To ask when your D.C. lost their first tooth

DD has just surprised me with a missing tooth. She was only 5 last week! I was expecting it later this year or next, and she still feels very young Sad. What age did your DCs start to lose their teeth?

Is there any connection with early tooth loss and early puberty? (Someone said to me tonight that girls get their first period at double the age they lose their first tooth and that would only be 10, so now I’m a bit panicky that can’t be right, surely an old wives tale??)

My DD was a month or 2 before 5th birthday, by DS much much later.

MiddleClassProblem · 23/09/2020 20:35

DD lost her first two over the summer at 5.5. A few others in her year had lost some during lockdown, all reception age.

kittykat35 · 23/09/2020 20:37

Dd was 6.5 when she lost hers.

I don't know how true that correlation with their period is but I did get my period at age 10 so it happens.

Trinpy · 23/09/2020 20:38

My DS is 6.5 and has still got all his milk teeth but he is one of the last in his class to not have lost any. Most of his friends seemed to lose their first tooth at around 5. One of ds2's preschool friends lost her first tooth at 4.5 Shock. No idea about the puberty thing though.

Thirder · 23/09/2020 20:38

DS 6.9 and still no wobblers. I heard it depends on age getting first tooth. He was over 1 before he got a tooth, very late so maybe there's a link.

trilbydoll · 23/09/2020 20:39

DD was Y1 (so 5/6) and she was one of the last of her friends, she was so cross. My anecdata is it seemed linked to when they got teeth as babies, like the baby teeth had a shelf life or something Grin

Timeforanotherusername · 23/09/2020 20:40

Just before her 7th birthday.

LaTomatina · 23/09/2020 20:40

My eldest lost his first one before his 5th birthday. His brother is nearly 7 and hasn't lost any yet, most of his friends have lost a few. But he was a bit late teething too - definitely a lot later than his brother- I wonder if that is connected!

Hazelmazel · 23/09/2020 20:41

Mine were all nearly 8 before they lost any teeth! Dd was 13 for first period so broadly right.

Timeforanotherusername · 23/09/2020 20:41

Youngest is nearly 6 and no wobbly teeth.

littleblackno · 23/09/2020 20:43

DD was 9 when she lost her first baby tooth. She will be 13 in a few weeks time and has only lost 8 baby teeth in total (she should have lost all of them). Regular dental checkup and hes happy that all is ok just a bit slower.

I really hope the correlation with periods is wrong as shes been hormal for years and I cant cope with the uncertainty until shes 18!! ConfusedSad

ellentree · 23/09/2020 20:44

My eldest was just 5 too, my youngest is only just 5 but no wobblers yet. My nephew was 7.5.

KooKooKachu · 23/09/2020 20:44

My youngest lost 2 of his during lockdown. He was 4 years and 8 months old. Surprised me.

hopeforlucky3 · 23/09/2020 20:45

My 5yr old lost his first tooth last week as well.Smile

ellentree · 23/09/2020 20:45

Also, I was 15 when my periods started so I'd be surprised if my daughters are 10 but I'm sure it's possible.

altiara · 23/09/2020 20:45

Never heard of that link to periods starting! My DD didn’t start her periods until over 12.5 (year 8).

FastAndCurious · 23/09/2020 20:45

My daughter got her first wobbly tooth this week!

She turned 5 in May this year.

ToothFairyTime · 23/09/2020 21:17

Wow, sounds like the tooth fairy is going to be busy! So just 5 is on the early side of average, by the look of it.

I remember her growing it, it only seems like about 5 minutes ago!

DS lost his two front bottom teeth this spring when he was 7 in Feb. No more wobbly teeth either as yet and he was definitely very much on the late side among his friends. He was around 9 months old before he was teething and quite slow to get all his teeth.

Killpopp · 23/09/2020 21:28

Our elder twins are 7 and they haven’t got any wobbles yet. But both myself and my husband were late. I was 9 and my husband had a load of baby teeth removed at 15!

CoffeeAndDryShampoo · 23/09/2020 21:29

My DS is 5 next month and has lost two teeth already, although one was due to bumping his mouth jumping on the bed!

Flywheel · 23/09/2020 21:30

DD had just turned 5 also. She's 12 now and still no period, although probably not too far off

CaveMum · 23/09/2020 21:36

DD is 6.5 and has lost her first two teeth in the last 2 months. She’s also got 4 others wobbling at the moment 🙈

She has a few friends in her class who haven’t lost any yet and her first friend to lose a tooth was 5.5 went it happened, so plenty of variation.

TinkersTailor · 23/09/2020 21:36

DD lost her first a month before her 5th birthday. I was shocked too however she started teething really early, I just gathered it was normal!

TinkersTailor · 23/09/2020 21:38

Forgot to add, her adult tooth is over half way in now too.

It seems to have gone so fast.
