AIBU to think silicon could end the toilet brush debate once and for all?

I was bought up in a No Brush household. I have no idea how the toilet got clean. Bodily functions of all kinds were unmentionable.

Fast-forward to having three children, and faced with the reality of wiping their shit off the toilet bowl (and, now they are old enough, asking them to reliably wipe their shit off the toilet bowl) I was forced to revisit my deeply held distaste for the toilet brush. I gave in, bought a couple, and yes, they rapidly became every bit as revolting as you would expect. But what to do?

Enter the silicon toilet brush! Effective, never get dirty, and somehow (I don't know how) you never, ever end up with poo water in the holder. I got mine from Amazon, they were only £6.99 and they seem to last forever.

Could the silicon toilet brush finally bridge the divide between two of mumsnet's longest standing factions?

My cleaner requested toilet brushes instead of the toilet duck paper things that you attached to a long handle as she said they wasn't cleaning the toilet properly.

I had got rid of the toilet brush as dh was a nuisance for creating a poo water at the bottom of the holder as he never rinsed the brush properly.

As i didnt want the toilet brush to have poo on it only the cleaner is allowed to use it.

So the toilet duck things are used for poo by dh and the toilet brush is used for the regular cleaning were no poo is in the toilet bowl!

Is that what I saw in Lidl today? Think it was about £6. Thought it was an unusual shape. Might go back and check it out tomorrow.

Tell me more about the Eufy robot. I have been looking at robotic hoovers for ages but some seem so expensive.
I use a days on stick at the moment and I am forever hoovering as I have three white cats.

I spray my bowl with essential oils daily.......the oil stops shit sticking.

Once a week it gets a full scrub, it's where the washing up sponge goes on its final mission before being binned. Hell would freeze over before I'd have a loo brush of any description

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 24/09/2020 15:42

Even the Joseph one does not stay, ahem, untainted.
A few years back I bought a new toilet called the Ella 'everclean' with the saleswoman person telling me "the shit won't stuck to the pan". It did actually stay clean for about 5 years. No skiddies ever but now it has the occasional marks which I clean off with my Joseph silicon toilet brush.

That's genius, I never thought of that!

If this is an amazon advert then it’s brilliant as I’ve just bought one 🤣

QuestionableMouse · 24/09/2020 15:50

I rinse my normal cheap loo brush in the bleachy water in the loo so it's clean when it goes back in the holder. Honestly don't get the angst over them.

Squirt bleach. Scrub loo and any offending stains. Flush loo, holding brush under the flowing water. Add more bleach. Rinse brush in bleach water. Return to holder.

Literally takes five minutes.

ilovebedtimestories · 24/09/2020 15:52

I love the oil idea

QuestionableMouse · 24/09/2020 15:52

@Mol1628

I also need to know if these are good on lime scale. Very hard water area and that’s it’s main use. I do like the idea of them though.
You need one of these for limescale

I bought a brand new loo brush for brand new loo and hadn’t even used it...
I have a 50p Ikea one for using when loo is clean.
DS popped over and said “ there is crap all over your loo brush!!!!”

I said there wasn’t as only ever use it for scrubbing clean loo- and he said “ not that one, the other one”

I looked and heaved.

A man had used my loo, and must have used the brush.

I was so grossed out.
I threw it away but I’d love to ban all visitors from loo if possible.
Who the heck leaves shite all over someone’s loo brush?
Grim.

If you are posting in AIBU you really do need to do the opposite of what you are doing, because you are wrong.

Anywhere else, if you have one, you are wrong, if you don't you are wrong.

TheBoots · 24/09/2020 15:56

I'm always bemused about how the loo brush debate centres on skid marks...what do the no loo brush people do about limescale??? We live in a very hard water area and without a good scrub with a loo brush we'd have awful discolouration in no time. Do all no loobrushers live in soft water areas?

inappropriateraspberry · 24/09/2020 15:58

I have a Lidl one. Much better than bristles. Doesn't drip and gets into the corners better!

Hangingwithmygnomies · 24/09/2020 15:59

I have just bought this one - even has a bit to clean under the rim. I tried living without a toilet brush but with 2 DS I just couldn't do it Envy

AlCalavicci · 24/09/2020 16:00

@Proudboomer
All you need to know about Eufys ( be warned by the time you have read this you will be getting your credit card out Grin )

Spermysextowel · 24/09/2020 16:01

I have a Joseph Joseph one that has a space at the back for putting a bottle of bleach/toilet cleaner in (so long as the bottle isn’t enormous).
To begin with I kept the old bristle one to clean the Joseph one, but binned it in the end as unnecessary, as well as sad.

AlternativePerspective · 24/09/2020 16:01

What kind of essential oils to spray and where to get them?

Toilet brushes are revolting. But back in the day wen I had one I would rinse it in the bleached water, flush the loo and run it under the flushing water, and put neat bleach in the holder to keep it germ free. But they’re still horrible.

Now I buy the flushable ones. No not environmentally that friendly but I’d rather that than end up with whatever germs emerge from a toilet brush....

Tell me about these Eufy robots. How tall are they? I need one which will go under my furniture - the gap is probably about three inches or so. The Roomba wouldn’t go under it, but my cheap vilida one does...

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 24/09/2020 16:01

ilove I used to make my own as my nan was well into that stuff but I buy a spray call poodeloo from home bargains now.......it's basically the vipoo spray that some use before having a poo but I just spray it in the bowl as I've always done.

SecretWitch · 24/09/2020 16:02

Thanks to this thread, I hopped on amazon and ordered a silicone loo brush. This is far too much excitement for me!

oakleaffy · 24/09/2020 16:02

@TheBoots
I live in a really hard water area- bleach and limescale removers are your friends!
Hard water is a pain- mum moved to a house with water softeners but it can’t be used for drinking
Lovely lather when hand washing though and zero skids.
Maybe some people are more prone to skids than others?
A family of 5 would wreak hell in a hard water area.😳😂

heymacaroner · 24/09/2020 16:04

I have an ordinary toilet brush and I keep the container bit filled with a mixture of bleach & water. I've never had an issue with it getting gross

Flynn999 · 24/09/2020 16:05

I’ve got a silicone one, it’s actually really good. The bristles don’t have shit particles clinging to it, and scrub a really well.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 24/09/2020 16:06

The spray I buy costs 49p so not expensive but I used to use tea tree oil mixed with a base such as olive oil / almond oil or even baby oil will do. Then just spray onto the porcelain.

It survives a few flushes so shouldn't need doing more than once.
