My supervisor calls me in for a gen performance meeting after my holiday(before lockdown)
She tells me im doing great, the odd mistake here & there but great otherwise, im popular & hardworking. Then we start the general chit chat and she mentions the one negative to take away:
i eat too much fruit and its for everyone (the company pays)
There was a lot of fruit left when i was on holiday apparently
(No mention that over 50% of people were absent then- one sacked and the account and director also off)
Granted i have the occasional piece too much but i was miffed

AIBU to feel this way?

How can you not know how many pieces of fruit you are eating in a typical day?

Elsewyre · 24/09/2020 09:29

@bctf123

i didnt count how many pcs i was eating but not even 2 peoples worth
If you have to "count" it's too many

Rule of thumb free stuff is one, unless its birthday cakes then it's as much as you can eat then and there but you cant take a packet to your locker to take home

Elsewyre · 24/09/2020 09:30

People are shockingly bad at self reporting their food intake, it's why you have to take all the diet threads of "I only eat xyz" with a huge pinch of salt
Hingeandbracket · 24/09/2020 09:33

YABU not to be arsed putting a proper title in your OP, OP.

JamesTKirkcompatible · 24/09/2020 09:33

Agree @Elsewyre but you know if you have more than one bit of fruit?!

Florencex · 24/09/2020 09:37

Some people do swipe more than their fair share of the fruit. You have admitted that you do and clearly it has been noticed. You need to adjust your behaviour.

YABU in taking too much fruit. YA also BU In being miffed that somebody raised it with you, nobody would make up a criticism like that for no reason

bctf123 · 24/09/2020 09:38

we have a large basket & few staff. We all eat 2+

OP posts:
Imloosingmyshit · 24/09/2020 09:40

It’s for everyone. So if there’s 10 pieces of fruit for 15 people, maybe DONT have 2 or 3 pieces??

bctf123 · 24/09/2020 09:40

you dont know her or have evidently not worked with this type of colleague

The ‘one piece only’ rule for free food is context dependent, surely? We get a free fruit box at my work. There are 8 of us in the office and the box contains 60 pieces of fruit. If we all only ate 1 piece a day, a third of it would be going to waste every week. And given that not everyone eats the free fruit, it’s more than reasonable for some people to be eating 2+ pieces per day.

northbacchus · 24/09/2020 09:49

I think take one piece per day, then if there is still enough left for everyone to get an extra piece, then you could maybe take two pieces!

sqirrelfriends · 24/09/2020 10:08

@VeraPink same, I think the people being nasty to OP don't have anything similar at their work.

2 pieces seems fine to me but it depends on how much they send and for how many people, also how much wastage there is. There's always loads wasted at my work so no one would bat an eyelid at someone eating 3 pieces.

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 24/09/2020 10:11

All very petty but then it Sounds like you know you may take a bit more than your fair share. Also maybe she’s Actually trying to do you a favour - read between the lines and maybe the whole office has noticed and gossiped about it While you were away and she’s just gently bringing It to your attention !

namechangeinamillion · 24/09/2020 10:12

I think you're lying when you say you don't know how much fruit you're eating. Come on you must know.
Are you taking a few bits back to your desk first thing? Really it would be reasonable to take one bit in the morning then if there was still plenty left, take another bit in the afternoon.

Brefugee · 24/09/2020 10:23

Just eat one piece and if you want more buy your own.

Nymeriastark1 · 24/09/2020 10:25

Why are you avoiding telling us how much fruit you've eaten? 2+ could mean 3 or 23.

bctf123 · 24/09/2020 10:28

because it was a year ago & we dont count in our office. i may eat none somedays

Sorry but coming in with her being bully only AFTER everyone said YABU makes it a bullshit. Not impressive. 4/10 starts for trying. 😂

sapnupuas · 24/09/2020 10:35

This whole thread is weird.

Bluntness100 · 24/09/2020 17:03

The fact you can’t count how much you eat would indicate you eat a lot. Most peoooe can remember what they eat.

I suspect you’re just fucked off she’s noticed and pointed it out to you.

Our office sometimes does free fruit or drinks or something as some form of motivator for staff and there is always one because it’s “free” fill their faces. It’s the same behaviour you see on all inclusive holidays basically.
