Hillsborough disaster in April 1989, I would have been 7.

Sarahlou63 · 23/02/2021 17:58

Richard Nixon resigning. Watched it on a tiny TV in a caravan park at Aintree race course [random]

Although I was 'aware' of Thatcher and all the damage she was doing.

Keepcountingyourfingers · 23/02/2021 18:17

Something to do with guerilla warfare and me wondering why gorillas were fighting. I was probably about 9.

9/11. I was 16. Didn't pay much attention to the news before that age really!

RunAwayNow · 23/02/2021 18:21

Not sure which came first but it was either Challenger exploding or Andrew and Fergie's wedding.

Letsgomaths · 23/02/2021 19:29

I remember my parents’ excitement about Thatcher resigning, and the re-unification of Germany. 🇩🇪

At a carnival, I remember someone giving me a badge saying “I won’t pay poll tax”, although I didn’t know what it meant.

jimmyjabs that's the one! He worked for Babcock and was the chief engineer.

Sevensilverrings · 24/02/2021 20:48

1984 Scottish Miners’ strikes during scorching summers. They used to march past our windows, and lots of family involved, so hard to ignore. We’d sit up after bedtime and peek into the lounge to watch the nine o’clock news to find out if the TV cameras caught us waving. (They never did)!
Reports about the nuclear arms race and the Cold War. How to hide under the table. Scared me rigid.

Meatshake · 24/02/2021 21:54

Fire at Windsor castle in 1992. Lived locally and had been near the castle the week before so must have stuck in my 5 year old mind
