Charles and Di's wedding.
I remember my Mum saying the dress looked like it needed ironing!

Knittingnanny · 23/09/2020 22:26

JFK for me too, I was in the back garden of my grandmas house playing with my little sister and heard my dad and grandma talking about it. Can’t remember much news after that until the men walked on the moon!

Iwasonceabrownie · 23/09/2020 22:26

The death of King George V1. I'm old.

Mintychoc1 · 23/09/2020 22:26

Margate Pier.
It had been irreparably damaged by a storm so it had to be destroyed, and council kept trying to blow it up, but it wouldn’t come down. Every day on John Craven’s Newsround they updated us on the pier that just wouldn’t collapse!

Hufflypuf · 23/09/2020 22:26

I vividly remember sitting down to watch the Grand National with my mum and then suddenly it was cancelled because of a bomb scare. Must have been around 1996/97. I couldn't understand why all the ladies in the fancy hats were crying and my mum told me they were sad because they had to be seperated from their horses!

BlackeyedSusan · 23/09/2020 22:26

slag is the stuff dug out of a coal mine that is not coal. there are slag heaps all over mining areas.

I remember the powercuts in the early seventies.

The first news story was at infant school and the Yorkshire ripper I think.

shivbo2014 · 23/09/2020 22:29

Jamie Bulger. Remember watching it on the tv and I was the same age as the murderers, I just couldn't believe someone my age would do such a thing. I still think about it alot.

Actually Zeebrugge was before Berlin Wall and I remember that well as we always went by ferry on holiday and it terrified me.

ColourMeExhausted · 23/09/2020 22:31

The Challenger, and Zeebrugge. Both gave me nightmares.

Death of Elvis - I was 7 and remember we'd just come home from holiday & paper was lying in the hall (dm must have ordered delivery to restart) with the headline. I cried, but I don't really know why! Confused
