Moorgate tube crash (old gimmer)

pastabest · 23/09/2020 22:04

Major taking over from Thatcher. I remember getting the impression from the news that she had been made to leave and didn't want to and I felt very sad for her and thought it was very mean of the men that were making her do it.

I have a really vivid memory of watching it on TV and the green carpet we had in the house we lived in at the time.

I was 4.5 years old.

pylongazer · 23/09/2020 22:04

James Bulger. I was 7

Handsnotwands · 23/09/2020 22:05

Armenian earthquake

Murphs1 · 23/09/2020 22:05

Zeebrugee, it was so tragic. I was in my last year of senior school and remember the news reports showing pictures of the ferry listing on its side

Ratherembarrassed2020 · 23/09/2020 22:05

Dunblane

seabreeze77 · 23/09/2020 22:06

President Kennedy’s assassination.

OhTheRoses · 23/09/2020 22:06

Aberfan. I must have been five or six and watched it on the news with my grandma. It was a school. It resonated. Have never forgotten it.

Then I remember the 10 day war, mostly because a family holiday to Israel had to be cancelled. Again I was about six and I remember standing at the window looking at a streetlight when my dad told me the holiday was off. And feeling really really sad but not being able to crystallize exactly why.

deflationexasperation · 23/09/2020 22:06

Good idea op!

I remember watching the San Francisco bridge hanging in the earth quake and also grace Kelly funeral. Not sure which one came first.

NaePies · 23/09/2020 22:06

James Bulger
Think of his family a lot

MustWe · 23/09/2020 22:07

Charles and Diana’s wedding. I was 3 and playing in the garden when my Mum called me in to watch it on the TV.

booandbumpp · 23/09/2020 22:07

The first one that comes into my head is 9/11 - as in I remember watching it on the telly and my mum walking in and thinking I was watching a really violent film.

TheEC · 23/09/2020 22:07

Twin towers

blubberball · 23/09/2020 22:08

I remember hearing a lot of Yugoslavia and Bosnia on the news. Princess Diana being killed.

ParisianLady · 23/09/2020 22:08

Lockerbie. I was very young and I vividly remember the imagine of the cockpit broken in the field and asking my parents about it.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 23/09/2020 22:08

The Berlin Wall falling.

NickMarlow · 23/09/2020 22:08

John Major replacing Margaret Thatcher as PM.

And the Gulf War. Mainly because I had no idea where it was and genuinely thought there would be a war in my town.

bellinisurge · 23/09/2020 22:09

1969 moon landing. I was under 3 but I distinctly remember older siblings and parents being excited about it and pointing out the moon to me.

Didyeaye · 23/09/2020 22:09

The Dunblane shooting

willitbetonight · 23/09/2020 22:09

Challenger.

DuesToTheDirt · 23/09/2020 22:09

The moon landing.

LomasLongstrider · 23/09/2020 22:09

I think it was the abduction and murder of Sarah Payne. I was the same age as her (8 years old), and it was discussed a lot in school (amongst the kids).

unchienandalusia · 23/09/2020 22:09

Maggie getting elected. First female prime minister. I was 6. I thought it rocked.
