to feel cheesed off at being charged full price for reduced price boots

I bought some boots online from a well known, and I thought, good quality, boot seller. They were full price and cost me £160. When I got them they fit well so I wore them out. However, I then noticed that they had a sticker on the bottom saying they were in the sale and reduced to £89.

Whilst I know that I agreed to pay the full price, I can't help feeling that it does not help with customer good will to find out you have been charged full price for what were boots in the sale.

I've got another order of boots with them waiting to be delivered and I feel tempted to send them back as I feel a bit cheesed off.

I’d be equally pissed off Op. YANBU. Hope the retailer show you some goodwill.
Ignore the weird thread police. You can post about whatever you damn-well like.

Smallsteps88 · 26/09/2020 14:04

Oh @SantaClaritaDiet, you are embarrassing yourself. That thread is done. Get over it. This is very silly.

Pinkshrimp · 26/09/2020 14:05

I had this once. The company said the sticker was on in error as the item had never been sold at that price so tough luck. It annoyed me enough to engage in several back and forth emails but it never got me anywhere.

Shizzlestix · 26/09/2020 14:07

It’s no big deal (certainly not worthy of a thread on MN!)

Blimey, thread police! 🚓 There are hundreds of incredibly minor things posted on here. It”s a public forum, people can post what they like. If it”s too trivial for your tastes, don’t bother replying!

OP, I hope they return some money, that would be the right thing for them to do, IMO.

category12 · 26/09/2020 14:07

Sorry, you bought £160 boots and have worn them so much you have worn them out - and only now realise they had a sale sticker on them?!

If you've only had them a short time and they wore out, why on earth would you be ordering more boots from them? And if you had them for ages, how can you possibly be that unobservant? Hmm

Smallsteps88 · 26/09/2020 14:08

If it”s too trivial for your tastes, don’t bother replying!

Again, not the point I was making. Which I have already clarified.

MsPeachh · 26/09/2020 14:10

Wore them out of the house, I think!

category12 · 26/09/2020 14:11

Oh that would make more sense Grin

vanillandhoney · 26/09/2020 14:11

@neversayalways

Yes, I have contacted customer services. I realise I don't have a legal leg to stand on as I bought at the advertised price, but it just doesn't feel good to know they were previously cheaper. It just doesn't feel a wise thing to make clear to cusotmers you are now paying full price for what I now presume were last years' left overs. As far as I was aware they were new stock for this season - guess not!
They might not necessarily be old stock.

I used to work clothing retail and we often had "mid season sales" with temporary reductions - stuff would go down a little, then anything leftover went back up to full price and continued through until the end of season sale.

It's fairly normal to have temporary reductions. It's annoying the sticker as left on but it is what it is. You were happy to pay £160 but if you no longer want them at that price, just return them and wait until the next sale.

vanillandhoney · 26/09/2020 14:12

I didn't see you'd worn them outside. In that case, they won't accept a return unless they're faulty.

p0ptart · 26/09/2020 14:13

[tries to break up bunfight]

I think smallsteps is just saying don't stress the small stuff, not that you shouldn't post trivial things on MN. Let's face it, most posts on MN are as trivial as they come.

I also think I'd be very cross in this situation OP, and demanding that customer service refunds me the difference. Sometimes contacting them on Twitter or Facebook messenger yields a more positive outcome.

Enrico · 26/09/2020 14:14

It's not just boots; the price of everything jumps up and down all the time and it's annoying. I would contact them op, maybe in a faux naive way - start by saying you believe the price you bought them for was incorrect because clearly they cost £89 as that's what they're marked as and could they assist.

If they don't help and you can find them cheaper and it's not obvious you've worn them outside, send them back for a refund.

If any of those three factors don't apply, well, you got the boots you wanted for a price you were willing to pay before you discovered this, and presumably you like them.

Sucks though.

Smallsteps88 · 26/09/2020 14:15

Exactly this.

StanfordPines · 26/09/2020 14:15

@Smallsteps88

Perhaps you could post a list of the criteria of 'worthy' mumsnet posts so I don't commit this faux pas again.

You misunderstand. I’m not saying this doesn’t qualify for a MN thread. I’m saying it shouldn’t be annoying you enough to have you creating a thread about it.

So it is something that you have deemed acceptable to make a thread about, however you don't think that this poster should have let it annoy them enough to make a thread about it? Who can make a thread about this then?

About the actual issue, I'd be miffed too OP and I would contact them, but then I am my mother's daughter who is a bugger for things like this. She once had the department manager for Harrod's on the phone over something she bought not being discounted properly.

SpecialWGM · 26/09/2020 14:16

@Smallsteps88

It’s clearly a mistake. Either the boots were meant to be sold at reduced price or the sale has ended and someone forgot to remove the sticker. It’s no big deal (certainly not worthy of a thread on MN!) you just contact them and point out the mistake, ask if you can expect a refund of the difference.
Says who? Are the MN police?
Smallsteps88 · 26/09/2020 14:18

Read, people! Read!

No, she means she has worn them outside.

It's not up to him or her to tell the OP what to stress about.

SpecialWGM · 26/09/2020 14:25

@Smallsteps88

So because it's an AIBU you think it's okay to tell the OP that she shouldn't get stressed and the thread is meaningless. FFS.
Smallsteps88 · 26/09/2020 14:26

Right. So now on MN we are no longer allowed to answer an OPs question. Got it.

An no one said her thread was meaningless. Again, read.

billy1966 · 26/09/2020 14:28

Well that would bug me too OP.Flowers

I have read. Are you a bit controlling IRL. To actually take the time out of your day to tell someone that what they are angry about isn't worthy of a thread is sad. AND before you say read, I have and that's what you said.
iklboo · 26/09/2020 14:31

Bloody hell these things derail quickly, don't they?
