Hello Fresh

I have just started with them in the last month and every delivery has had missing items and mouldy veg. Is this the norm or have I been particularly unlucky with mine?
Annoying as I really like the meals.
Thanks

We used them for quite a while way way before lockdown and never had this problem (stopped last year for other reasons). But a friend said she had also tried them over the last 6 months and had a similar experience to you. She contacted them each time and thus kept being given money off. But a bit rubbish if a major ingredient is missing!!

FenellaVelour · 23/09/2020 19:00

I’ve had an issue once with Hello Fresh, but I use Gousto now as more choice, and haven’t had a single issue with them.

YellowShed · 23/09/2020 19:01

We have had a couple of issues with missing ingredients, but never any problem with freshness. I heard they have so many customers now they have had to outsource to other companies.

tillytoodles1 · 23/09/2020 19:02

I didn't like them, I love Gusto.

Arcadia · 23/09/2020 19:05

Mindful chef are amazing but expensive. If you are NHS 30% discount makes a real difference though.

FatherTedsBankAccount · 23/09/2020 19:05

I think you've been unlucky as I use them once or twice a month and I've never had mouldy or missing components. (I alternate HF with Mindful Chef which is better quality, but I get bored with their gluten-free, carb-free, dairy-free virtue and sometimes just want bread, potatoes or butter!!)

oreshina · 23/09/2020 19:06

Apparently the rotten to the core potato is due to the fact everything is organic 🤔
4 boxes in, at least 2 ingredients missing each time...gets boring having to phone them even if they are giving money off the next box.

Even 2 of the recipe cards missing this week. I know I can go online and find them but no the point. Sorry for the moan

rightmoo · 23/09/2020 19:07

yep, always something wrong! Just restarted again today and are missing a recipe card. My DH loves it though.

stepmotherofone · 23/09/2020 19:08

I seem to get limp disgusting carrots every week. I’ve given up complaining as aside from that it is really convenient for me.

BoomBoomsCousin · 23/09/2020 19:09

I used them a lot about 4 years ago and never had any problems except once they’d put in flat parsley instead of coriander. Veg was always really good and often lasted longer than the ones I got from the supermarket. So they have the capacity to do it well.

But if this isn’t a one off, I would be thinking about trying one of the competitors. They aren’t the only game in town.

oreshina · 23/09/2020 19:09

Maybe it's because we order 4 meals for 4 people? Perhaps things get confusing...

I'm thinking if moving to Gousto as have also had quite a number of missing ingredients. .Normally the freshness is great but last time my sweet potatos were going brown.

I complain every time but wonder if they're starting to think Im making it up

Its a shame because the meals are lovely

SummerHouse · 23/09/2020 19:10

You could tweet it with #hellofresh #goodbyemouldy

CorianderLord · 23/09/2020 19:13

Unlucky. I haven't had a single missing or bad veg and we've had around 15.

CorianderLord · 23/09/2020 19:14

We get 4 meals for 3 people

Nottherealslimshady · 23/09/2020 19:16

I've used them for a while. They've really gone downhill. Last time I got the wrong ingredients for one meal and mouldy food in the other meal pack.

whitewineandmagnums · 23/09/2020 19:19

There was some coverage in local press over lockdown over their questionable hygiene and social distancing measures at their factory. Bleurgh.

tywysoges · 23/09/2020 19:20

We never had an issue but switched to Gousto because of the bigger amount of choice. DSIL gets Hello Fresh though and was here when we got a Gousto box, she said ours looked much fresher than theirs so maybe they have gone downhill.

Rememberallball · 23/09/2020 19:23

We had this with HF - and meat that was going rancid when it was still in date. We switched to Gusto and they were much better - bigger choice of meals and portions were huge in comparison not to mention they were cheaper. In the end we stopped using meal boxes only because our circumstances changed and it meant they weren’t the right thing for us!!

stepmotherofone · 23/09/2020 19:25

I do alternate with Gousto and have to admit the quality of theirs seems a little nicer. Sometimes you can’t tell with veg though - had a totally rotten onion in the Gousto box this week.

NastyBlouse · 23/09/2020 19:25

Gousto here for several years. Almost never had a missing ingredient. Usually a reasonable selection, although it’s become less adventurous and varied over the last few months.

BUT.

They’ve recently changed a lot of their packaging and the wording on the produce is now a bit cagey. The chicken they sent used to be organic and free range, now it seems to be neither of those things (because if it was it would say on the packaging; instead they say stuff like ‘trusted farms’ which means nothing). I’m winding up with them because of it.

Newnamenewopenme · 23/09/2020 19:37

I’ve only had an issue once, I sent a picture on Facebook messenger and got money added to my account. I would take pictures each time as a back up! I’ve recently swapped to gousto for a bit of variety but will go back to hello fresh

WitchQueenofDarkness · 23/09/2020 19:42

I wouldn't use them as they use the door to door sales technique.

Apparently my very comprehensive "no cold callers" notice doesn't apply to them

Nyclair · 23/09/2020 19:44

I've had a few issues over the last couple of months. I let them know and they give me a credit.
