 'Happy Hour' was now starting (they used do it randomly once a week) and everything was half price for next hour. I went back to the till and asked if l could have my transaction cancelled please and pay again as l had missed the promotion by minutes. They predictably refused so l went up to customer service, returned everything on grounds my mum had already bought everything unbeknown to me then went back round grabbed everything again queued up and paid half price.

LoveEatYoga · 26/09/2020 14:32

If the sale was on at the time you bought them but they charged you the full price in error then I would have thought they would give you your money back

If it is an old or misplaced sticker then you have no right to want them at that price as prices go up and down and things can end up with the wrong sticker on especially as you bought them with no expectation of that lower price.

Smallsteps88 · 26/09/2020 14:38

I have read. Are you a bit controlling IRL. To actually take the time out of your day to tell someone that what they are angry about isn't worthy of a thread is sad. AND before you say read, I have and that's what you said.

No. You clearly haven’t read all my posts.

Bahhhhhumbug · 26/09/2020 14:40

Oh and of course l went back to the same cashier that had so triumphantly told me it was just tough luck and absolutely nothing could be done.

Yawn.

I've read all your posts. I honestly don't know what you are getting out of this. You've completely derailed the thread because of your insistence that it was not worthy and I quote "It’s no big deal (certainly not worthy of a thread on MN!)". It may not be a big deal to you but obviously was to the poster.

SantaClaritaDiet · 26/09/2020 14:44

@iklboo

Bloody hell these things derail quickly, don't they?
they do! Grin

All you need is a self-appointed thread Police poster who loves to snark at posters because they have nothing better to do.

Note that they are sticking to that minor thread instead of going to more worthy threads to impose their wisdom there..

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 26/09/2020 14:44

I also thought you meant you'd worn them out already, hadn't realised you meant used them outside.

I don't think you'll get anywhere if they've been worn outside but I'd get onto customer service, tell them about the reduced sticker and what you paid for them and see what they say.

Smallsteps88 · 26/09/2020 14:45

You've completely derailed the thread

I have?? Grin try again.

Hingeandbracket · 26/09/2020 14:46

certainly not worthy of a thread on MN!

Grin how pompous.

Smallsteps88 · 26/09/2020 14:46

Grin @SantaClaritaDiet

Smallsteps obviously just likes to wind people up as she thinks she's funny/witty/clever/interesting.

Just an attention seeker.

Ah but you did by posting what you did knowing people would be immediately annoyed about. Instead we should used the advice 'don't feed the troll'. Good day.

I’ll bet the OP is glad you’ve taken the time to comment, Smallsteps88 Confused.

emilyfrost · 26/09/2020 14:53

I realise I don't have a legal leg to stand on as I bought at the advertised price, but it just doesn't feel good to know they were previously cheaper.

You do realise prices fluctuate all the time, right?

You sure showed that member of staff who had probably only been doing what they were told! Well done!

Untangled87 · 26/09/2020 15:04

If you're talking about somewhere like Clarks, then they reduce their boots at the end of the season, then bring the same style back at full price in time for autumn. So they're not ripping you off. It's like plane tickets - you might pay £160 for a seat and then find out the person next to you only paid £89 because they booked at an earlier or later date than you.

But as the cheaper price sticker was still on the boots, I definitely would have done the same as you and asked if they would refund the difference. And they might well refund you as a goodwill gesture. But if not, well you were happy to pay £160 for the boots, you liked them and thought they were worth the money (otherwise you wouldn't have decided to keep them). So just think of it like that.

Sparklfairy · 26/09/2020 15:05

I'm just here for the deletion message.

'We're going to take this thread down now because Smallsteps88 says so'

nettie434 · 26/09/2020 15:08

When the difference between the sale price and the price neversayalways paid is £71, I think it's totally reasonable for her to a) feel irritated she didn't see the sale price and b) wonder whether she can ask for a refund. I think I read that when the non essential shops closed, they put aside a lot of stock ready to bring it out later. I wonder if your boots were in the sale in March and have been brought out again at full price.

I'm old enough to remember pre barcode days when we spent ages prising off old stickers. No wonder some shops use barcodes only - you would never have known otherwise.

I think it's worth a try. You could always make it clear you have another pair of boots on order as they may decide it's worth giving you a voucher or something.

Iamthewombat · 26/09/2020 15:10

I clicked on this thread expecting to read an interesting debate about invitation to treat etc etc but instead found a rather unpleasant pile on of posters having a go at @Smallsteps88. It’s not nice. She has explained what she meant. Let it go.

Susannahmoody · 26/09/2020 15:12

I'm flouncing.

I'm clearly not worthy

EinsteinaGogo · 26/09/2020 15:14

@category12

Sorry, you bought £160 boots and have worn them so much you have worn them out - and only now realise they had a sale sticker on them?!

If you've only had them a short time and they wore out, why on earth would you be ordering more boots from them? And if you had them for ages, how can you possibly be that unobservant? Hmm

Worn them out(doors).

slashlover · 26/09/2020 15:19

Oh and of course l went back to the same cashier that had so triumphantly told me it was just tough luck and absolutely nothing could be done..

The more I reread this, the angrier I get. YOU are the reason that I left retail. The cashier had probably had it drummed into her that refunds could not be given so customers could re-buy items, she had probably been warned about breaking the polciy. You went to CS and lied to get a refund then deliberately went to the same cashier to act smug and rub it in her face. That's almost as bad as when managers back down and let the customer do what they want, so the customer acts all smug to the poor cashier who was only doing their job as they had been trained.

category12 · 26/09/2020 15:20

Yes, I got that explained to me earlier, Einsteinagogo. Grin

SquashedSpring · 26/09/2020 15:45

You bought the boots at the advertised price, which you must have thought was reasonable at the time. I don't think discovering that they were previously available at a lower price is grounds for a partial refund.

Prices go up and down all the time based on demand. Argos stands out as a shop that seems to have a constant cycle of reducing and increasing the price of things.
