To ask when your D.C. lost their first tooth

DD has just surprised me with a missing tooth. She was only 5 last week! I was expecting it later this year or next, and she still feels very young Sad. What age did your DCs start to lose their teeth?

Is there any connection with early tooth loss and early puberty? (Someone said to me tonight that girls get their first period at double the age they lose their first tooth and that would only be 10, so now I’m a bit panicky that can’t be right, surely an old wives tale??)

Almost 7. Still losing baby teeth and waiting for his 12 year old molars at 14.

SardineJam · 23/09/2020 21:40

8, but by comparison with his classmates he was very late

Frazzled2207 · 23/09/2020 21:40

Nearly 7 and was the last in his class to start losing.
However 5 yo younger son has some wobblers.

ThatDamnScientist · 23/09/2020 21:45

Both of them were 5 and reception.

Message1q · 23/09/2020 21:47

6-and-a-half and was one of the last in class!

Kittywampus · 23/09/2020 21:51
  1. Was one of the last in her class to lose a tooth. She didn't have any teeth at all till she was one.
dontlikebeards · 23/09/2020 21:55

My dd lost her first tooth just after her 4th birthday, I don't think it has anything to do with puberty.

BestZebbie · 23/09/2020 22:03

DS knocked one out on a seesaw at 5 3/4 but is now reporting his first wobbly one a couple of weeks before turning 6.

MeMeMeYou · 23/09/2020 22:10

A month or two before turning 7 but this seems quite late

MeMeMeYou · 23/09/2020 22:12

DD was average age - year 1 - but lost the rest quickly and dentist said it was early to have all adult teeth. She is otherwise not particularly developed and that was a couple of years ago. Dentist didn’t think it was significant

clevername · 23/09/2020 22:15

My DD lost her first tooth (on Christmas eve, no less... Being the tooth fairy that night was scary business!) when she was 4 and 3 months. I really hope that period prediction isn't true for her - 8 would be far too young.

She's going to be 7 next week and she's lost 8 teeth in total now.

bakingcupcakes · 23/09/2020 22:16

DS was 5yrs 3 months and I thought that was really early! He's just turned 6 now and has lost 6 baby teeth. The adult ones are busy coming through filling the gaps.

blanchmange50 · 23/09/2020 22:17

around 5 or 6 but all my DC have extra baby teeth so you can imagine my surprise when another baby tooth grew in its place! Tooth fairy was busy in my house

Rosebel · 23/09/2020 22:17

Both were about 5 1/2 when they lost their first tooth and started periods at 10 and 11. So maybe some truth in the old wives tale but I doubt it.

girlsyearapart · 23/09/2020 22:20

Dd1 was in year 4 when she lost her first tooth and started her period in y6
Her sister lost teeth earlier and hasn’t started yet so it’s not true imo

pastaparadise · 23/09/2020 22:20

Ds is 6y 2m and no wobblers. But didn't get his first til 10 months and I heard there is definitely a correlation

GrasswillbeGreener · 23/09/2020 22:22

I think mine were probably nearly 7 before losing any, but they were both around 9-10 months before they got their first baby tooth and their teeth (molars etc) have been consistently later than average.

To counterbalance the query on a puberty link, both of them were relatively early to grow. (17 yr old daughter hasn't grown since hitting 12, 15 yr old son doesn't seem to have grown much since 12-13)

Bingobongo1 · 23/09/2020 22:38

Dt were in reception so 4/5.
Dc1 was 7 and the last of his friends to loose a tooth he was devastated when his friend who was younger than him lost a tooth before him.

inappropriateraspberry · 23/09/2020 22:42

I didn't lose my first until 9, so not expecting my DD to be anytime soon. At 5, her friends have lost 1 or even 2 already, and she's desperate for a visit from the tooth fairy!

Onefishtw · 23/09/2020 22:54

My DD lost her first tooth when she was 4 and a half! I was a bit surprised and now she’s 5 and a half she’s lost 4! She’s the only one in her class with no front teeth. I hadn’t heard the tooth/ period correlation but I hope it’s not true.

Smellybluecheese · 23/09/2020 23:06

Mine has just got her first two wobblers recently at nearly 6. She has got her 6 year old molars already though. They came through over the last few months so 5.5ish.

TheFrenchLieutenantsMonkey · 23/09/2020 23:08

DD1 lost her first tooth, naturally, at about 4.5. (Top two knocked out at 3 years old during a boisterous nursery PE session!) She started her periods at 12.5 so the double the age thing wasn't true for her.
DS lost his first tooth at 5, DD2 at 3.5! That one shocked me. She was gappy for ages!!

clipclop5 · 23/09/2020 23:50

DD lost hers at 6

Ploughingthrough · 23/09/2020 23:56

DD was 4.7. She is almost 8 now and I think shes going be quite early to puberty as its familial but I dont expect her period at 9. Maybe 10 or 11. Shes just lost her 10th baby tooth! DS lost his first at 4.10. He's 5 and a few months now and hasn't lost anymore.

WannabeGilmoreGirl · 23/09/2020 23:58

My dd were both 7. DD1 started her period at 10
